Title: please change ai flak barrage in ah2
Post by: Citabria on August 04, 2003, 02:30:36 PM
its annoying and adds nothing to the game but aggrivation.

the old style 88mm flak puffs were quite grand as they actually had shells travel from the 88mm gun to the airplane and the airplane could change course.

this stuff we have now is lazer tag cheesy poof nonsense

a tactic of REAL ww2 fighters was to change course to avoid flak this dosnt work with our always on target yet ussually missing black cloud

The flak guns at ports and large bases shouldn't be as accurate as the flak guns on the CV because they're just 88mm guns and should be firing non-proximity fused ammunition since the Germans never successfully developed them.  CV acks are fine the way they are.

At least change the AI guns so they have to traverse at the same speeds as any other gun. I absolutely HATE the way they can instantly swing 180 degrees.

Yup.  Please say the psychic pre-tracking flak is getting an overhaul...

More flak, less accuracy = greater realism.

IMHO, of course.

(oh, and lets see those shellbursts glow at night, eh? :-) )

I would be happy if my plane got shook by close hits.
So far I have never been killed by the black puffs and actually assumed they never did anything until I read this thread.

If each "burst" were treated like a short range gun going off in a spherical pattern and adding some buffetting when these bursts go off in close to a plane I think you mihgt be getting close to something more useful.

Anyway thats ma 2 cents worth.

or

less flak, less accuracy with a way to take the ship guns out/damaged without having to sink entire ship

Also, TG commander should be able to switch on/off auto flak. And TG flak rounds should not be infinite.

No they aren't, no flak in AH, wether it comes from base or CV actually travels like a round. It is just programmed to pop up where ever the plane is so it doesn't matter if the plane is going 500mph and diving then change direction during the dive, the flak will still be near the plane, and that is what sucks. Make the flak actually travel through the air like every other run round in AH.

Would be nice if the flak stoped following you when you are in/above clouds.:)

Unless it's radar aimed Frenchy, believe they had radar aimed flak in the later half of the war atleast.

That is unless it is a proximity fused round from a player-manned 5" gun.
