Title: no goony bird captures
Post by: Furious on August 20, 2003, 11:42:11 AM
Just a thought...

In addition to requiring 10 troops in the maproom for capture,  why not allow 10 planes parked on the runway at once for 30 sec-1 min to capture as well?

If you can do this you have proven you own the field and we can all get on to the next fight.

I'm all for it.  It would give new meaning to flying an Me262 low and fast looking for goons... now I could make a pass down the runway occasionally too.

No.

As it stands, there are only 2 things in the game a fighter plane cannot do.

Supply and capture bases.

The Troop transport function is the one vital role that those of us who suck at flying fighters can provide to our country.

Don't take that away.

Where's the difference of flying a fighter to a capped field to land it or fly in a goon? Actually it's much easier in a fighter than a goon, so someone who cannot do anything good in a fighter using it as a fighter can still use it to land enemy fields.

We should also have ammo and fuel power-ups floating above enemy bases.  Also, when you kill a plane, there should be a floating icon where the plane was when you killed it with the ammo it was carrying and maybe a thing for bonus points that you fly through.

And there should be arches in the middle of a base you can fly through in the correct order to get twin wing blasters.

Then you'll just start getting complaints about the people who are stealing ammo and bonus points from the people who are actually doing the killing....

Oh, and there should also be turbo-boost powerups that make you go real fast for 10 seconds, that would be cool.  That, and maybe a 'mega-bomb' powerup where you fly through it, and then the next time you hit secondary fire, it destroys all airplanes within one mile of you.  All of these would definately help make the game better just as much as the original suggestion about fighters capturing fields.

You might think that capturing fields by landing fighters is completely gamey. It is not. It was actually done that way in the pacitic at least once.

I say if you can fart in a tuba to the tune of "Cheers", the field is yours.

Still need the C47 to bring the tuba!

I say not land...

BAIL, if 10 players can bail and run to map room give them the capture...  (so long as everuthing is down of course)

Hell not a bad idea..  just think of the fun you could have tryin to strafe them.

I would be happy if HTC just increased the map room hardness to force a least 2 goons to achieve a capture..............

one goon / M3 / LVT2 to capture is a bit lame IMO.

Also drunks should refuse to jump if the AoA is above / below certain criteria         (sort of C47 version of F6 puts you in the jump door with the greenlight flashing)

Post by: FireOf59 on September 01, 2003, 12:44:16 PM
IMHO, Base capturing works great as is. Leave it alone.

In CT last night, it took 3 M3's to capture a field, since a 109 we couldnt seem to get rid of would strafe and kill many of them as soon as they were released or get the M3 before it got all the way into town....

And you should have preped the day before by eating nothing but beans!

Beans, Beans, the musical fruit
the more you eat, the more bases you capture:p
so eat beans for every meal.:D

I can just see it now.
"PFFFFTHATT!! "

"Damn they captured A5!  More Beans men, lets get it back!"

Would make a drive to capture bases litterally run out of GAS!

sorry but the army has all the beans  right now...you cant be doing that

Yes you are right, I stand corrected.  The army has all the beans and eats them quite regularly.  That is why I keep that door on the Goon open as soon as I spawn one "PFHEW!!! The smoking lamp is out, don't want to explode on the way to capture a base":D

This reminds of something involving troops.  I dropped ordinance and strafed until the last moment in attempt to kill troops. I know I got one with 50 cals but the rest were in the crater when I looked back, running along as before.

Base capturing is great the way it is BUT...we could do without the titanium skinned cyborg troops. 2 1k bombs should be enough to take out the entire lot!
