And the Whiner is......

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm a bad person, I'll 'fess up right here and now. My patience has worn out with the influx of newbies, the time for "Hello, welcome aboard" has passed and the "Shaddup and go read the doc's" is becoming the knee jerk reaction.
And its not so much the Air Warrior guys, most of those folks are great fellas and say their Hello's to the room and commence play.

What's ticking me off is all the newbie's who refuse to read the docs, learn to play in the Training Room, and constantly try joining your aircraft. I had 8 players in a 1/2 hour period try joining my Typhoon. A quick check to the roster show's their rank of Zero.

We all learned this game at one point. Some nice folks lead me to the training room, and folks in there showed me how to fly the various planes, and gave me URLs to their websites and others on the pro's and con's of each aircraft, etc etc. Now, we have folks signing on with no bother to read the help files or stop by the training. Nope, let's plop down into the Main Arena, where everyone is, and pester the paying users. "HOW DO I BOMB?" "HOW DO I MOVE TO A DIFFERENT BASE" and the rantings go on and on. Forget relying on channel 2 for any status on fields or strategy. We've got to stop what we're doing and educate "Skippy", King of the Dweebs.

For a while, I endured it. But now, its just a constant thing. And I know a few others agree with me, YES newbies are good for the game but there's a right way and a wrong way to get started. And I've got fellas reminding me of what a jerk I am for suggesting the newbie go into the training room and LEARN. My logic (really, there is some...) is if they learn in there, not only are folks who are PATIENT and LIKE teaching people in there, but the poor newbie might be a bit less frustrated, and less a pain in the butt to the rest of the gaming community in the Main.

And if you bring a newbie into the game, how's about going into private chat with him, so those of us following the buffer for news on backup and other game situations do not have to squint through you and skippy's ramblings on "Gee the La7 is fast"

I want to be considerate to the newbies, I simply request that they be respectful to the members that are paying to play.

Am I outta line here, or simply asking too much?

In this community, a concern of yours is always viewed as a whine to others.

Some just feel they have to post it weekly.  :) Insecurity in its finest form.

I'm new to the game, and I don't have a problem with what was said. When we were in AW, we were just as frustrated when the influx of people was greater than our patience allowed. I'd rather have seen Rude post a public "frustration" comment, than just flare up in MA.

A saving grace for Rude, is that there is now a large community of "newbies" in the game that are doing what they can to help those coming over. You may have to listen to the comments more, but at least you're no longer totally responsible for typing in the answers to the questions.

I'm sorely disappointed in the Whine of the Week.  This wasn't even close in comparison to any past whine of the week winners.

BD5 only used caps to emphasize a few words and not using bold deducts points in the "whine."  Furthermore, no excessive punctuation or overly flippant remarks exist in the post.  I find it hard to even classify the post as a true whine, and it's definitely not one worthy of Whine of the Week consideration, let alone capturing the prestigious award.

Aww c'mon Lepaul...buck up man!

The only reason you view me as conceited is because you're a whiner. If you pocessed a rosey outlook on things as I do, you would see it as simply the truth.

Feeling tired of continuous requests for help by newbies in the MA is quite normal...many have moments, including myself, when it wears ya out a bit. However, to complain openly to the entire bbs community(including the new players, which is an insult)and deliver it with a lack of tact and style could mean only one thing....you're whinin!

Sorry man...don't mean it personally  :p

I enjoy whine of the week, Rude, and your choices will always lead to controvery. I really don't see BD's post as being a whine, but hey, this is your contest. All results are final.

BD5, if I were you, I'd ignore it and let your flying do the talking.

I think all you guys need a little cheese :)

I happen to agree with everything LePaul said. I think as the new BIG influx starts to slow then things will settle down. BUT!! when I first started WB's I did read all the help files and flew offline for awhile BEFORE I went into the MA. After getting my arse kicked in the MA for a bit I started reading ANYTHING I could find on ACM and SA. I wish more of our Skippy's would do the same. It shows their age IMO. As the price goes down for AH so does the age......and their lack of patienance and the ability to sit down and READ!

Yup, Fatty.  His latest makes the 1996 Late Hit whine pale in comparison.  (by the way, how come Spurrier didn't defend the quarterback in 1991 when he attempted 51 passes and was hit on every single attempt?  Oh yeah, cuz it was Weldon, and not Matthews!  It's ok to hit the FSU qb, just not the Gator qb.)

SOB, I figured you'd agree that this whine of the week was, well, weak.   ;)  I'm sure there was some whine out there that is far more deserving of the award.

If you could READ and COMPREHEND, i responded HERE to the the moronic GLEE some people HERE take over the difficulties of WWIIOL(and OTHER GAME PRODUCERS) and the recent LAYOFFS. I think that SUX. I think that attiude is STUPID. COMPRENDE??

If you, as you say, READ AGW, just CHECK the DIFFERENCE in repsonses to the bad news about WWIIOL and the PEOPLE(some of whom i have talked to online many times, some in person, some i PLAY OTHER GAMES WITH every week) who USED to WORK there for a LIVING to the general NASTINESS posted at THIS BBS towards both WARBIRDS and WWIIOL.

Not only do AH'ers post their NEGATIVE DRIVEL here, but they do it at AGW AS WELL. That too, SUX. COMPRENDE???

I didn't say ONE WORD about the GAME ACES HIGH, which i happen to think is A GREAT GAME. A game SUPERIOR to WB's 2.77 but, IMHO, not FOR ME at THIS TIME. But the ATTITUDE of your PLAYER BASE sometimes leaves MANY of we WARBIRDS/AIR WARRIOR/WWIIOL ETC. PLAYERS gasping. Why are they SO NASTY and so QUICK to RUN-DOWN OTHER GAMES AND DEVELOPERS??? This turns many potential AH CUSTOMERS OFF.

