In no particular order (except the last one, which is, IMO, the greatest of them all)
The Rock - Hummvee crunches a Bug, trolley smashes a yellow Ferrari, great stuff
Ronin - tunnels, against traffic, Robert DeNiro.. very cool
Bourne Identity - The Mini in action (don't know how Italian Job compares, haven't seen it)
French Connection - one of the all-time greats, set a standard
Die Another Day - Bond car vs. imitation Bond car. Excellent 007 action.
And the greatest of all time. This car chase defined what a car chase should be. Run at full speed (no speed up of the film a la Gone in 60 seconds) and driven by the actors. Every car chase (and those taking place in San Francisco in particular) were based upon this one. The cars involved: 68 Fastback Mustang and 68 Dodge Charger. The over the top cool factor: Steve McQueen. The movie: Bullit
-
Bullet. Set the standard and still the best.
Ronin was good as well. I think they used french Indy car drivers or something.
-
Bullet
The Itallian Job (the original)
Blues Brothers
-
Bullit-well, it's bullit.
Vanishing Point- loves it.
Ronin-great job on the chases, I felt there in the car. Looks simple, nothing"extraordinary"
Gone in 60 seconds-the homade original one, made by amateurs, has a cheesy taste to it, but still makes u want to buirn rubber.

latest version of italian job... car chases... bah suck...
original italian job!! definitely in the top 5

Bullitt - It had Steve McQueen, a hot Mustang and a Charger. I wonder how much sales on those cars rose after the film's release? (altho in real life the 'stang would have zero chance against the charger)
Blues Brothers - Most ingenious chase scenes ever caught on film.
Any Bond Film - Because it's James Bond and he has cool cars, with the exception of the Timothy Dalton episodes.
-
Tron>T2>T3
-
We saw the car chase in Bullit during the driveing part of the Police Academy
-
Ronin - very 'real.' I felt that the sounds were accurate - no ridiculous stunts like jumping over ::cough:: bridges.
-
Blues Brothers all the way.
-
Has to be Bullitt for me... tape recorded Mancini's score of it...
Outstanding Sound FX too..still can hear those double-clutches..
-
Bullit for shure !! Then the Road warrior , and Mad Max !!
I'd better Add..
Smoky and the bandit 1
cannonball run
most of the james bond movies.
Its a mad mad mad mad mad world. (just because its funny as all hell)
Speed ...(nothing like jumping a bus)
Death race 2000 (Splat splat splat )
Lethal weapon 2 ( the station wagon )
Days of thunder .(only the rental car scene)
two lane blacktop. ( the GTO and the 55 Chev<-same one from american graffiti)
Gone in 60 Seconds (1974)
Thunder Road (1950 i think w Robert Mitchum as a bootlegger)
The Gumball Rally
The Love Bug (herbie rules )

Does anyone remember a B & W movie made back in the 60's, that had a 1958-60 Corvette with punks terrorizing a family in a station wagon on vacation? It's nagging me now, cause I can't remember the title of the movie.
The punks we're following the family around, after they stopped at a motel for the night, and the teenage daughter had gone next door to a bar or hangout. The father finally ended up in a game of chicken with the Vette, and ran it off the road as a last resort, flipping it upside down.
Wasn't all that great a movie, as car chases go. But the Vette was pretty cool because it hauled.

What was the pre-Jaws Speilberg movie where a tanker truck chased Dennis Weaver all over the desert?
Not Bullit, but a decent chase.
>just remembered. 'Duel'
-
The Audi S6 (?) in Ronin sounded amazing. Great chase scenes.
Bullet takes the prize though
What was the pre-Jaws Speilberg movie where a tanker truck chased Dennis Weaver all over the desert?
Duel - that film scared me witless as a kid. It's like the truck becomes monster and has a will of its own - more so because it is anachronistic, being quite an old truck.
-
I'm surpirsed no one mentioned Vanishing Point. You guys haven't seen it yet, or you just think it's not worth mentioning?
MAybe it's only a car movie, not a car chase movie to some of you.
-
omg..u guys make me sick......
ROAD WARRIOR!!!!

Bulit. . . . . Best one ever!
Road warrior

With regard to "The French Connection" chase... I don't get it. What's the appeal with this car chase? It came after the first Bond car chases, and after Bullit, and it really did nothing for me. It was mostly empty street straight line business. What am I missing here?

"To live and die in L.A." had a pretty good chase.

I was sure you were wrong and TFC was older than Bullitt.... but I was wrong.
The French Connection - 1971
Bullitt - 1968

Also might have set a record for least amount of dialog in a movie.

Not "technically" a movie..
