Title: Dramatic footage of 1.041 FM problem
Post by: Dinger on September 17, 2000, 01:47:00 PM
For those of you still not convinced.
I turned on the recorder 5 minutes after losing the whole left wing at 500 AGL to mordep's (or was is PEDROM?) yak.

Had also funny encounter, shot half wing on F4U and left him alone.

Suddenly I heard pings, same F4 turned into me and attacke me , With half Wing.

Thankfully hmble cleared my 6  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif).

Will look for opportunity to post tomorrow.

This isn't really 1.04 specific.  I had a 7 kill sortie in an F4u at an enemy base.  I lost half a wing midway through the encounter.  I got 3 planes after that.. before I managed to egress and land.

Of course.. the 3 kills were nice enough to fly straight me (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

What you see is I think that the full models for damaged wings aren't all done yet, so a wingtip lose looks same as full or 3/4 wing lose.

Yup Dinger,
this evenin I lost half a wing of my F4U and did a nice 3 minutes flying and landing pattern. Yes, I crashed but ... HTC can you fix the whole thing? This FM really makes me worry.

The short version:
This isn't a "Half-winged" bird, this plane is missing the entire left wing.  Previous versions of AH had Macchis in 1/2 wing and full wing missing options.

Perhaps, but it is specific to 1.04 and I'll explain why:
In previous versions, you could lose half a Macchi wing, as well as the whole thing.  When you lost half, it took all the work in the world to wrestle that guy down.  When the whole thing went, goodbye!

Now, it may be that with 1.04 they've removed the "half wing" graphics and what I'm seeing is the result.
But look closely: when I hold the plane wing level, I lose alt at a dangerous rate; when I go knife edge, I'm able to climb.  I was hit at 500 feet.  At one point I got it to 8k.

Hmmm... Just wondering if we could have "dump the other wing" button somewhere - apparently planes can fly straight and even climb on a knife edge. When on gets a wing shot off you may end up spinning or smth. With the other wing dumped all you have to do is to roll on a side and fly away (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif).

Damn, wish I'd known this the other night  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif). I lost a wing, but the plane flew fine as long as I didn't pull more than about 1.5 G, when it'd roll into the "lost" wing. On landing I had to pull up, which resulted in a crash, but I guess I could just have landed sideways and had no problem  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif).
