I had a blast. I had no problems getting in close and identifying cons. The sense of immersion was awsome. Wondering if we could go Icons off for a week...for the hell of it. Any in-favor of it ??
-
Works in FA but the planes there seem to have been enlarged....perhaps icons visible from 1000 ft would be a compromise?
-
Whats FA ?? Fighter Ace ?? is that any good??
-
mm very good graphics - take a look in the screenshots I posted some there but for the most part it has a simplified flight model and although there is a realistic level it's not very popular in the game.

You'll notice no icons are visible....
-
I'd try it without icons... maybe leave the radar on, tho.
-
on the high levels there is no radar, no icons and no ranges either...quite tough....
-
what type of numbers do they get in the full real??
-
lol 15 to 20 if you're really lucky....about 120 in the crayon rooms.
-
I tried the icons off once, just once...

" I had no problems getting in close and identifying cons. The sense of immersion was awsome. "
I had them off last night (accidently) when I first logged in and found the experience to be the opposite. Everything was a gray/black indistinguishable plane "form" when 2K to 5k away and beyond that it was a mere black dot. In RL I'd have a much easier time positively IDing something close and I would have been able to determine at least the overall color at those things that got further away. Instead in AH you get , dot, a larger but still unrecognizable form and finally when very VERY close in you get a real shape and artwork.
I have an AMD 2400+, WIN98SE, a GForce2 GTS 64mb and a 19 monitor with .28dpi. Desktop and AH is set for 1024X768 and 32bit. I'm curious what size and DPI your monitor is and also what graphics card and resolution you play with?
I would much rather fight in an iconless environment. But for me to do so right now it makes AH even more unrealistic than when they are on.

it helps if the "no-icon" setting is not a surprise - you are not sitting there waiting for the icon to pop in while he hoses you from 700d :)
I fly 1280x1024 32bit. the 19" sony is at least .28 maybe .26. I get 90fps most of the time (refresh limit- vsync on) see sig for specs.
I enjoy the no icons. Some maps make it extremely easy to lose a con. You are at a serious disadvantage if you are the only one iconless :)
i have asked for a week/day with no icons setup in CT but have been told no way

CT CM's can't turn off icons.
A bit of history.
The icon issue and the desire to have more options was a request of mine when I first became a CM over 3 years ago. Once I started the Snapshots I asked for a no icon option several times. Then I started the TOD’s and the desire to have some night time bomber raids over Europe, but needed the no icon option. Even as the head CM for a year I requested them several times. Once pyro seemed close to agreeing with our request for a couple more icon options, but they never happened. I am not sure he was ever convinced. Currently we only have two, long and short. Near the end of my term as head CM I pressed the issue and pyro passed me to hitech who explained with his good reasons there was not going to be any other icon options. That was about 6 months ago. I don’t remember if he said indefinitely or not, but don’t get your hopes up, but I always requested something like…
Options:
Icons off
Range only
1k enemy and 3k friendly
I think those three above coupled with our current long and short options would have suited all types of events and arena’s for a very long time. :) IMHO. ;)

The point, different to eg Forgotten Battles, is the not existing rolling plane set. U cant decide if that spit is friendly or enemy.
In Hyperlobby i know when i see a german plane, Shot it down. In Aces High all countrys flying the same planes soooooo icons are a must in my opinion.

Edit: ups i just saw wrong forum :)

Hi,
I had several Friendly Icons Only h2h-session with my Finnish friends (MA/CT/SEA pilots) and it was real blast. We use FinRus-map with FinRus planeset.
I really hope that the AH2 bring more icon options for the host.
-
its only an issue for stand-in planes in the CT. It's really fun to turn icon's off in the CT. I'm glad Im not the only one that thinks that.
-
I always fly with no icons or friendly icons only in the CT. It depends on the plane set.
-
if friendly only could be set for everyone that would be a great comprise.
