Title: Time to leave
Post by: Revvin on August 17, 2003, 07:44:42 AM
I've decided to close my AH account but just wanted to pop by and say goodbye to the friends I've made in Aces High. Plenty of good memories down the years and thanks to HTC for providing so much fun. It's not a decision I took lightly as I have a squad to consider but I've hardly flown at all in the last few months.

I may try AHII:TOD but if I don't then HTC and the friends I made and thanks for all the good times...cya round folks.

I’m keeping my account open, regardless of hours played. They are way down now, but it’s not because AH isn’t still a great product. Just have had some great distractions in life which is nice.

It’s only $14.95 a month, and if AH2 Beta is only a month or 2 away, I don’t subscribe to the pity party logic that leaving now just to come back for AH2 serves any purpose at all, other than taking revenue from HTC when they deserve it the most.

While players quit and wait for something they deem better, HTC still has to spend their resources on making the new graphics, FM codes, damage improvements, etc… I think it’s a slap in their face considering.

Seems to me HiTech and Co. have taken a very positive step to progress the game with the announcement of AH2, and will surely provide us subscribers with even more good stuff soon. For the same price too I bet. It has taken some time, sure, at the expense of updating the current game which is soon to be replaced, and it should. Certainly you guys caught that concept and realized the good of no more updates because the resources were being focused on bigger and better things ? Still, that doesn’t discount the righteous deal we have now, which is a really fun game, and I gladly pay the price of admission. Hell, as I see it, I can’t afford NOT to support HTC, especially now when they are putting out such a radical update in AH2. Every dollar helps a growing company.

Using their BBS to stage that you are yanking your support dollars for a month or 2 is kinda crappy I think. Unless Yankee, SuperT, Nate, and Skuzzy are making $95,000 a year which some bbs poster recently guessed. Then I say go ahead. With that kind of income, they pry do this as a hobby, and a favor to the players?

Post by: Revvin on August 17, 2003, 10:43:38 AM
My reason for posting this was to say goodbye to the friends I've made in AH some of which I've lost mail contacts or maybe did'nt have any contact info for them. I did'nt list any names here or try to mail as I'd inevitably forget someone's callsign as I've been here a few years now. The post was not to undermine HTC in any way and I wish them all the luck in the future hence the to them also, my cancellation will be filled by another 5 new subscribers such is the nature of online gaming. I doubt I will try AHII but I never rule out returning to any game I've played. I owe none of the companies whose sims I've played anything and they don't owe me anythign in return I'm just another customer. My reasons for leaving AH are numerous and I could have posted a long whine about how I felt but prefered to give a to my friends and HTC and simply say goodbye.

Take a little care?

Oh for gads sake, I was trying to be nice. OK, prod me.

Maybe instead of directing how I should respond to your leaving AH, perhaps you could have left an forwarding email and just left?

Maybe you missed my response in a thread talking about sympathy. You’ll find it not here, but between sh*t and syphilis in the dictionary.

I’m going to go fly a BF110 in the MA today to test it out and pry get demolished. But Im going to have fun doing it.  You?  You are going to refresh this thread all day, almost certainly looking for a response. Ill be flying AH and then watch the Michigan Nascar race. Maybe do both.

Not being a dramatized whiner, but a real salamander has its advantages.

Carry on.

I don't know, I read Creamo's post and thought there was nothing negative in it.
A lot of people come and go from here and good thing they don't all go the dramatic route of trolling for sorrowful goodbyes on here or else the servers might choke due to the traffic.  Interesting thing though, you mention you'll probably be back in a couple months anyway so it may all be moot anyway.  I'm sure for those who want to say goodbye to truly "good friends", they'd have more private means to contact them or else they aren't truly "good friends" but more aquaintances.  The trouble with posting publicly is you won't always get the response you are looking for.
When I do go from here, I'll reach out directly to those good friends of mine instead of trolling for specific responses on the BBS.

Revvin-

You've always been a good player and a class act. Take the high road and ignore the malcontents. I always said if something happened to my squad, I would apply to yours. Your a good leader, and I wish you luck in all you do. I certainly hope to see you back soon.

For $15 a month, i'll keep it going if I drop down to an hour a month as I think AH is the best entertainment value bang for the buck.

