The icons don't show up if your aircraft is hidden by the cockpit framing or wing or nose ect, ect.

Looking at your six and being able to "see" the tail of may plane is different than looking at your six and "seeing" a pair of pixels of my plane and a big red icon over them.

Hmm I'm not sure if this is a good idea or not but it sounds very very interesting. It's worth a try.

If icons aren't there in some certain situations you can disable them completely.

I asked for this years ago even drew a pic of a p51 with icon below it looked good to me and much more strategically placed

for christs sake how do we read?

top to bottom and if you see the plane on top you read it first then read the icon its etched in out brains and its how we process information and HTC has made the airplane the last thing we read on a subconcious level by placing the icon on top so most dont even see the airplane as their primary target, they target the icon and track it and read it as what they see first. watching the airplane is almost an afterthough and ussually done last.

You have my Vote.

Spotting planes is not a passive activity IRL.  You have to hunt for them.  Closure rate and rate of travel are not always immediately apparent either.

"It's a game... its a game... " I know, just have to keep reminding myself.

Putting the icons beneath would at least make me look at the plane first.

If you fly upside down then the icon will be on the bottom....LOL.....
