I read a little blurb about junk bonds a few days ago so I decided to check them out. Interest rate on some of these bonds are pretty high. Delta Airlines is paying 11% for 3 years.
Are junk bonds worth the risk or do most of them end up not returning any money?

In a word No they are not worth the risk.
If you really want to invest in them try a fund like that High Yield Bond Fund (symbol HYB.TO) on the Toronto Stock Exchange. It pays about 10% and is heavily diversified so if some of the bonds default you have not lost your whole investment.
