"At least one Cold War-era MiG-25 interceptor was found when searchers saw the tops of its twin tail fins poking up from the sands, said one Pentagon (news - web sites) official familiar with the hunt. He said search teams have found several MiG-25s and Su-25 ground attack jets buried at al-Taqqadum air field west of Baghdad."

" Australian troops, who on April 16 captured the Al Asad Airfield, 112 miles northwest of Baghdad, found scores of fighter aircraft, mostly Soviet-era MiGs but also three advanced MiG-25 Foxbats, the fastest combat aircraft today. Helicopters, radar systems and millions of pounds of explosives also were found."

Be patient, all will be reviled soon. Much to the dismay of the 9 dwarfs running for President.

These were obviously a threat to the security of the United States. We have our smoking gun... nothing more to see in Iraq... move along.

Gee am surprised those pesky Iraqi's didn't just uncover those jets, give them a light once over with a dust buster and get them in the air!!! I mean they must be in really good condition after a couple of months being covered by sand.

Am surprised that all air forces don't cover their a/c with desert sand to keep them in tip top condition when they aren't being used!!

Librul media!  "Interceptors?"  "Ground attack jets?"  My ass!  These are high-tech, multiple use, jet propelled, arial WMD delivery vehicles that clearly violate the UN charter, the Treaty of Versailles, and the Ten Commandments.  Saddam clearly has much to hide.

As has been said before, who cares?  Sadaam is out of power, and that is good.  Anything else is gravy.

will they be offered for sale? if the Russians can make money flying Mig25s to 100,000 feet with tourists in them , why couldn't a private organization?

Rep. Porter Goss, chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, said the discovery pointed to how far Iraqi forces went to conceal their activities. The Florida Republican was briefed on the discovery during his recent trip to Iraq

Well that’s it then.. those dang eye-rack-eyes went to great lengths to conceal their activities! Why, if they left those planes above ground, we could’ve bombed them better.

According to SOB, “who cares”... yeah, who cares about the leader of the free world losing all credibility. ... who cares about the 3 billion a month. who cares about the one or two soldiers that get whacked everyday on this fools errand. Who cares that we lost almost all our allies.

The “gravy” SOB’s talking about might even be in jeopardy.. Rebels poking holes in pipelines every day.. only way to steal the “gravy” is by truck.

10bears is sooo negative.

i have bad news for 10bears , north korea has backed down and  agreed to meet with USA, china, russia, japan , south korea.

i need a breakdown on the "4 billion" a month, does that include the normal costs (troop pay, food , supplies, repaires, etc) for 150,000 troops and equipmant, or is that the added costs for deployment in iraq?

Two dunes north and 5 dunes west from the western most MiG-25 are where the WMD are.  Saddam's buried motorhome is in the dune next to the WMD.  He is there watching porn and drinking Hienikins with OBL.  lol.

A Mig 25 shot down an F-18 in the first gulf war, and since it's faster then any other fighter in service, it booked out of there at like mach 2.5 or mach 3.

It's also thought of as the 'poor mans SR-71' because it has been used for high speed reconaissance runs over Isreal (clocked at over Mach 3).  The story I heard is that the engines need to be replaced afterwards, but it's still cheaper then having a dedicated fleet of high speed recon planes.

Oh, one other thing, despite being to fast, it probably would not have been a super weapon against the US.  It's a cool plane, but the US radar/surveillance technology is so dang advanced and comprehensive (full time AWACs in battle, advanced long range detection, etc) that this time around it would be difficult to get in range.

Actually, love muffin, the point was that we ousted a murderous dictator and his derranged sons.  That was a good thing, IMO, and I don't give two flying f*cks about the reason we went in there in the first place.  It is costing us in US lives and US money which is terrible, but I believe in the cause...liberating the people of Iraq.  You can babble all day long about oil, but you said it, not me.

According to a website I just found with google, yeah.  That's pretty interesting, I wonder if that statement is still true.  Modern ECM is pretty powerful, I hear.

I think this is the R-40 version that shot down F/A-18...

R-40RD or the R-40RD

The new missile R-40D and its R-40D1 update ("dorabotanaya" [more elaborate]) were produced in two variants R-40RD and R-40TD, both featuring improved countermeasures resistance and a more sensitive homing head to improve performance against low-flying targets.

I bet the pilot in that MiG-25 is not an Iraqi, its a "HONCHO" (a russian pilot)

MiG-25/31 never carry "Alamo"

a typical loadout for MiG-25

*R-40 Acrid
*R-23/24 Apex
*R-60 Aphid

a typical loadout for MiG-31

*R-33 Amos
*R-73 Archer
*two R-40 missiles
*Four R-60 missiles

"honcho' was what the american pilots in korean war called the russian pilots who flew chinese MIG15's in secret, the russians were the only good pilots the commies had.
