Title: Big 1/48 scale model SALE!!!
Post by: MrCoffee on August 12, 2003, 10:40:18 PM
Im now selling all of my 1/48 scale world war II model aircraft kits. It will probably be ten years before I have the time to build these kits so Ive decided to sell them to those who do have the time to build them. I am currently building a price list but you are welcome to PM me with an offer on price per kit or kits. Just do an internet search for the model kits to value their price and make me a offer else I'll have a price listing shortly. Can pay through PayPal.

All model kits are 1/48 scale brand new with no missing parts. Some have metal parts.

If the bag was opened , it was just to inspect parts. Everything is still on the sprue, all canopy pieces unless still in bag were wrapped in tissue paper for protection and storage. Not all kits put their canopies in plastic so I did this myself. Its all good funked.

GR, email me.

Wow... you've got more kits than some STORES I've seen.

How did you come to have all these? I mean.... When you bought your 27th model, for example, were you like "THIS is the one I'm going to start building... yup... I got a good feeling about it... this one right here... THEN I'll start to tackle the rest of them... "

Or...

I dunno. It's crazy! Don't get me wrong... It'd be freakin' great to own alla those... but wow.... :)

If you buy them both 30 bucks + shipping and handling about 10 bucks.

The Promodeler A-26B is about 28 dollars at your local hobby shop and the HobbyCraft kit goes for about 16-18 dollars.

Ouch... great prices.... but probably shipping them to Spain would spoil the price goodness. :(

Some of these would look great among  my other 20 unopened aircraft and AFV model boxes :D

MMmm, I'm getting somewhat fed up of computer gaming alltogether as of late, methinks I could blow the dust off my unopened spanish civil war 109-D and I-16, they have been sitting there for years....

I have a dumb question ... are these kits pre-painted for the most part, or do they require detailed painting? I ask because I am not an artist by any means, and I'm sure would suck at painting. But I'd love to put pieces to gether and use stickers and stuff.

If there is painting, are there at least patterns?

Thanks :)

Nimitz, all the kits I've bought were a single color for most parts, maybe a second color like black for a few parts and clear for the canopy. They come with decals for insignia but if you want them to look good you're gonna hafta do some painting.

Nim,

I'd go back and look at your hobby store.  I didn't do models for years because of the paintin.  The few times I did, I had the GF paint them.

Now, most hobby stores have tools that cost almost nothing, and make painting easy.

Please keep in mind that it costs about 10 bucks per package to send something of a few pounds from coast to coast so its cost effective to buy in bulk. Last time I shipped something out, it cost me 22 bucks to ship a large box weighing about 10 pounds. One box that weighs 1-2 pounds still costs about  8-10 bucks (depending on destination distance) so the average package costs about 8-10 bucks to send anyways via UPS ground.

BTW: The Hobby sale is sill open.

Most of the models are listed at 50% below the average cost at your local hobby shop.

Well it has alot of detail of the same quality as any Hasegawa kit. It even has a complete engine with cowels precut for open engine display. It also has metal gear struts and photo etched canopy and cockpit parts. I guess you plan on super detailing it up because its a luftwaffe bird. Would love to see how great it looks after you build it so perhaps you could post a picture on the BBS. Do you fade the paint out 10-20%. There is also a resin mod kit to build a Ta-152 C-01,2,3 variant that has short wings. I've seen this kit around before so dont forget your collection will need one of those as well.

Thats why I had two Ta-152s.

What do you guys think is better, Hasegawa or Tamiya? I like Tamiya over Hasegawa myself.
Title: Big 11/48 scale model SALE!!!
Post by: MrCoffee on August 16, 2003, 04:08:43 PM
Well they're both very comparable. Hasegawa has slightly better or finer surface detail and molding and perhaps thinner parts such as wing halves etc... The plastic is slightly harder and crispy then Tamayas which lends itself better to sanding etc... Just slightly though.  I've noticed Hasegawa kits generaly have thinner gauge sprue rails compared to most other kits even Tamaya. This lends itself to better detail level during mold process. Overall detail level are about the same, very close. Tamaya kits tend to fit better such as at the wing roots without filling. Some Hasegawas kits require a bit of filling here and there. Tamaya can put out an equivilent quality kit vs a Hasegawa for a cheaper price. Hasegawa kits kit a bit more, betweeen 5-8 dollars more sometimes. However Hasegawa has a much larger selection of variants and they routinely release special versions of their kits with uniq decals and markings.

All Tamaya kits available in Hasegawa also usually have better cockpit detail.

I would say Tamaya is my first choice because of price and cockpit detail (corsair is fantastic) then Hasegawa because of selection and bit better surface detail and plastic depthness).

Dragon-DML-TriMaster kits are like Hasegawa kits in detail and plastic just with slightly worse fitting. Then again, thats why they have model putty. They cost more than Hasegawa but they makes awsome kits and they make variants no other brand makes such as the Ju- series bombers. they make the best Luftwaffe stuff in my opinion. They make a slightly better FW-190 than Tamaya. Monogram ProModeller Ju-88A4 is actually a Dragon-DML kit. Italeri Ta-152 is also actually Dragon-DML kit.

If I cant sell these kits, I'll just be forced to keep them. ;) :D

Post by: MrCoffee on August 18, 2003, 03:11:20 PM
Well I would recommend any the HobbyCraft kits from above, the 109s for a starter kit is good. The 4.00 monogram kits are also good starter kits. Stay away from the bombers and Hasegawa kits cas they cost alot more. What sort of aircraft does your buddy like or need? All the kits above are good or exceptional (based on price). Cant go wrong with any.

BTW: Tamaya makes the best Corsairs in any scale, period. The mustangs are all very close. Hasegawa makes the best p-38, then Minicraft Academy. In comparison, the shape and surface detail is almost the same cept the Hasegawa kit has just a little bit more cockpit gear detail. Ever heard of "Minicraft-Hasegawa" from about 12 years back. I think some of their models share a comon lineage. The monogram p-38 cant even compare (parts horrible fit, lots of putty and sanding). The Monogram p-38 is probably harder to build than the Hasgawa and Minicraft kits. P-47s are very comparable. There isnt a bad kit listed above except for the free ju-88a4.

The Monogram Promodeller kits are new kits with engraved panel lines. Only the P-40 has raised lines but it has additional detail. I like Promodeller as well. Pfff, the P-39 AirCobra is HARD TO FIND ANYMORE (out of production). Theres a P-63 KingCobra made by another maker but it isnt as good as the Promodeller IMO (for 1/48).

email me if your interested.
