just beginning to make plans.

Sure man, you are welcome to stay with me, just let me know dates asap, because I may not be here etc.  I also have to clear it with "the one who must be obeyed".  She is going to be pretty pregnant by then, and possibly on early maternity leave.  :)

We do have kids, so I hope this girl isn't a screamer.  :)

Rent mopeds while here so you have transportation.  You could just rent one and put the chicky poo on the back if she trusts you.  Just don't kill yourselves!

We have a couple of pools right here at the condo unit and a tennis court, but there is a chance we might be moving fairly soon.  I may have found a house and if we get it we will need to go fairly quickly.  It will all happen fairly soon..or not..so it isn't an issue.

The house doesn't have a pool, but is nice and close to the beaches.

I've said it before, but I will repeat...do it before the winter time.  I'd come in Oct or early November if you want beach weather.  December, Januray and February can be really "hit and miss" for good weather.

thanks bro, as soon as we have a clear idea of when
we'll let you know.  FYI we could always put it off
until after the winter because of tight schedules here...
but I'll stay in touch and let you know.

I have them, but freeservers.com (my hosting site) doesn't allow linking...which was the whole point of signing up.

Someone posted a new free hosting service and I have the link...just haven't had time to sign up etc.

Check that link and go to the various beaches...lots of pics there.

lol Maniac....I made an offer for a mini-con in Bermuda about a year ago...no interest at that time.

What are your qualifications?

Immigration here is very sticky with respect to anyone who isn't professionally qualified.  Accountants are welcomed with open arms, as are lawyers, actuaries and re-insurance experts (any recognised insurance qualifications would suffice though).  They take a dim view of people who want jobs that locals who aren't so qualified can do.

If it wasn't that way we would have a hard time moving around on this tiny little island.  :)

If you have the right stuff hanging on the wall in a pretty frame then the opportunities are there, if not there is a three weeks maximum stay policy (extended if you have a good enough reason to stay longer...such a reason could be that you are having fun, but you had better be staying in a hotel).

I had discussed the opportunities in the Carribean islands to someone who was quailfied, or trying to e qualified, in computer networking, or something like that a while back.  Those types of jobs would be advertised in trade rags I presume.  If you were a Canadian accountant you could find the ads in the back of CA Magazine, for example.  Bermuda isn't in the Carribean...lol I probably even spelled it wrong.

What's going on?  How come you are thinking of moving all of a sudden?

Well then YOU could be okay...but she won't be able to work unless she found something here and it was a job that a local couldn't do.

Thing is it can't be wishy washy.  Immigration will expect you to have a work permit before you arrive.  You can't just show up and look for work (unless done clandestinley during your 3 weeks allowable stay.)

What is your profession?

Okay....need potential starting dates, a resume and an idea of how long you want to stay.  From experience IT contracts are for a minimum of one year, but employers prefer two.

:)  I'm not quite 'there' yet.

As I mentioned, we both wanted to do this so
let me talk with her some more first .

Start dates would be like late winter/spring next year (northern hemisphere that is :) )

FYI, we may decide that a visit is in order much sooner than
that though.. naturally we'll give you tons of advance warning...

we wouldn't want "the one that must be obeyed" to be too surprised ;)

How are British citizens received - would I need a work permit? How much independence does Bermuda have from us?

Maybe its worth becoming an accountant just to get to Bermuda...? I'm seriously looking into the accountancy route - even though everyone says it is as dull as hell.

Brits are received rather well old chap...but you still need a work permit.;)

We are very lucky to be subjects of the Crown...the UK have offered full citizenship and right of abode in the UK, but has not made this reciprocal to its own citizens.  Again, the reason being that it is just too small of an island and every yobo with an urge for a suntan would be parked on the beaches.  ;)

We are self governed for the most part...basically we look to the UK for help when needed.  Such help can be very beneficial when you are situated so close to the US and are in the Financial Services "game".  ;)

Work permits are a bit of a political "hot potato" here at the moment.  We have a labour government which has passed legislation requiring such permits to be limited for 6 years, unless the individual is classified as a "key" employee.  The limit is extended to 10 years in that case...with exemptions for essential personel, such as CEOs or CFOs.

If they know what is good for them, and the island in general, they will hopefully re-visit this concept.  It could usher in the beginning of the end for our status as a preferred place to do business offshore.

It's your call on the accounting designation Dowding...but no matter what happens in Bermuda, accountants will always be in great demand here and in the other islands to the south.  It is a designation that would hold you in good stead and make you marketable in any country in the world.

work permits?  Who the heck needs one of those?  We're staying at Curval's right?  The great thing about having friends in other countries is that you don't have to pay for stuff there! :D
