Title: RPC shutdowns?
Post by: WhiteHawk on August 12, 2003, 09:01:16 AM: Not related to AH, but maybe some wizard in here has encountered this before. All of a sudden i am getting RPC error, and the computer needs to shutdown. Well, I set the property to not shutdown the computer so gameplay is not affected, but the error still occurs and some of my comuters abilities are cutoff.
Any help appreciated.
I have not made any upgrades or changes from when my puter was running ok.
I did a system restore to a point where my puter was ok.
I did a virus check and none were detected.
I have been getting alot of HD activity lately while playing,

p4 1.7
768 SDRAM
gf ti4200
winxp

Puter was running fine until jjust recently. Also getting some
'could not write to memory "0000008" or something.
Do I have a bad memory stick?

After you install the patch, you can download the removal tool from symantec to get rid of the virus.

If anybody esle has this, there is a tricky part to removing it. The worm actually forces the computer to shutdown about every 5 or 6 minutes, so it is hard to downlaod and install anything,in this short time frame.
What helped me is to go to start menu select run then type in the window 'services.msc' without the quotes. Scroll down to the first 'remote call procedure' line (there are 2 of em), highlight the line and right click, select properties, then click the recovery tab. There you will select 'restart service' then ok your way out. Do this for both the RPC lines. This will allow your computer to stay afloat until you get the patch and/or the FixBlast file downloaded and installed. The computer will run like sht, but you should be able to struggle thru it.
My puter is running good again, apparently there is no file destruction or other permanent disfigures.

Post by: MajorDay on August 12, 2003, 08:37:09 PM: Whew, I thought the "worm" was going destroyed my computer, but the "worm" has been removed. I had to get new Anti-Virus software cuz I hate Nortan Anti-Virus 2002 and I just brought McAfee Virus Scan Professional 7.0(I love it).
