Totally agree on the Civ series and also the X-Com series of games that came out mid 90's. Oh and of course the original Elite.
...-Gixer
-Hells Angels-

Civ III just frustrates me. Its so annoying when a guy with a bow and arrow or musketman defeats my tank or modern infatry. I usually just quit the game after that happens.

I thought Civ:Call to power was better than plain old Civ.

Doom was far and away better than Quake. The first Quake tried to be Doom in 3D, and failed. Quake ][ was better, but still not up to Doom's excitement nor did it have the edge of the seat and pushing off from the desk surprises of Doom. I spent hours every day in single player.
Oh, it's lets not forget those snickering Imps. You could hear them some minor distance away, but usually never saw them until you rounded the corner, and they were in your face!
I personally vote Doom as *the* computer game of the 20th century.

Doom was indeed a great game. Had forgotten about it :) I also liked Duke Nukem 3D, more than Quake (they both came out around the same time).
Quake was great in multiplayer. So was Descent. We used to play them during computer class in highschool :)

Wow, the PC was first coming out when I was graduating from highschool. I think it was up to the IBM XT, a full 8.77Mhz of pure computing power all contained in a 8088.
The 6502 was an alternative and Apples, Ataris, and C-64s made use of them.
Sheesh, you just made me feel real old. fugger;)
-
X-COM was an awesome series... I always wished they had made a multiplayer game like it.. for the fights anyway. The aliens were to stupid to be much fun after the first few fights.

I remember them. At least, I remember their most famous game, that started a whole genre and evolved into more cinematic versions.

I Played all the Zork's 'till they started adding graphics. Great games. I got hooked on Infocom's text games with "Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy" because I loved those books and once I started playing the games I bought almost everything they sold. Some were good, some were junk but how can anyone say no to a game with a title like "Leather Goddess of Phobos"?
Especially when it had rubber tubing, lubricant and a llama . . . or was it a yak? I forget.

Oh, and when I first bought a PC I got hooked on Strip Poker. Maybe that's why I'm so lucky at poker, come to think of it :)
