I find that hard to believe.  It weighed 11 lbs when it left, and flew 1888 miles on less than a gallon(probably much less, like about 1/2 gallon) of fuel?!

It landed with a Shotglass full, probably had a couple of gallon's at take off, but it isn't mentioned.

Wonder how much fuel it would take to power a model airplane for the est 37 hours they said even though it made it 38+?

“There was even about a shot-glass of gasoline left in the tank.”

LOL... I guess you skipped over the "left" part. ;)

It says "11 pounds at takeoff".  Water is 8 pounds per Gallon, Gas around 6.

Wow.. so you have to figure the weight of the plane in at about 6 pounds, so a gallon or less to get across the Atlantic.  Simply amazing really.

It carried 5.5 pounds of fuel, and used Coleman Lantern fuel.  I'm not sure how much that weighs, but they said the engine used 2 ounces of fuel an hour.

should be very close to the wieght of gas.  you can use gas in colman lanterns and stoves when you can't find the 'white gas'(coleman fuel is quite a bit purer though)
