I'm looking for additional files to process for the newly built, now in beta testing, AH Sound Manager. (which will utilize a peer to peer network for file sharing\trading.
If you have what you consider to be outstanding sounds, whether for AC, Vehicles or Effects, feel free to zip them up and send them to me, or email me a link to download them, at animal@skyenet.net.
If the zip file containing the files is over 1mb please contact me first for arraignments. DO NOT send files found in Mitsu's Sound Collection, I have these all already.
What will happen to these sounds?
Background for those who don't know me.
First I've been a professional concert sound\audio engineer for going on 24 years now. I also own AH Tech Hangar, owned AW Tech Hangar, AWCast, WinGamer etc..., and have built several programs for Air Warrior. Also Gamer-Kit, and History & Cache Flush. So my background is Audio and software programming (VB). What I *intend* to do is bring the AH audio up to professional standards.
Basically what I do is convert the files to 32 bit stereo where the environment is much more digitally exact. At this phase I do some digital re-processing. The processes I use depends on the condition of the file. The file is then brought down and archived as 16-bit stereo, from this point a copy of the file is brought down to 16-bit mono for use in AH. (patiently awaiting use of stereo files in AH).
In some cases, such as plane engine files some sounds are mixed in to make the sound more complete, like propeller noise, or stretched to change RPM levels.
The best files will be included in the AH Sound Manager when downloaded.
AHSM (Aces High Sound Manager)
AH Sound Manager is built and is closed Beta version 1.0.5 soon to be 1.0.6. It will very soon be available.
*Some* features of AHSM.
2 complete file sets can be stored in every sound folder in AH. One set "Muted" and another set "Un-Muted". Each file can be individually muted or un-muted with 1 click. Files with same names will alternate depending on mute settings. When a file of the same name is un-muted the other file with same name becomes muted, and vise-versa. In short you can toggle between two sounds with one click.
AHSM also contains an Archive of files which lets you store multiple sets of sounds, limited only by Hard Drive Space.
When viewing files in AHSM you can view active AH files and Archive files at the same time. ALL categorized by country or effect.
Auto Play Audio - AHSM comes with it's own built-in .wav player. And option allows the user to listen to each sound on selection. This can also be toggle to off. At which point the "Play" button can be manually used to play files.
So not only can you see all associated files at once, you can compare the audio instantly.
The rest is file manipulations, peer to peer networking (using WinMX for file sharing, like napster), live chat and more...
Again, If you would like to contribute sounds to the project, contact me via email or late night in the game.
Thanks in advance

I've got some tunes I use as substitute engine start-ups. Not exactly realistic, but they do make for a good intro to a long climb-out.

You ever get that link I sent you for Roboto's sound pack? Flakbait also has a sound pack out there and was looking for a host, maybe he'll see this and contact you.

Wow. This is awesome. Let me look around as I until last summer I was collecting every sound posted and offered by players here (some from WB's also). The sounds included those from Citabria, Flakbait, Mitsu, Whels and others. It was a BIG collection - a few hundred meg worth. If I can find it I'll see what's on it and maybe make arrangments to just mail you a copy of the CD. While you may already have a good chunk of what's been offered (Mitsu's) there may be others you could use off the CD.

Ahhhh Westy, always on top of the game. ;-)
Sounds good, you have my email addy. (animal@skyenet.net)
I can give you a mailing address from there.
I probably have a couple hundred myself, although I'm sure that barely taps in to what is probably availble, SOMEWHERE.
Even found some P-51 sounds on WinMX .

Dunno, must have lost it, resend just in case.
As soon as I get the actual software nailed down, I'm going to start processing.
AKAK (beta tester)
Keep checking the "Check for update" option. When it auto DLs the update, save your sound folders while it's DLing, *remove* beta version 1.0.5. The update .exe is stored in the AHSM\bin\update folder. Remove 1.0.5 and reinstall 1.0.6. This will be the only time you need to do this. However, I'm still nipping and tucking the corners, so it may be another day or two. Re distribute your sounds accordingly, go to "Options" and click the "Archive Files" button to auto lable all files in AHSM as Archived files.
"Import" was removed, no longer needed.

Do you have any of Voxx's WB 2.xx sounds? I can't find them anywhere anymore and the only ones I can find are his new Mac WB sounds for WB3, which are in .dll format.

I've sent you the DB engine start up sequence I use in my AH sounds for the 109s and other DB60x engine planes.
It's a mix of multiple sounds which people already have, but it is pretty cool, and I think it is the best 109 start-up sound I've heard, among many sound packs, if I speak for myself(mixed the sounds myself :D ). It is pretty simular to the DB start-up sequence in IL-2/FB.
Another good thing is, the moment when the engine really fires up, matches the visuals in the cockpit where the props also engage in full power rotation. :)
Give it a try. :)
Anyone else interested, please let me know.