Many POTENTIAL CUSTOMERS of YOUR company would like to see a more MATURE attitude in the AH ARENA, and maybe a DIFFERENT DIRECTION in GAMEPLAY than the one Aces High is currently embarked upon. BUT, that doesn't mean Aces High isn't a GREAT GAME. Nor does it mean that OTHER GAMES aren't as GREAT A GAME as Aces High. They are just DIFFERENT.

I post here in the "OFF TOPIC"(which i assume means UNCENSORED) AH BBS because i have ALWAYS considered myself a POTENTIAL customer of HTC. I don't POST NEGATIVE COMMENTS about AH in the AH MAIN BBS because that's STUPID, and UN-CALLED FOR. I LIKE Aces HIgh. If some of the morons who posted in this thread don't WANT me as CUSTOMER of HTC, i couldn't care less. They can kiss my ass.

HOWEVER, if YOU think i should take my OPINIONS(and by inference, MY MONEY) elsewhere, then perhaps i should RECONSIDER.....

IS THAT CLEAR ENOUGH FOR YOU, SUPERFLY???

Tough week to choose.. lots of good contenders, as mentioned.

Multiple Nominations for Mindanao? Very Worthy.

Kieran's nomination of "the flying poultry guy" for "AH being off because I can't split-S or barrel-roll"? Incredibly Tough Competitor; just incredibly tough.

"Newbies"?

Well, considering that HTC isn't doing charity work here...

and considering that newbies = more $$$ for HTC...

and that more $$$ for HTC helps ensure the vitality and progress of my #1 choice for computer recreation....

"Newbies" by the thinnest of thin hairs (RCH?).

From my Webster's copy:
drawing, peevish wail; unmanly complaint; v.i. to utter peevish cry; to complain in a childish way.

I think what Rip was trying to say is that there is no better example of this than the childish nature of whining about the whiner.

One thing you don't hear most children do is cry about their siblings or peer crying.
Child's toy brakes, he/she crys to mom.  If you (Rude) were his/her sibling, we might expcet you to cry to mom about the first child crying about his/her toy.  SENSLESS.

There is validity in the initial whine, but most often, the true whine is the second.

And I think this is an example of what Rip meant when he said, "Insecurity in its finest form."
You repeatedly complain (whine) about someone elses complaint (whine) as if to hide your own issues.

You obviously care or you wouldn't pay attention, much less respond.

And it's not that I don't like you doing this...in fact it makes me feel more secure to see you whine louder than all of us put together.  :D

I just find it very interesting that my largely-rhetorical questions/post, which had a lot of good responses from folks who happned to have agreed, is considered a whine.

I consider things like people *comlpaining* that buffs are too tough and other nonsense as *whines*....things that are simply not true and genuine exaggerations.

My post was not a *whine* to this degree.  I posted about the fact a lot of newbies, not all, are ruining some of the gameplay for others and myself, having to endure tutoring them on Channel 2 since they couldn't be bothered to read the help files, practice in the training room, etc etc.

Instead, someone like Rude who takes it upon himself to take someone's post and label it a whine because he doesn't agree with, or like it.  Prejudice in its finest form.

So be warned, everyone, if your post doesn't measure up to Mr Rudes standards, your post can be the next victim.  Rather than elaborating on the points that original post was made about, we instead hammer the author in this ridiculous manner/thread.

This thread is just a long and tiring personal attack on me, and as a repeat "winner", its nice to see who my friends are and are not.  It will truly be remembered.  Its nice to think twice about sharing my 2 cents from now on.

Nice try guys.

In retrospect, since I started this Whiney thingie, it probably has served very little purpose other than to amuse me during my work day.

It all boils down to this....

I pay $15.00 a month for an outstanding sim/game which I derive fun and pleasure from day in and day out. The developers are responsive to customers in a way not seen before in the 10 years I've been playing. The community is vibrant...full of characters both funny and intense.

Now, having said this, I read through this board and find some folks(very few and usually the same one's)complaining about this and that and why can't I have this plane and why do we stay in this map or why does this groud vehicle not accurately model true top speed, etc. I think to myself...$15.00 a month? It's a great time and it's only $15.00 a month...how can anyone whine about this sim at $15.00 a month???

Now to be passionate about your hobby and state concerns or wants or hopes for your hobby, in a helpful or positive fashion is great...HTC listens and responds as they feel necessary...that's a good thing.

However, to just moan and whine about things you have no control over is, well, silly imo.

LePaul...it is my guess that if you would have spoken on private or contacted some of the new guys personally, that effort would have yielded gains positive towards the improvement of not only gameplay but the community as a whole. Instead, you chose to come here and vent your disapproval in the face of those who are new to this sim. I personally feel that was done in poor taste and struck me as whinin, pure and simple. You obviously disagree.

Viper....Anyone who knows me will tell you, I am many things. Insecure is not one of them...but, if it makes ya feel better  :)

I have come to realize, that the time spent playin catch with you two, is not time well spent. Perhaps this is a victory for you of some sorts, but I may just ditch this Whine of the Week thingie, and let others declare your ramblings as art or fodder.

Remember, if it looks like a whine....sounds like a whine...smells like a whine...then it's LePaul! :D

Just kiddin ya LeWhine...err Lepaul :)

If it makes a few whiners think twice before posting, then it's doing it's job as well as providing a few chuckles.  It's no coincidence that most of the people complaining have been worthy recipients of the award.

P.S.  I also find it interesting that the complainers still don't seem to have a clue what a "whine" is.

Don't know about LePaul's being the winning whine, but I think that you should be a paying customer to win. Therefore cabby is not eligible.

Here's my next whine.

Whining that I'm whining about whining about whining is even more annoying than whining about whining.
