What sims are we going to fly?

I can line up a P-38 Ace to speak if you are interested. Provided he is not busy that weekend.

He is Col. Herb Ross and was based in the Mediterranean Theatre.

He is a very entertaining speaker and has some fabulous stories.

He lives here is Stockton where I work at the airport and I see him just about every day.

Update to the Update:  http://www.raf303.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1076

New pricing coming out shortly.  First hotel did a bait and switch and we are going with a different and nicer hotel.  Guest rooms are going to go up in price.  But Con Fee is going to go down in price, and there will be some alternate packages for people who don't want to do all the activities or attend all the days.  I apologize that this is taking so long, but trust me we are making progress.

Though I sent an e-mail requesting alternate payment methods, I ended up having my wife utilize her Paypal account and I'm now registered.

Why does it ask about how many nights?  It didn't ask which nights and I still have to call the hotel to make reservations and the payment, right?
Title: West Coast Mini-Con
Post by: funkedup on August 09, 2003, 02:41:36 PM
Thanks for registering.  :)

Yeah the hotel question on the registration form was just for our information.
The hotel is going to send me the codes for room reservations on Tues or Wed next week, and I will email all registrants at that time with information on how to make the reservations.

I updated the banquet info so people know what they are getting for their money.
Title: West Coast Mini-Con
Post by: funkedup on August 12, 2003, 07:44:57 PM
I apologize if this sounds whiny. I'm not upset, just worried.
When the idea of a Mini-Con first came up, we had about 40 people respond by various means that they were interested.
Since then Mietla and Ramzey and I have spent a lot of time to make the Mini-Con a reality.
Unfortunately, since we started taking registrations, only a small percentage of those people have actually put their money where their mouth is by registering for the event.
We have two deadlines in our contract with the hotel. The first of these is August 18, and the second is September 5. There is no penalty for us to cancel the Mini-Con before August 18. There is a substantial penalty to cancel between August 18 and September 5. After September 5, the penalties are so high that we can't consider cancellation.
In order to avoid unacceptable financial risks, we need to see a lot more registrations before August 18, or we are going to have to consider cancelling the event and refunding registration fees to those who have registered.
So please, if you are planning to register, or are on the fence about registering, do so as soon as possible. If you wait too long, there may not be a Mini-Con.

No MT, before we've decided to raise the price (instead of eating the difference ourselves), we have made sure that no one has ordered this option yet. In no way we wanted different people to pay different price for the same product.

We are not in it for the money, but we are not in it to lose any either. If we have any surplus, it WILL be spend on a Con (in a form of extra booz for example) :)

Thank you everybody for your support. It's going to be a hoot and a half.

See you there.

Easy Meitla... I am glad to pay it.

In fact the different plans you guys layed out were perfect for me. I can't take time off work that week, so I gotta blitz up there on Saturday only. I was very happy to see an option that saved me a few bucks over the full 3 day price.

Off to Paypal.

yep.. paypal.. set up an account long ago.  Couldn't recall the password.. they emailed it to me at my old defunct email address..  couldn't change email address without a password.   couldn't use bank or card info on a new account since the "other" guy (who forgot his password and won't reply to his email) has the same account info.

MT if you can't get PayPal to work, just send a personal check to the address on the Contact page of the website:  http://www.northoltwing.com/minicon
Make it out to Mike Waltz.
I like PayPal because it's fast (normally), but personal checks are OK as long as I get them a month or so before the Mini-Con.

Post by: beet1e on August 19, 2003, 11:52:47 AM
Well guess what. I might be visiting my Californian pistol packing friend in Santa Barbara in October, and as that's not more than about 200 miles from San José...  if Lazs is going to the con, it would save me traipsing all the way to Dixon afterwards, or wherever he has his whinery. But someone had better tell GTOra2. I'm on his ignore list, and if he hears that I might be there he'll want to change his mind about coming himself - or else bring a machine gun to shoot me. I'd better check with AmEx to see if my travel insurance covers me for hanging out with you guys.

Tell me, are we all going to bury the hatchet? Seems that this BBS brings out the worst in all of us. Never had this worry at any of the other flightsim cons I've been to.
Title: West Coast Mini-Con
Post by: funkedup on August 19, 2003, 12:22:04 PM
Al you shouldn't have that worry now.  The only shooting will be paper targets of bin Laden if we can find a range near the hotel.  :)

I hope you can make it.

Seriously Beetle, there will be no violence or bad blood at the Mini-Con.  If anybody gets out of line, SOB and I will sit on them.  I've only heard of one incident of that type, and it had nothing to do with BBS grudges, just alcohol and stupidity.

