Not to dance on anyone's grave or anything, but...
Dood... that camera could easily be mistaken for an RPG or some other shoulder fired weapon.

This just in... those soldiers over there in Iraq... they aren't playin'.

yeah sad.
they should paint their cameras orange imo :(

However it's funny how reporters are relative often shot by these 'westerners' when compared to the opposing sides..
Like I've kept Israelis pretty notorious for managing to shoot all the reporters around area of the head.
Poor yanks are second to israelis - managed to shoot the journalist only in the chest.

Geez what an Idiot:rolleyes:

Never seen sarcasm, haven't you?

we were trained to aim center mass.
aim small miss small

Brilliant idea, see a tank, know that the locals have been shooting at the soldiers with shoulder fired weapons, so jump out of your vehicle and point a large shoulder mounted black object at the tank.
-
I think it is sad that this cameraman lost his life due to a mistake, and I allso understand that cameramen have a very valid reason to be in combat zones.....but hey, combat zones are dangerous places, particularly if you are carrying something in a manner that could easily be mistaken for a shoulder launched weapon, a fact I am certain Mr Dana was well aware of.
OIO has it right in my opinion, noncombatants like civilian news crews should dress in dayglo pink, with flouro orange equipment while in combat zones, and certainly while filming armour.
Or for that matter, just orange pants and a white shirt, or any other highly visible combination that no soldier in his right mind would contemplate wearing in the field.
Green shirt and dark blue flak jacket just doesnt make sense.
If my life, and those of my crew, plus the operational effectiveness of the armoured vehicle I was in command of, rested on a split second decision as to weather that in fact was a camera, or an RPG, or some other form of shoulder launched anti-armour weapon, I would have fired, and thats what I think sitting behind a computer, safe in my home. The guy in charge of that tank is on operational deployment in a country his army has recently invaded, and which is commonly known to not be all that friendly.
Considering the amount of RPG attacks in Iraq in recent months, it is very easy to see how this could happen, and allthough it truely is an unfortunate, and sad mistake, costing the life of a civilian, I hope the repercussions on the tank crew arent too severe.
Mr Dana died doing a job he obviously enjoyed, or at least had a strong passion for, what more could any of us really ask for.

As opposed to Finland?
Oh wait, they don't help.
-
I'm not sure what do you think that qualifies as helping, but attacking countries with main reasons based on yet-to-be-proven things, doesn't qualify as helping for me.
-
Why don't those handsomehunkes by some Sony Mini DVs.
Its less of a case of the Camera looking like an RPG than (http://www.army-technology.com/projects/javelin/images/jav2.jpg)
Smile you're on candid camera!

Ahhh, I forgot the US let you in on what was a "main" reason and what was a "minor" reason.
There isn't anything Finland could do to help. You're broke, and our girl scouts are tougher than your military. Rather than admit you can't help, it's much easier to sit on the sidelines and denounce every conflict.

<--- looks at watch, waiting for obligatory story of how Finnish Sopwith Camels fought off hordes of Mig-21's.
-
<--- Stares in wonderment, trying to figure out why anyone even pays attention to what Fishu blathers on about anymore.
-
Well, put some Finns into 109G2s and you'll see those Migs running!

Yes Fishu Amreeka is the Great Satan....

Person was killed....he had children and a wife and a family...a little respect and condolences are called for - you should be ashamed of yourselves.
If it was an American that was killed or worse an American serviceman and someone made the statements I've been reading you'd all be bleating and whining and saying what a disgrace it all was.
Get some perspective and behave like civilized adults.

Not quite he asked if he could be there, was told he could, was amongst a group of journalists, got shot, no gunfight - someone made a mistake and killed an innocent man who did a dangerous job and did it well.

Well. Schade, ole buddy, if there was an in-depth news story about every American or British, or Polish, or other combatant that's been killed, then maybe it wouldn't be so disgusting to see such a big splash about a journalist getting killed in a combat zone.
-
They shot and killed him because he was a Palestinian. And we all know all Palestinians are terrorists or terrorist sympathizers who love Arafat, burn American flags during their lunch breaks, vote Democrat, drink French wine, smoke marijuana, and watch obscene pornography. Scratch one towelhead!
-
Damn Erl, that stinks! Get some fresh bait from outta tha cooler, hopefully it'll do better!

mmm that's not the point - however you're absolutely right in that soldiers being killed in Iraq are not a big deal to the media, well maybe the USA media, it's as if people have become used to the fact and it's an accepted part of life which to me is pretty bad.
However with everything that has gone on all the lies and half truths and smoke screens and all the killing and flag waving can you actually say that you believe everything you've been told about Iraq and the reason for the war? Bigger than that however is do you feel more or less safe from acts of terror in your own country?
I hope everyone who has the right to vote thinks about those things and goes and votes on the day.
Here's my look into the crystal ball for the future.
1. America will be hit by a major terrorist attack before the next election.
2. George Bush will lose the next election.
3. America will pull out of Iraq within 6 months of the next election.

no matter how you put it a rpg looks nothing at all like a beta cam.
if you trigger when you arent shure your a murderer. its that simple.
-
LDV, I'm sorry, but that is perhaps the dumbest load of dookie that you have ever posted. Pathetic doesn't begin to describe that statement.

First, as to safety, well, sir, I know the answer but can't tell foreigners! :D
Second, as to your crystal ball, it seems to be busted because it is obviously reflecting only your sick wishful thinking.
:D
Best of luck to ya, though!.

lol Syz, you are the master of tact.
all I could come up with is STFU loser...
lol

no it's not wishful thinking - if terrorists wanted to have an effect on USA what more of effect could they have than playing a part in Bush losing his office.
I think there will be another attack and more after that - I mean it took nearly 30 years of terrorist attacks in the UK by Irish Nationalists before everyone agreed to a ceasefire and started talking to one another - the Ira btw never had more than a few 100 active members at any time.
I didn't think that at the time invading Iraq was the answer to terrorism and still don't - more money and more resources given to the intelligence community and asking why terrorism against the USA takes place is the answer.
Whatever happens the next election is going to be pretty interesting.

Well, tell us, oh wise one, what will happen with the British "elections"!
And if you are comparing the Northern Ireland terrorism situation to fundmentalist muslim terrorism (which by the way isn't an "American" problem it's a "World" problem), you don't know much about either.
