Title: Random Drop To Desktop
Post by: Vipermann on August 05, 2003, 10:53:49 AM
After rebuilding my computer this last time I've encountered an error I never have before.

I'll be flying along and then BAM I'm looking at the desktop, still connected to the internet, computer is stable, no error messages, just AH simply shuts down. I can start AH up again and it's fine.

It seems to be completely random.

Anyone ever experience this?

YUP!

Same problem with one difference;
I can move around in game, Choose weapons, Veh, Planes, etc.
Even talk on da radidio all I want...

But the second I have the clipbd up, and CLICK on a runway launch button,  (Spawn button?), I end up CTD'd.

Still connected, No Errors, No Aces High.  Just Desktop.

Same issue w/ all the ON-LINE arenas. MA, CT, Duelling, Tng. etc.

OFF-Line w/ same maps is no trouble.
Frame rates are great, (45 - 50+ fps), consistantly.

I've Reformatted the HD, reinstalled EVERYTHING;   98se, Drivers, Video, Aces High, and Direct X 9.0.

Still no joy

Try this:

1)  Go to the Aces High installation folder (defaults to C:\Program Files\HTC\Aces High), and move the settings folder to another name.
2)  If you have installed any sounds, revert back to stock sounds.  Easiest way to do this is to remove Aces High, then re-install it.  NOTE:  The removal process does not remove the "settings" folder.
3)  Check to see if you have any squad art loaded in the squads folder.  Remove them.
4)  Make sure you have no firewalls or anti-virus software running.

One of the above will probably correct the problem, if not a combination of them.

This has been kind of ambiguous to me Skuzzy.  Are you trying to say 'rename' the settings folder or move the settings folder to another folder?  I have been only renaming the settings folder as that is how I enterpreted your instructions.  Is this correct?

Yes, I meant rename the folder.  Just want to get it out of the way for the purpose of testing to see if it has something corrupt in it.

Thx Skuzzy!;

Deleting the settings folder did the trick.