Well, the sooner you register, the better we can accomodate everybody.  Also, we hope to end up with some extra money beyond our basic expenses, and the more lead time we have, the better we can spend this money on goodies for everybody - pizza, kegs of beer, exotic dancers, etc.  :D

You can get the basic package as late as the first day of the Con (10/16) but there would be no guarantee of space for your computer in the Con Room.  We would bust bellybutton to accomodate you though.

The last possible date to register for the full package is October 9.  That's the cutoff for getting a seat at the banquet and an airshow ticket at the group rate.  However you could get an airshow ticket at the gate, but you'd have to pay full price.

To get the special group rate for the hotel room you would need to register by September 25.

Post by: beet1e on August 19, 2003, 05:58:10 PM
  • Will any HTC staff be attending this con?
  • Will the con be attended by anyone sporting a "mullet"?
  • What does Lazs think of "mullets"?
  • Do any HTC staff have mullets, and if not, is it because skuzzy won't allow it?

:D

I'd love to see Mr. Toad with a mullet - LOL.

Post by: funkedup on August 19, 2003, 06:07:35 PM
I invited Hitech and his staff.  It's a pretty long haul from TX to CA, and I know they are working hard on AH2 so I would be surprised if they can make it.  I'm pretty sure HTC is a Mullet-Free Workplace.
Title: West Coast Mini-Con
Post by: beet1e on August 21, 2003, 04:26:05 AM
October is in Q4. AH2 is promised for Q3, so let's hope they do make it.

I might well be able to come. I need to cut down my alcohol consumption, and being surrounded by American beer will help me achieve that - whether or not I actually drink it - LOL. :D

Funked, before I can say one way or the other, I have a set of variables at home to consider, and might need to make special arrangements. I'll email you privately about this.

Speaking from experience, I don't think you have anything to worry about. I've said worse things to lazs via a forum (in the distant, stupid, WB 'past') than you will ever say and if the '2% winner' actually comes in and I can be in town for a day I'm looking forward to meeting the guy in person. I've been to 2 WB conventions and I never saw any - *any* - ill will amongst the actual convention attendees. I've never even seen 'neutral' behavior - the default is that when you see someone 'in person' the first time, you buy them a drink. Or 3 drinks if it's 'peril' from Australia from WB (By the way, anyone know what ever happened to that guy? Great guy - police officer in Australia...if anyone knows anything let me know if you can).

But do be prepared for some type of violence for certain. Some examples:

1. I've seen a bunch of 'live roleplayers' almost kill 'drex' because he was grossly inaccurate in roleplaying how a 7' tall vampire would mate with a sheep.

2. I've seen 'mvp1' (Miguel, former WB 'JG 14' guy) almost go over the bar at a bartender because the bartender wouldn't give him any more JM (that's justifiable violence, but still violence).

3. Members of the WB 4th F.G. always slash or icepick the tires of every German sports car at any con they attend (I guess they're thinking "If you can't take 'em in WB, take 'em anywhere you can")(This is a joke, any new 4th F.G. member don't start loading guns in preparation for a 2% chance of atomizing me at FunkedUps 'suare').

You'll have a great time if you go. The first WB convention I went to I was a little concerned. On the flight there I kept thinking "I'm going to be surrounded by geeks". Then I got there and "No worries, everyone is fairly 'normal' looking". I haven't yet figured out if this means I'm a geek or not. Considering the # of times I saw a PS2 with a bunch of M4s or G36s in close proximity during the past couple of years I'm beginning to think that everyone is a geek when no one is looking. :)

Lazs's cats' first meal after Lazs gets home from the con: http://www.starvinmarvinsseafoods.com/Grey-mullet.htm

You guys driving to the con - some of you will have long drives. Why not fly? Or would that mean you wouldn't be able to bring your guns? :D

Looking good here. My house move will be complete Sept 26th, so that's one variable solved. Will try to arrange my visit to my friend the Californian pistol packer (CPP) at Santa Barbara either side of the con. Planning to stop off in NYC for a few days and might hook up with Muckmaw to slag off the BKs and the 13th TAS - lol - just kidding! ;) - about the slagging off, not about NYC.  Can girls come to the con? Funny you talk about mullet. Because I would love to attend the mini-con but, it's the same weekend as out Mullet Festival.
http://www.mulletfestival.com/

Keep in mind the 1st Annual World War Two Gamers Convention. It started out as the annual Warbirds players CON. But since the game company no longer sponsors the convention, players have decided we need to make it an event for all WWII gamers.

This is not just a “sit-around-the-bar” event, bring your computer, play your favorite games online with others in the same room. Enjoy meeting others you only know by their callsign. They’ll be a tour of the Air Force Armament Museum, Special Operations Airpark, an AC-130 Gunship, and hear our guest speaker, a Doolittle Tokyo Raider, from WWII.

Also there are penalties in our contract with the hotel if we don't use the minimum amount of rooms, which will hurt Mietla and me.
