damn this map is fun... lot's of areas where the furs are pretty even. flights not too long and it seems that even the fluffers are leaving trying not to spoil the fights. watched a few fields change hands but for a change... it didn't ruin all the action... just moved the front. We should dump all the other terrains except maybe the CV one when they fix the cv's. sure seen a lot of people up having fun.

Seconded

psche... I tend to like it as I focus on the Fighter role mostly. Xcept for the Islands map I dont really hate any of the maps we've had in the MA
But I understand why those who like GV action simply hate it.
What is me, I LOVED the beta map; and the 1.02 map too, that one with the A1 10K field

Even the server got tired of Mindanao last night and closed down.

The server was laughing at the knits attempts to take 46 & 47.

If you thought I was Nutz before, I'm completely insane now, after 5 goon runs, each time I dropped a bldg would come up, only to hear on my way with another that (insert name) dropped at 8ft off the deck or 8000ft..hehe I have no hair left on my head!
-
I agree with laz....the terrain is sweet....fights are many and quick to find.

Looks like I picked a good night to watch football. ;) Crazy Knitz trying to goon and Tampa wins! woot! :D
-
Agreed. Actually, the beta map was my all time favorite but Mindanao rocks. I especially like the 5k alt fields. Only 3k climb then into the fray!
-
rude... no fair agreeing with me. I know it is something sneaky and am keeping an eye on you. That was really low... even for you.

mmmm furballs mmmmm....
(logging into AH for the first time in a while)
-
I gues I play to much to fully appreciate the alure of the furball, they get boring for me I like to take bases, not furball between theam, Furballing all the time reminds me of FA to much.

Oops, I forgot this one, which has a map revealing that the elevations in the game are not accurate at all!

Lazs oh mighty furball goddess look at these quotes and tell me who said them without going through a nice long search on the web for. Furballing is for fools with no SA. Go back to FA
"As a fighter pilot, I knew from my own experiences how decisive surprise and luck can be for a sucess - which in the long run only comes to the one who combines daring with cool thinking".
"Individual victories in the air should be subordinate to the overall sucess of the group....The most important principle is to insure that those under you feel that their commander understands their worries; that the commander can be approached by anyone in the group; that what he demands of the group is necessary, and that you would never demand of them more that what you are willing to demand of yourself."
"Only the spirit of attack, born in a brave heart, will bring success to any fighter aircraft, no matter how highly developed it may be."
Read these and comprehend them as well. For I feel you have no idea what it is like.

"Oops, I forgot this one, which has a map revealing that the elevations in the game are not accurate at all!"
Now who's commenting on accuracy or realism in this game? Just shrug it off. Like the use of ALT X when in a dive and blacked out.

geeze sachs.... Do you really think you are a real WWII fighter pilot? what a dipshit. That was life and death and duty and responsibility. It also was 100's of hours of boredom for every minute of fight. This is a game.... Did you get that? A game. It is meant to be FUN. Do you fly historicaly? hell no.. You use miniscule little select bits of history to justify your style. That is fine but keep it to yourself.
I would also add that to feel that you are the caretaker of all that is "historical" is the height of arrogance... might as well be in a LW squad. I would venture to say that I have as many books on WWII air combat as you do. I enjoy reading them. I also am able to seperate them from what we do here.

That's not the point, Westy. The point is, IMO, that the changes in elevation and things were done for gameplay concessions. I think some of those changes were pointless, and would be better off omitted. The radical departure from accuracy in the depiction of elevation is one of them. It has slowed down the progress of captures and made Mindanao a very difficult map to enjoy (for some).
I don't have a problem with Mindanao, as it is. However, if the changes I noted above were implememted, I think those that don't like it might begin to have more fun.

granted this map is lots of fun
my only issue with it is the country in the south is most likely to be reset
now i know i shouldnt complain, or even add my two cents, because i am bish and we got the NW corner, which i have NEVER seen reset
but then again laz's point was he likes this map because of the ease of finding a furball. he likes that kind of play, and he is entitled to his likes and dislikes.
all i'm saying is to those who perfer strat and taking bases, as Brady outlined, this map seems to "pre-determine" the outcome of the "war."

"That's not the point, Westy. "
I know it wasn't. I offered a differetn point. AH seems to be labelled as "just a game" by you. Especially notyed by myself when commenting on other realism issues such as external sounds in flight or use of auto trimming to defy augering when in a blackout state. I simply took a similar stance by pointing out that it's no big deal if the terrain is not accurate as it will not effect the overall gameplay nor tarnish any reputation for "realism" that AH had, has or might have someday.

I don't have a disagreement with you there. I merely point out that making the map closer to the real Mindanao would not detract from gameplay. Quite the contrary.
Concerning blackout, I don't do it. When dying, it is a simple matter of trimming the plane manually, anyway. As far as landing when dying; merely a matter of timing. If HT re-fashioned the game so that the cockpit noise level was more accurate, I would not miss outside sounds. They have a 'cool' factor that doesn't influence my gameplay. I do find it ammusing that when reviewing films I can tell when guys are uselessly firing away. Knights are particularly fond of firing after losing their tails. I derive much enjoyment from this.
In short, I think this (blacout auto-trim) is a poor item to make light of. Wind layers detract from the game more then trims do (IMO).
Yes, it's a game. Adjusting the map would help gameplay. Making auto-trim unavailable during blackout... Well, I think of that as nit-picky. Either way it wouldn't be missed.

Laz, dat was bee-yoo-tee-full.

Mindanao is my favorite, but it can be difficult to 'win'.
I think if the carrier there was made more bomb resistant, there would be fewer stalemates on that map.
