Title: Are there numbers to match AH against these?
Post by: Shiva on August 04, 2003, 09:10:09 PM
While cruising /. (http://www.slashdot.org/) , I ran across an article referencing Bruce Sterling Woodcock's MMOG Subscription chart (http://pw1.netcom.com/~sirbruce/Subscriptions.html), which charts the subscription numbers for a number of games, including WWIIOL, which after its introduction appears to have stabilized at about 15,000 - 20,000 players, and I wondered if HTC had comparable data. I don't think there's any way AH can compare in member base to Evercrack, but it would be interesting to see where our membership stood in comparison.

15000-20000 people with lack of judgement? Hard to believe.

Then again, world is large.

judging from the score pages wich isnt entirely accurate Id say ah subscribtion numbers could be as low as 3000 to 5000 members or potentially much much higher. the best way to get a rough estimate is to check ww2ol numbers at prime times and see how many people are playing at a given time compared to the reported 15,000 subscribers.

15,000? I find that very hard to believe given their desperation to attract more.

Knowing the way they work,it wouldn't surprise me if the 15,000 was accurate....for the total amount of players who have ever suscribed.

Not the number who are currently playing.

I'd like to see how many accounts are actually active.

Well if compared to the competition - ie WB and FA then AH is way ahead with 400 odd online at peak times - don't know about IL-FB though they do seem to have a large (but now rather grumpy) player base - would be interesting to know where all the sims actually stand.

i feel that WWIIonline is not the same as WB or AH. it is more of a combat feel then a flight game.

WWIIonline has better tanks, trucks, inf, AT guns and towns with what feels much more real...and needs much more thinking.

AH what i have seen so far is a much better flying game for me as it is not full real... we only have black outs.

we really can not put WWIIonline in the same pot as the flight sims.

as for numbers.... 1800 to 2100 on line in WWIIonline

Yes there was a free trial period for WW2OL and actually, there's another one starting tonight.

how many subscribe and how many per night is what counts.

WWIIonline has around 1500 per night.

Guys I have some golden information for you.

In the old days of Warbirds, we had access to info that showed for Online Games, the formula was:

Maximum peak players * 10 = Subscriber base.

So if you test it:

AH
500 player online peak = 5000 subscribers.
How many in the score stats about 4000-5000.
Formula looks good so far.

WWIIOnline
1000-1500 players in peak times = 10000 to 15000 subscribers.
The link above says about 15000 subscribers.
Formula looks good again.

WW2OL shows you data on how many are playing? That's news to me.

Sandman,

Can you change your avatar?

I'm running out of Kerry Lotion and my wife is exhausted.

Thanks!

I have never been to WW2OL.  Is it any good, or is AH a  better Sim to fly.  Just wondering...

wwiionline flight model is nearly identical to AH now (the best there is out there ;) ).

Only problem is you dont get to fly a variety of planes.  Right now graphics and everything are great, damage model is great, but gameplay is not so hot.  You fly blind (not even a simple version of radar, jesus not even dar bar), which does not make it loads of fun.

wwiionline is a war simulation, not a fun flight sim.  I bop into wwiionline every once in a while to keep an eye on it, but there are just too many little things that piss me off to stay there for long.

What is the cost of WW2OL compared to AH.  I think that AH price is great, but I sped about 90 or so hours online a month, so I feel I get my moneys worth..  Just a thought.  Thanks for the reply..

WWII is more of a war game.... its much better them AH when it comes to battles.

AH is a flight slim only in my opinoin.

when you step into WWII it feals very real but flight is more on the full real mode and yes, no dar

wwii is a little cheaper than ah but requires a very good computer with a fast internet connection.  They dont say that, but it does.

Numbers can be a funny thing, just look at the way gov. agencies calculate certain things, imagine this as a way to calculate income..

Ten people are polled, Bill Gates and 9 welfare recipients, the mean income will be around $50 million a year per person. Tell that to the welfare dudes.

And on that thought, Aces High was downloaded 274,793  times and Warbirds 305,260  from download.com. And I somehow doubt there is half a million sim players swanning about the virtual skies.

My 2 cents.
