Stella.

If you wanna get real fancy, Stella Arr-twaa.

At least that's how they said it when I was on the other side of the pond.

Why don't you  open the bottle ?

I think it's a lager so it's probably mild to light compared to the belgian beer I drink usualy
go ahead and tell us !

They also let crap in the air  float in from the outside to ferment their beers too!

Back in the UK it is known as "Wife Beater"

as in
"I'll have a couple of pints of the old wife beater, love"

I've been drinking it for years and never knew that until this last weekend, when I was informed by the girl I was with what exactly it was called. It's great for a summer drink at BBQs - I always bring at least a crate whereever I go.

Americans have no business calling any non-American beer "piss". With the exception of microbrews, some of which are very good indeed, all American beer is piss.

You're giving piss a bad name Beet1e. I sometimes use Anheuser-Busch Budweiser as a subsitute urine to pass my piss tests at work, and they've never noticed the difference yet.

Mind you, British lager (foreign lager brewed under licence) isn't a great deal better, i.e Heineken. What saves us are our traditional breweries producing fantastic ales - and leave the lager to the continentals, who do it much better IMO.

Chimay is the tops, especially White Chimay. I used to work in a beer warehouse and in the summer the magnums of Chimay (1.5l) would explode, showering me in beer! I loved that job, mostly because I got paid in beer - Did you know that Nigerian Guinness is 11% abv?

The belgians are without a doubt the best beer makers in the world when you consider range, quality, quantity and taste. Last time I looked this wonderful country was producing moret than 500 different beers, from Framboise and Kriek to Chimay and Duvel (or is that Dutch?)

LOL Bounder!  Glad you showed up - reminded me that the best pint I've had this year was at the Falcon at Arnecliffe, Yorkshire Dales.

ra, I think schad was slightly mistaken, or maybe it was a joke I didn't understand. The fruit beers are generally about 3%. Going out for beer in Belgium is like going for a meal. You get given a menu, and you order a beer. Then you order another one! But whereas during a meal, you might have a sorbet between courses to cleanse the palate, the equivalent on a Belgian beer evening is a fruit beer! Remember, the "real" beers are much stronger than in other parts of the world. Some are 12% or even higher - way too strong for me! I don't like to go much above 5%.

Of the fruit beers, I have had strawberry, lemon, peach, cherry (kriek - mentioned earlier), and my favourite of all the fruit beers - blackcurrant. This is not an exhaustive list of fruit beers. There are others.

I drank it. It was good.

The taste reminded me of Heineken, but 25% better.

Still no better than Bass Pale Ale - best mass produced beer ever.

I will post my hotel details later when I get home. You can call and leave a message or catch me when I get in the first day.

I am not going to have a moble this trip. I had one last time and it did not work to well.

I like travelling light to Germany and filling up my bag with lots of interesting beer to take home. Cans of course.

:D

I am staying at a place called the Hotel Servatius in Koln-Marheim. Address is Servatiusstr. 73; 51109 Koln. Telephone for it is 0221-890030. I arrive 30  Aug and check out on the 2 Sept early.

They have me listed under the name Todd. Just Todd. I don't know why as I emailed my complete name.

Anyone here live in Guangzhou China? I am there from 27 Aug to 29 Aug.

Cool sidenote. Because I basically have to fly all around the world for this trip (leave Canada to Hong Kong via the pacific then on to Dubai and Germany via London and finally back to Canada via the Atlantic) I will be spending something like 60 hours in planes. I have travelled enough to know that infight movies and food are pretty lame after 3 or 4 hours in the air so I decided to buy some inflight entertainment. I have a few books and aviation magazines to read, but I should be done them well before my flying is over.

So today I bought a small Koss CD player and headphones and was looking for some music CD's to play when I found a "book" on CD. It is the latest Harry Potter book (I like the series as light reading) and the best part is it is 23 hours long. I listened to the first 5 minutes and it is a great reading by a English accented narrator. So now I can dig into my own supply of inflight snacks close my eyes and listen to the book whenever I get to bored out of my scull.

I am flying on 5 airlines for the trip (Cathay Pacific, Lufthansa, China Southern, Emerates Airlines, and Air Canada), I will post my impressions of each when I get back.

I purposly avoided any American airline this time as I have not been comfortable reading about the attempts to bring one down by SAM and other means recently.
