Has anyone ever tried this? I heard of it growing up in Arkansas but never was around the activity. I have seen several outdoor programs recently about noodling. It looks fun but a little scary as well.
For any wiseguys, this is not to be confused with playing with yours or your buddies noodle.
I am preparing for cold weather at the moment as I leave for Santiago, Chile this evening. I thought about reading about noodling on my way.

Sort of like Hogging, Tickling or Dogging?

Its illegal in TX rogwar. There was a show about it on PBS last nite in the Dallas area. They had a bunch of Oklahoma rednecks on it waist deep in water in the river pulling giant catfish outta their sleeping holes with their bare hands. Crazy stuff.

I watched some of that last night which is what made me think of noodling this morning.

Cool! I'll be on the lookout. I am just going for the weekend more or less. In August I have a 3 week Chile and Brazil trip. The varying climates make it difficult to pack. I've flown 87K miles this year on AA!

There is an effort to get a National noodling tournaments going similiar to that of Bass tournaments.

They mentioned that on the show last nite Rip. If I recall correctly, its only legal in like 4 states though....OK, LA, TN and one other one. Not much of a national tour.

Several childhood buddies of mine noodle. I never had the guts. They sometimes get suprises like snakes or bitten by the big fish.

Back home in South Texas we used to run throw lines and trot lines in a local river near my house. There is no way in hell I would stick my arm into the mouth of some of the fish we used to catch in there...at least not if I was in the water with them. A friend and I once caught 2 big yellow cats on the same line....one weighed in at 48 pounds and the other at 52 pounds. Their mouths were as wide as my size 13 foot.

Southern okie here.. Saw a guy noodling in a lale/watershed/pond, got a 64 POUND BLUE with his FOOT! The lil teeth stripped his foot of a bunch of it's skin.. eww..
BTW, that same pong has thousands of panfish in it.. took a little rowboat to the middle and dropped a lure in.. couldnt get more than 2-3 feet under before it was snagged by a fish.. eventually stopped casting adn just plunked it over the edge.. caught 30+ of those little suckers.. or it coulda been the same, really stupid one.
