Title: Must be nice.
Post by: Nash on August 04, 2003, 09:34:25 AM
President Bush began a month long vacation today. Is that typical of Presidents? Or is it understandable that he take this much time off due to the pressures he's had to personally endure lately... what with the war that's going on right now and everything?

(How's this for a post to kick the week off to a suitably contentious start? :D )

What does that mean... He brings his laptop and a cell phone? Explain that to the guys stuck half way around the world duckin' grenades.

Sorry Nash, the guy has a point - fundraising can be pretty exhausting work!

Yeah it was a good read. The only thing it had to do with this post was the part where it says that this is one of the longest vacations a President has taken in history. But other than that... sure... ;)

Presidential Vacations dont mean squat, to be honest....Clinton had Air Force one all over the planet and still managed to stay in the loop to get things done, as have all the other Presidents.

I'm more concerned about the local stuff...knowing the state senate and congress are on break when there are things that need to be done.

Happy to oblige, Eagler. :)

One of the companies that my dad was CEO at hit a patch of rough times. Pay freezes, layoffs, the whole thing.

The parking spaces for the guys in upper management were right outside the front entrance to the building. Most of the guys were pretty conservative, and their cars reflected that. But the VIP of sales (go figure) owned some insane car (can't remember what exactly... a Cobra or a new Vet....). My dad told him that if he owned another car - drive that here instead. If he didn't, then go out and find another one... 'cause he aint gonna be parking that thing out front during all this.

economy is up

from what?  can you post a link?  the best news I've heard on the economy was the report last week that it wasn't sucking as bad as expected (and that was reported with the disclaimer that it was early results,  may not be acurate, and was pretty much to early to call)

btw- didn't GW take a month his first summer in also?  I'ts been awhile since I did the whole "working for one employer' thing, but if I remember right they expected us to be on the job at least a year before we took any long term vacations.  is that how it works for the rest of you too?

if I remeber corectly he took his first month off after 6 or 7 months on the job.  by those standards wouldn't the boys in Iraq be a bit overdue for a month or 2 of paid leave.

I'm in the IT Department for a nationwide plumbing company primarily doing new home construction.  Starts are up, we are hiring, they are building and buying new homes so fast it would make your head spin, there's more work than we can keep up with, we all got raises (above COL), I do side work and people have money to hire and pay me, and I have an $800 tax refund check sitting on my desk at home.

Don't know what economy your looking at but the sandbox I play in looks really good right now.

Man, Nash, what a hard-ass.

Of course, in our company, we took away the parking spaces....and, what a concept, the sales guy got canned when he didn't bring in the sales.
