Post by: T0J0 on August 17, 2003, 04:01:08 PM
For those over the hill types who like slow strategy turn based games, Empire has been upgraded to support 6 player over IP... and it actually works good...
Also Perfect general is being re-released...

Rock On TOJO!

Empire is the game that made me buy my first computer back in 1988. Before Civ there was Empire, and it still delivers all the military combat aspect better, IMO. Just reloaded Empire Delux (old, standard 1996 windows version) on one of my machines.

Quote
Empire is a simulation of a global conflict between two to three implacable foes. No compromise is possible, each must strive to annihilate the other. The war is conducted over a large map, with land, sea and cities on it. Each player manipulates his armies, fighters and ships to try and smash the others, to reach the goal of total domination of the world. Empire is not a video arcade-type game. It is a thinking man's game, as it requires strategy and tactics instead of hand-eye coordination.

IMO the best computer strategy game ever, in the same way Doom is the best shooter. More modern games with better bells and whistles, etc. but it was a milestone. Devorak noted that he had to remove it from his hard drive back in the day to get any work done. I remember a few 18-hour gaming sessions where I had no idea a day had passed. It stilll holds up today.

I remember this game from when I was active duty in the Navy.  A friend and I played it non-stop for months.  What really got me about the game is the address, WEBSTER,TX which is close to where I grew up and is now where I live.  Really like this game, and I agree about it being a classic.
