if I install a new MB for my computer, do I have to reinstall windows?
thanks in advance....

Nope. I dropped an old hard drive with all my junk (and Winblows) on it in a new system last year. It asked for drivers up the whazoo, had to restart like ten times, and it did scream for the Windoze disc, but I didn't need to reinstall. It ran fine between then (may '02) and about three weeks ago; but that was my fault. A bad IDE cable caused me to reinstall Winblows four times before I caught the little bastage. If I hadn't done that it prolly would've run for another couple months without any hiccups.

Generally speaking, yes. You can try and not do a re-install, but if the motherboard is sufficiently different from the previous one, you probably will end up with a lot of problems.
If the motherboard is the same chipset as the previous motherboard, then you may get away with an update of the INF files.

it worked!!! Took all night! the dang MB i have has a built in LAN port. So it gave me problems with my NIC card (just figured that out!) now I'm back online after a week :D
I did have to reinstall every device in my device manager though :) different chipset on the new MB....

no you do not have too.....
you just have to know in advance 'WHAT' is on the MB....
I just changed 2 of em....
didn't change any harddrives.....so no need too re-install any OS
ya should've known in advance that you had an integrated NIC....
oh ya....check too see if your NEW MB has dual RAM support(channel).....newer boards have this.

you haven't known me very long have you? :D seriously though I did know, but RR tech support told me last night that service was down for an upgrade so I quit working on it. I had it fixed within 10 minutes of being up this morning, NOTHING WILL STAND IN THE WAY OF ME AND MY INTERNET ADDICTION!!!!!!

Well I got a question now, I just bought new motherboard and I get no post messages, the monitor gets no signal at all. I do get an indicator led on the harddrive but that is all.

That's what started this whole mess for me. My solution was to go buy this new MB. The old one was 2 years old, the longest I've ever had one. I'm off to go get a stick of ddr ram now.

Found my problem the motherboard was grounding on one of the mounting pegs. put tape between it and the motherboard and it fired up. Thanks all