Hiya Ack-Ack! Sorry. I had Voxx's sounds at one point (early on) but found most sounds being offered by folks were the same quality or better for AH. I did grab and save Brro's though.
Seems I culled my sounds collecting last August so I only have half of what I thought I did :(
This is what I have. Each of the multi-MB sized files has far too many sounds to list them out.
FLAKBAIT'S ULTIMATE SOUNDS V25 26mb
MITSU'S SOUNDS COLLECTION V1051 23mb
WHELS' 14mb
FSCOTTs 14mb
AKWABBIT s 11mb
MILNKOs 6mb
BESSs 3mb
BRROs 2mb
ROBOTs AH B17 SOUNDS 2mb
CITABRIA'S P-38 331k
FISHUs AR232 177k
FISHUs P-38 ENGINE 140k
FISHUs Vengine, EXLP's & GUNs 922k
KI61c SOUNDS 596k
WEAZELs 109G10 458k
WEAZELs 190A8 385k

I would like to be able to adjust bass mid and treb freqs for each selectable sound file. Is this possible?
I applaud your effort to create a sound manager and look forward to trying it out.
-
Would it be possible for you to send me FSCOTTS 50 cal sound?
-
Hi Yeager :)
I checked the ZIP file and all I have from FScott were various aircraft engine sounds. I do not recall FScott putting anything other than engine sounds up on his website. If he did I missed them. Sorry.
-
i would love to be able to edit some of the sounds... like the m3's .50 cal. because AH doesnt let you turn it down at all.
see i have almost all sounds turned down around 40% and VOX all the way up to hear those people with reay quiet vox. problem is the tank gun sounds do not turn down in AH, so if i go into a GV the boom or rat-a-tat drowns out VOX and all other things basically giving me a headache. :(
yes i have re-installed AH ultiple times. every time the GV main gun sounds can not be adjusted.
oh well my 2¢
-
Have you checked the properties on your AH sounds.cfg file, or the actual .wav, and made sure it's not "read only" ?

As of right now I'm not going to get that far into it as far as building the actual editor.
There are a lot of reasons for this.
First, there are some really GREAT! programs out there to do things to sound limited only by imagination. For me to build what's already out there would be a wasted effort, at this time, and it would tie me up from making orm adding to other projects.
Cool Edit, Cool Edit Pro (what I use), are really about as good as your gonna get without paying a few $1000 for studio quality gear. Sound foundry is another great program with add-ons. However I personally feel Cool Edit is th emost user freindly. I'm not going to try to out do that, and building something half\assed is not my style.
I am already looking into some features I can use in VB that would enable some editing. But for me, if I can't get a 31 band EQ happening it's not worth it since that is the core of all sound. The rest is toys.
I'm looking into some DirectX add-on type files that MAY produce this for me. I've actually gotten some files for a 31 band and parametric EQs. But I'm not sure I can package them yet. It may be a suggested thing like WinMX and buttons put in place to control it.
This is more in the future. If I do get to a built in editor it proabably wouldn't be tackled until fall\winter to be honest.
Until then I want to spend the current time maximizing the hell out of the core AHSM program.
One thing I can almost guarantee, AHSM will end up a pretty elabrite program for what it does.
If HTC decides to allow art manipulation, I will build a sister proggy for that. ;-)
I am *ALWAYS* Spinning wheels and doing something.
I don't ask for thanks, other then users return the favor and contribute something to AH community, whether it be helping a newbie, or things like I do or both. ;-). And for each person you do things for, tell them to return your favor by helping someone else... and on and on
That's what it's ALLLLLL about.

yeah i did that....
actually after alot of frustration i made my sound cfg file read only to keep the plane gun sounds stay the same.
what it would do is adjust the sound to where i wanted then next sortie be full up. all i had to do was open the sound settings and they would go back to lower. now that i made the whole thing read only it stays where i want it.
but again yes i made sure Nothing was read only before i made settings changes.

FT_animal,
lol - think to many music buffs play this thing....
Anyway, I also do prod.management / audio engineering in the industry, and have access to to a pro-tools rig, Nuendo (what I mix in) and several sound editors. I've been jacking around with the sounds and STILL want to find a way to encode some for a 5.1 , 6.1 surround setting. The Nuendo package that I have also has the Surround plugin, but I haven't delved into game files yet. Anyway, Currently I'm recording some acts in between road trips, but when on the road - i've got my laptop - and until they can make (or the bus company can afford) tracking sattelite internet - editing sounds might be fun to do from the back of a bus instead of playing Ah or other things :)

The nice thing about editing this stuff is it's infinate.
I don't tour anymore, just getting too old for it anymore. Last tour was a basic favor for Aretha, and like everyone else I had problems with her after about a year. Total nonsense.
Right now I'm basing myself out of Star Plaza Theatre in IN. We MAY have run into each other already.
The problem with these files and all the files for most games is thay are dirty as HELL, grainy, scratchy nasty stuff. As you and I both know there's just some recordings that are trash and will remain trash, ya can't fix everything.
If you have the rig I think you have, maybe see if it's more accurate at removing pops and clicks then what I have. Maybe we can do a co-op thing while you're on the road. I KNOW how boring that can be, .
Good to hear from somone else in the biz .

Yes, I have all the x-hum / x-click /x-noise plugins along with some other restoration tools. I'll send you my email, and if you want - you can send a few down and I'll see what I can do with them.

Have you talked with the guys who run AEHS (http://www.enginehistory.org/ ). They ran a story on engine sounds in a recent edition of their journal Torque Meter.

Not sure if HT has the capabilites or if it may already be there in the code. But *I* think what would "REALLY" improve that vox situation is if they could compress the over all output of vox ch in the game. This would help keep everyone in the ball park of the same volume level.
Try using something like CoolEdit to adjust the volume of your files themselves. I THINK Windows default sound recorder will also do that for you. This is a default in AHSM, if you install an editor you can set the button in AHSM to open it.
just 2 cents

It was Graham White, editor of Torque Meter, who wrote the column on sounds in the Winter 2003 edition.
In a letter in the Summer 2003 edition, which I received yesterday, it was mentioned THAT BILL PAINTER (KALAMAZOO AIR ZOO) HAS FILES OF ENGINE SOUNDS.

At the Con, HiTech hinted that customisable skins would be allowed in AH2 - they would have to be submitted for approval, like the squad patches, and if approved would appear as an option in the Hangar. :)

I have all the Sac sounds from AW and use some of them in AH.
