had my first one this morning - woke me up about 5am
got to enjoy it until about 8:30 - when it finally passed
if one female nurse said "now you know what we go through to have a baby" - ten said it.
everytime I turned around, one was telling me that crap.
the good news is they said if you have one, more than likely you'll have more -- can't wait.

I feel your pain. I've had 2. 10 years apart almost to the day. Getting close to the next one...cripes.
-
Thanks to military spending on research and development, it is now an outpatient procedure.

Yea, well I'll tell ya women who have had children and a kidney stone tell me they'd rather have a kid anyday. I've had two myself and now I walk around with a bottle of water everyday.
Last time I had a stone got a cystoscopy procedure 3 times within a week. Man that sux.

Military? Can you expand on this?
-
Just be glad it only hit you for a few hours then passed. I had one that took 48 hours to make its way to freedom. Damn narcotics did NOTHING to help that pain.

I spend 5 days in the hospital with one, lol, doped up on morpine and coden, then the pain was gone and a BB sized thingy was in my Pee strainer... that was about 8 years ago and I have not had one since... BUT MY GOD... the pain was terible.

The procedure used to break up stones was first developed by the military. It once required surgery and an overnight stay.

Did the military develop this procedure as a result of developing some unrelated technology, or were they purposely trying? What is the procedure?

The name of the procedure I got a few years ago was 'lithotripsy' if memory serves. I got a spinal, then I was submerged in a stainless steel hot tub, and then shocked the stone to grains with focused sound waves. Probably some sort of sonar offshoot.
Peed in a strainer for a few days to weigh the debris, no overnite in the hospital, but I stayed in the hotel across from the hospital so I could go in to get checked the next morning.

Dunno, saw it on discovery, they didn't get into specifics. I can only guess it might be used as a weapon to extract someone out of a bunker. If they can aim it on a stone, a shot to someone's brain in that bunker might persuade them to come out. Or just kill them. They didn't say what the military used it for though, I can just guess.

cc, was just curious. McGroin, define "got a spinal".
-
They inject a drug into your spine and all goes numb from there down.
-
Ug. Sorry I asked. No more medical talk, I am getting queezy.

I guess Kidney stone are Renal Calculi ?
If so the Nurse lied :) according to my wife it easier to give birth (2 time in her case) than supporting a "kidnay stone"
-
Oh yeah ya have a 50% chance of another kidney stone within the next 5 years
Cheers Eagler ;)

I just spent a 26 days of hell with stones first two passed without to much trouble but the third one was true hell!!
She got stuck halfway down to my bladder I was in hospital for 3 days. dumb bellybutton doctor whent looking for it. By the way this is done by going up your noodle (Can you say OUCH) Well the A-hole didnt see it so he put a stent in going from my left kidney to the bladder (Stent = long bellybutton tube) for 10 days of pure hell plus the meds had me puking 24/7 plus the frist time they had to foley me Dam that hurts. Oh that stent just pushed the stone right back up into the kidney DOH. they didnt use to tank on me :(
they traped the stone in a basket and lasered it 478 times
inside my kidney all this is done thru your package if you know what i mean . OUCH OUCH OUCH !!!
