There seam to be alot of people crying out for a Historical arena, or atleast an axis VS allies arena.
In my opinion a Historic would be better then an Axis VS Allies but Axies VS Allies would be better the the Main Arena.
Replay and say what you think!

I'm leaning towards scenarios w limited icons and no radar and lots of organization.
kind of like the S3's of WB
-
Theres no need for this now... Pyro and HT have clearly stated their oppinions on this...
They dont want to experiment with 2 different arenas at the same time because they are afraid to loose money..
Im certainly all for it, but we wont see it untill the user base has doubled or so methinks...

I am for it so long as we can rotate the arenas. I personally am planning on working on CBI and Pearl Terrains.
I think folks can do the Russian Front, BOB, Crete, North Africa, Western France, Eastern France, Ploesti, Etc.. Etc.. Give Each terrain a week, with a re-creation of an historical event on Saturday and Sunday.
So I guess I am in favor of a Space for some form of Allied -vs- Axis Arena.

HA plz.
kthx.

I've also read Pyro and HiTechs posts on the suject matter so I'll reserve a yes vote till AH has the numbers to populate one. In the meantime I'll put any effort I have available into the special events - be they one nighters or events that run over the course of a month.

In this thread, Pyro hints that he is "all for it" but not 24/7 (at least that's the way I read it). From what I have read, even if the planeset was there, HTC will not be implementing an HA anytime soon (on a full-time basis).
However, based on what I have read in that thread, possibly we can suggest that HTC turn SEA into an HA for one day a week? Say, Fridays for 24 hours the SEA is an HA. Let it run that way for several months and see if the interest holds. I picked Friday as an example because it is a weekend day, but would hopefully not interfere with any current plans for SEA use.

<<edit: I do not in any way pretend to know what Pyro meant in any of his posts, I'm just telling you what I think I read into it. I tend to agree that two arenas cannot currently be supported, which is why I thought a "test" of one day a week for several months might help

In that "other game", I lived in the HA. Sometimes I would be the only one in it. Often there would be less than 10 logged in. If you truly want a HA, help out the newbies and recruit new players. We need several times more players in AH before we will have enough to keep a HA busy and interesting.

I, with citabria, have decided that HA is not the answer. Instead, i think things like TOD etcera will probably be the best bet, and scenarios.
-
HA definitely, when the critical mass is big enough.

I like scenarios and TOD better than the idea of HA.

One day a week would surely not be too much to ask? Something to look forward to once a week might add a bit of fizz to the community.

We need at least x3 # of planes we have yet!!
In an allied vs axis u will see only Fw190A5 Spit IX (ETO) F4UC Niki (Pacific) the same we have in MA.
It's not the time yet we need to wait till people get bored to fly these "uber plane", and we need real aircraft and people that love to fight Hurrycane MkI vs Bf109E and similar.
PS: sorry to all Fw190D and SpitXXX fans (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Hmmmm-so what is the terrain editor going to do? Can it make the arena "historical" in appearence? Can bases be moved/deleted etc.. ? As far as critical mass of players goes, i don't see how its just going to get bigger if you don't have a way of attracking more with a different battlefield layout and different battle goals/possibilities. The competition is offering a historical geography and dynamic campaign of sorts. I think a lot of the younger/less experienced players may play AH for a while then get bored and the older players either know they want more of a H2H thing or will just wait it out till another sim comes out. How far can you go by adding new planes once in a while but not changing the battlefield and battle strategy?

I'm all for some type of historical or axis v. allied arena. I just keep remembering how the numbers in the other sims HA went down hill when it went 24/7. Other than some type of event, hardly anyone was there.
It seems to me that most of us that want an arena of this kind are "experienced sim pilots" if I may use that term. Are our numbers large enough?

Probably not, Apache. Especially if you consider all the different times we play at. Looks like the hard-core historical guys are going to have to wait until the numbers are where HT and Pyro want them to be.
-
I don't know any other sim with an Historical Arena except for Warbirds and one reason (I think) why there were few numbers in the HA there was that everybody was in the MA and nobody wanted to go into the HA to play by your self or maybe 10 other for $2 per hour, you noticed that once there were like 20 people in there the numbers would raise even further, sometimes up to 60 wich is fully acceptable in my opinion.
Apache, you're probarly right that it's mostly the old experienced pilot who want this, unfortunatly :-(

Whatever the arena, as people log on, perhaps assign them to a field and to an open wing. The new recruits (guys like me) get assigned to the wing of a more experienced pilot. I have to follow orders but gain more experience in a few hours than I could ever get on my own.
The wing leaders get some additional wingmen, better control over strat, and the chance to improve their effectiveness.
People who only want to log on and look for something to shoot can opt out and do their own thing.
Squads can either fill in their ranks or not.
