Title: Any homeland security officers here?
Post by: Vulcan on August 05, 2003, 06:00:33 PM
Very wierd news story from here (NZ), apparently this guy has sat exams for Saudi nationals on other occassions. Smells bad to me, wonder if its just people cheating on exams or something more sinister? The wierd thing is the press here haven't clicked onto its potential terrorist links. I wonder if this is happening in other countries too?

Man charged with impersonating Saudi national
06 August 2003

A South Auckland man who allegedly impersonated a Saudi Arabian national and sat an exam for a commercial pilot's licence was due to appear in a Tauranga court today.

The 27-year-old from Otara faces five charges after police alleged he passed himself off as a recently arrived Saudi national and sat an examination for a private and commercial pilot's licence on the Saudi man's behalf.

The man was arrested in Tauranga last night after he finished sitting the exam and was due to appear in Tauranga District Court on charges laid under the Crimes Act.

Who would voluntarily be a Saudi?!

All joking aside, this does smell very fishy.

A guy was recently arrested at an upscale mall here for claiming to be a member of the Saudi royal family and getting 29 grand in credit from some department stores.

" ... and sat an examination for a private and commercial pilot's licence on the Saudi man's behalf. "

It's a subtle but distinct difference.

why else (other than terrorism would you have hire someone to take a pilots exam for you?  it's not the type of job you could go to work and do poorly at, then come home and cash a check you didn't really earn.  I mean if you can't pass the test, then what would you be planning to do with the license? or at least. what that you planned to walk away from?

if all is as it apears this guy should be looking at some serious prison time.

Hrrrmm...I grew up in Tauranga...I would've thought a Saudi was quite a unique thing there, mind you ...I haven't been there for a fair while

For the chicks!  "Hey baby, yeah I'm a pilot.  Here's my license."

Actually, having a commercial pilot's license is a good way to get free air travel on commercial carriers - sort of a professional courtesy so long as you don't actually try to ride on the airline by which you're pretending to be employed.

Where's toad when you need him?

Can a commercial pilot's license be given to someone with no flight time?

Sorry, Vulcan, but Saudi links to terrorism are just plain ridikulous!

Move along, there's nothing to see here.
