in otherwords, anything 10+ minutes in length.
My contribution:
Pink Floyd - Shine on you crazy diamond
Iron Butterfly - Innagaddadavida
-
maybe.... for sure tho... the two worst are... freebird and stairway to heaven.

It's only about 9 minutes... but gotta throw "Bye Bye Miss American Pie" into that one. Pontiac did a pretty good commercial where a guy was sitting in his car waiting for the end of that song (singing along) while his girlfriend was outside waiting for him to get out of the car.
Another one I personally hate that I like is "Alice's Resteraunt".
One that I do like, though technically it's two songs: "Broone's Bane/Trees" by RUSH.
Hehehe... and Technically, Side 1 of 2112 is all one song.

how long is the Rain Song (zep)..
-
Not quite 10 minutes, but the greatest song of all time is Kashmir by Zeppelin.

In order to honor those annoying songs, Dash Rip Rock created "Stairway to Freebird".
-
"Pieksamäen asemalla blues" by Juise Leskinen & Grand slam. About 18min
:D
-
Innagaddadavida was the 1st one i thought of when i read the title of post.
-
Pink Floyd, "Dogs".
...And after a while, you can work on points for style
Like the club tie, and the firm handshake
A certain look in the eye, and an easy smile
You have to be trusted by the people that you lie to
So that when they turn their backs on you
You'll get the chance to put the knife in...

These songs have also been known to cause bartenders to hop over the bar and unplug the jukebox.

- Take a Pebble - Emerson Lake & Palmer
-
Dream Theater - A Change Of Seasons
Pink Floyd - Time, Wish You Were Here, Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Parts 1-9)

Misty tales and poems lost
All the bliss and beauty will be gone
Will my weary soul find release for a while
At the moment of death I will smile
It's the triumph of shame and disease
In the end Iliad

Pink Floyd-Echoes
BB KIng-Lucille

A great song!
The Beatles: Abbey Road
Song: I Want You(She's So Heavy)
Song time: 7 min 42s
-
On the Ambient tip: "Thursday Afternoon" by Brian Eno is strange and wonderful - and is probably one of the longest tracks ever at 61 minutes - DJs who like a long dinner break take note. :)
On the Blues Tip: "Season of the Witch" by Al Kooper, Mike Bloomfield and Steven Stills.
On the Dance tip: Pretty much anything with 180-220 bpm'll do, really :) However... "The Hangar" by Eat Static is extremely frenetic, "Blue Room" by the Orb and Aphex Twin's stuff needs mentioning.
On the Goth tip: "Bela Lugosi's Dead" by Bauhaus (I think the live 12" version weighs in at over 10mins).
On the Hip hop tip: "Rapper's Delight" by the Sugarhill Gang.
On the Jazz tip: "B*tches Brew" by Miles Davis is grand as is his "In A Silent Way". "Nighthawk Postcards (From Easy Street)" by Tom Waits is a wild and wooly story with a great jazz backing.
On the Psychedelic t(r)ip: "Voyage 34" or "Moonloop" by the Porcupine Tree. "Jurrasic Shift" by the Ozric Tentacles also needs a mention .
On the Rock tip: 2 tracks - (but they do segue and the first is over 10mins) - "1983... (A merman I should turn to be)" and "Moon, Turn The Tides... gently gently away" by the good old Himi Jendrix Interference.
-
Pink Floyd- Echos Good song but dont bother unless you got 24 minutes to spare.
-
I would definately have to throw my vote on "Alice's Restaurant"
-
Always liked the Allman Brothers Eat a Peach album. Mountain Jam was about 33 mins.
-

I was in Radio for a few years after I got out of the CG in the 80's. Went to Tech School and got my FCC 1st Class RTO license(at the time you HAD to have one, now anybody can). I was on WFAA-AM 570 (now KLIF), KLIF-AM 1190 (now 570), KDNT-AM-FM (now Kiss-FM)in the Dallas area, KYOT-FM 106.3 in Corpus Christi and finally KWCS-FM 96.7 (now The Twister) in Ft.Worth area. Radio is not the Big Bucks Celebrity Fest most people think. I did get to meet my share of singers, bands, ect..., but most of it was long boring hours at the very low end of the pay scale. If you are not Morning Drive on a Top 5 station in a Top 10 market you will starve. I made more money as a freelance news stringer for a Dallas TV station than I ever did on the air.

Meatloaf...
Paradise by the dashboard light...
-
Kraftwerk - Autobahn (21 min.)
-
Do You Really Want to Hurt Me - the disco version
-
2 classics:
Jimi Hendrix - Machine gun
Bob Marley - No Woman No Cry
-
I'll go with Machine Gun as well, but that whole Band of Gypsies album is great. Hendrix was on that night; it sounds like he's channeling notes & sounds from a different plane of existance. Its my favorite live album.
-
Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb (9:54)
Ted Nugent - Strangehold (8:23)
Guns N Roses - November Rain (8:57)

-
In Memory of Elizabeth Reed......Dickey Betts kicks ass.

LeadBelly- Looky, Looky Yonder/Black Betty/Yellow Women's Daughter
Shine on you Crazy Diamond probably my favorite though
-
man, after seeing ozzy sing that at wrigley, any good tunes he was involved with (and I consider warpigs among those) should be revoked. I'm sorry: you're a professional. can't you get at least a sheet with the lyrics?
BTW: only four years college radio here. Never desired to go to "the majors". But I do have a tape of a show one week after the release of "bleach" in which I advised all listeners to "go out and buy that album".
I forgot to ask that they then send such albums to me "for safekeeping".
Not that anyone was listening.
-
Ok....Since you asked

Maggot Brain - Funkadelic 10:18 (George Clinton, Eddie Hazel)
These, because y'all stole all my good Floyd picks damnit!
Oh yes, I really only like country music, but allow myself to listen to any good artist from any genre. Sadly, there aren't any country songs 10 minutes long that I can think of off the top of my head . . .

Red Headed Stranger - Willie Nelson

King Crimson - Too many to list
Stevie Ray Vaughan - Texasflood "Live from the El Mocambo", if you haven't seen this, point-to-point dl it and be prepared to be educated.
-
Well, Beethovens 9th definitely needs to be near the top of the list, as does Benny Goodman's arrangement of the combined "Christopher Columbus" and "Sing Sing Sing" (Gene Krupa may not have had the depth and soul of, say, Philly Joe Jones, but he could swing).

Golden Country

How could I forget!
"Suppers Ready" - Genesis (20 min. +) Incredible!

This is gonna be nitpicky, but since you went against the rolling norm in the thread:)
Isn't it "Ride of the Valkrye?"
I also like the 1812 overture. Mozart also has some very good symphonies out there.
-
George Benson - On Broadway, Live version 9:50
-
Bela Lugosi's Dead - Bauhaus, The Final Concert, 9:46
A Forest - The Cure, Show (video), 13:07 (of course, there is the live version I have on mp3 that is 16:54, but the version from the Show video is a better quality recording)
-
Any of Alan Parsons tracks.

Disregarding time limits, categories, racial, sexual, and religious preferences, the best song out there is the one that gets you off your bellybutton and up on your feet.
I knew a man who was brought ectasy by G-love, and when I listen I didn't see it. But then I like ABBA, Heart, Black Sabbath, and Mozart.
