if a P-38l is that using flaps in the turn?.

back in AW ( ea.com ) days we did use flaps to pull her over the top of the loop.

A6M5b.

It can turn better than anything mentioned above (ignore Ack-Ack, he's special) and has usable guns, unlike the A6M2.

Flaps and rudder will help in turn/stall fighting but there are some planes you shouldn't turn fight with in the P-38L.  Not many, just a couple or so.

Spit V or Seafire. Hurris and Zekes are good too, but they're pitiful in speed.

Spit9's the best overall turnfighter in my opinion. Spit5's a little quicker in the turns, but the speed and climb of the 9 make it a bit more versatile. Plus, if flown right, the survivability is much higher. 38's a fun turnfighter, but if you come across a spit worth his salt your life expectancy isn't terribly long. You have to rely on his mistakes to win.

This is odd, i have a spit book that says at low alts the SpitV actually had a high climb rate than the Spit IX. But AH plane info says it doesn't.
Which is which?

0-5K Spit V climbrate sucks ... after that it does just fine.

If a Spit V is flown right, it will out turn Zekes. It is a better pure turnfighter than the IX. Spit V handling at slow speeds is incredible ... the only problem is that once slow, you WILL NOT out accelerate anybody. This plane forces you to fight, its real good in a fight ... its now my favorite ride.

Spit V or FM2.

I don't know. When I think turn fight, I think FM2.

I don't have any experience in the Spit V, but I can turn inside the Zeke and never have trouble out turning the spits as well.

Of course, as with anything, it really depends on who's flying the Spit or Zeke.

Yes.  And the first flap button I reach for is the dive flaps, then the regular flaps based on speed and turn.  And burn the Left Auxillary tank first.

The Spit IX was introduced in July 1942. At about the same time, the Spit V engine limits were uprated, allowing it to develop more power.

With that power increase (16lbs instead of 12lbs boost) the Spit V and Spit IX had almost identical climb rates below 10,000ft.

In late 42/early 43 the Spitfire IX recieved an uprated engine, the Merlin 66, which gave it an extra 1000 ft/min climb rate. At about the same time, some Spit Vs recieved a special low altitude only engine, which gave it a similar boost in climb rate, but only up to around 5,000ft.

In short, the only Spit V to really outclimb the Spit IX would be a special low alt Spit V against an early Spit IX.

You can see the performance of various Spits, and how they increased over time, at

I think the N1K1 was in AW but not too sure since I rarely stepped into the Big Pork arena.

I love the Seafire for turning. I get more proximity kills in it than anything. :)

The Spit 5 and seafair for low alt work (15k down )  the spit 9 for higher alts . learn the angles ,and when to work the throttle with them .
I'd have to say Look up Levithan for he is the" Master in a spit ."

I can't believe that no one has mentioned the P40 for turnfighting!  Now thats a furballer's plane! It can out-turn, out climb, out-run and out fly any WWI plane ever built.

oh and

Leviathn is the best gay turnfighter in the game.
