Title: Voice problems
Post by: Sable on August 11, 2003, 09:45:28 AM
I'm able to recieve other peoples voice transmissions, but I am unable to transmit.  I am able to use the built-in voice feature in Half-Life with no problems, so I know my headset is working etc.  When I press the key I have mapped in AH for the Mike I don't see any indication that the mic is live (though I'm not sure if I should see anything either).  Btw, I'm using the onboard sound on an ASUS motherboard running under XP.  Any ideas?

hi sable,

1:if you use 'sound recorder' in windows to check your working first? record yourself and play back. do you hear yourself?
if so go 2 if not set up mic in control panels/sound

2: In AH if you tune radio to yourself:

.radio 5 sable

then press T (should be default) and talk do you hear yourself?
if you do this is what everyone will here.

if not check mic setting in clipboard.

also make sure Mic Boost is turned on.

also try turning sound acceleration down.

hope this help a bit  :)

Sable, I had the same problem pop up a week ago. Vox had always worked fine before that.

The problem seemed to be that my McAfee firewall got turned on somehow... never used it because I'm on dialup... when I disabled it, Vox worked again.

That's interesting.  Does Vox in AH use a specific port?  I suppose it's possible that my router is blocking that port, or that some app me or my roomate are running are blocking it.

I think Skuzzy (in another post) said that AH randomly uses ports in the range of 2000-5000, so you could try specifying those.

Here is that thread...
