So there I was, in the deepest, darkest jungle of Bishland in SE Trinity flying my F6F. My squad was trying to take an airfield. Well, I was heavy with bombs & rockets. I noticed the vh up, so I went in and as usual, missed by a mile with my 1,000 lbs bombs.
Well, at least I still had rockets. So I lined up on the vh, close in to 1k, and fire only to miss to the left by a significant margin. Not just from the rocket on the left wing, but the right wing as well. Every rocket I fired last night from the F6F I flew went to the left. I eventually got used to it and started 'leading' my targets, but still found it a bit odd.
Anybody else having this situation?

Was your ball centered when you fired?

This is going to be a great thread.

did you have rudder centered, or did you fly kinda sideways? :D

LOL!!! Good one!! :D :D
I'm sure you didn't mean it that way, but its funny on so many different levels...

BTW... Gloves... Were you using Combat Trim? If so, when firing the rockets, where you at full throttle or idle?

MiniD,
I was a full throttle and Combat Trim was on. I was heading straight at the target without using rudders - just little adjustments with elevators and ailerons. The guns fired exactly where aimed. Just the rockets went off to the left. It happened on 3 occasions - with me trying to line up 3k away & fly as straight as possible at the target the last time. I'm wondering if there was some glitch with my computer that might be fixed now that it's been shut down. I'll try again this weekend and see if the trend continues. Was just curious if anybody else was having similar issues.
If it happens again, I'll record it & send in.
Thanks for the responses!

you must be right handed, try firing with your left

Which eye is your dominant eye?
culero (holding a straight face....barely)

As opposed to trying to center one ball, you may want to try balancing both. Personally, I lean to the left and compensate with trim.

Do you "dress" left, or to the right ??
It's a mass/gravity equation..
In my case being I dress right, I correct to the left..
But we're talking a great deal of mass in my case..
It also can burp the alphabet..

Gloves...lol hitech. On your turn corninator there is a ball that floats around, make sure thats centered before you fire

Rockets fire in the direction of travel, unlike guns which fire in the direction the nose is pointing

Ok I'll bite...
If that's true then it's wrong. The rockets are mounted on the wings so whatever direction the wings (nose) point, is where the rockets should go. True?

Not debating wrong or right, but HT's reply certainly backs up my statement.
Next time you find yourself missing your tail, and falling to the ground tailfirst loaded with rockets... firem, see where they go +)

Rockets will fire in the flight path of the plane. If your crabing the plane, or flying with right rudder but turning the plane left with allerions your flight path wont be wich way your wings or heading indicator say. Guns you think would do the same but I dont they do.