It cost $0.00 dollars to read and post on this board.  It could be reasonably argued that "Goodbye" posts are rather unnecessary in that context (which I think Creamo may have meant to say in so many words?).

Lazs.... I have always been surprised by the rude posts you make. You never make any attempts to be nice to someone. When you get a chance, you'll bite. You're every way I imagine the kid from school who always got bullied and is now taking revenge from behind a safe computer. It really makes me wonder who the person is behind that handle. I hope for you and your environment that you're a much nicer person than how you appear to me online.

What's all this online bashing of people you have never even seen face to face? It's pathetic and makes we wonder what kind of grumpy pale nerds these people here are. You know what creamo said? He said "I bet you're refreshing this thread the whole day".  While that sick bastard has like 2500 posts! That is sick!

Bah, I never really had much with the "community". And from what I'm seeing here I'm glad I never did. I dont wish to comment on that any further.

It's not just Revvin leaving. It's the entire squadron that is retiring WITH Revvin. If Revvin was out to make a drama, he would have posted that his whole squadron was leaving. Instead he kept it to himself and just said salute to old friends. I think that shows he's sincere when he says he's just saying bye to people he met online. Some people here prefer to send e-mails like someone here mentioned. That is fine, do that. But if someone prefers to do it this way, just respect it.

That is all.

Creamo, why is it unacceptable for someone to say goodbye to friends when they leave?

Every time one of these threads comes up, youre the first to notch an arrow.  And everytime you do, I try and determine why.

Now, I may not be the brightest guy in the world, but perhaps you might be able to help me understand your motivation, because from this angle, it looks like youre struggling with puberty or something of a similar nature.
Title: Time to leave
Post by: Puke on August 20, 2003, 02:25:23 AM
This thread is kind of funny.  Revvin posts a goodbye, Creamo interjects by basically saying 'you don't really need to go, you can hold your account and just take a break...especially if you think you'll be back in a few months for AH2" and then Revvin gets mad and now we have people poles apart duking it out in here.  Maybe I read it wrong, or maybe I understood it because I have minimal hours in the game lately... zero-hours the month of July in fact.  I guess if you want to quit and post goodbyes every time you take a vacation that's fine.
Seriously, good luck to Revvin in whatever he does.  Don't get so uptight when someone is actually trying to get you to stay.

If Revvin comes back for AH2 and then leaves again, do we get a 2nd goodbye?

As Barnum (or Lincoln or Somebody said), you can't please everyone all the time.

Sorry to lose good players, but agree with Eagler and Creamo sentiments that somehow Aces High is so good it deserves to be supported -- at least by True Believers -- even when not played as much.

I've been same way lately -- have not been playing much.  Don't know why.  Maybe it's the endless anticipation of II after all these months of no new toys.

Hardest thing for HiTech and crew is to keep excelling.  Every accomplishment becomes a new minimum expectation.  Just human nature, I guess.

At any rate, $15 a month for this global state of the art WWII combat flight simulator is reasonable tribute, in my opinion.  It would be a fantastic game even if it were just introduced as is, and its possibilities are still limited mostly by our own imaginations, not the game designers'.

It used to cost $13 an HOUR just to fly stick planes with the first version of Air Warrior via local long distance GEnie phone modem.  I always play at least a couple hours of Aces High every month -- such a bargain!

And this bulletin board is a terrific serendipitous resource of some of the finest (and sometimes bizarre) computer minds anywhere (e.g., early warning and advice on latest viruses).

So color me content -- but eagerly waiting for Aces High II like everyone else.

Good bad or indiffrent the MA is so diverse it makes the bar scene in Star Wars look like an IBM managment seminar.Still its never a good thing to see people leave the game due to unhappiness with the game.Granted its never going to be a "Be all" to everyone, but neither was Air Warrior.Air Warrior just had a great friendly community.Something AH is sadly lacking.

I think people should never post goodbye threads.  This kinda of thing happens in almost everyone of them.  Instead post a "Well I think I'm gonna take a break" thread.  That way if you do decide to come back after awhile you don't get the "I thought you quit" BS and you don't get the "Dont let the door hit you in the ass" comments either.
