Decided to rebuild my gaming rig and wife's machine. Switch harddrives and stuff like that. Now i'm in the world of crap
My PC: won't boot. Floppy with bootdisk is not recognized shows:
Disk I/O error
Replace the disk, and then press any key.
Same floppy works in other machines just fine.
I replaced the floppy drives, still same thing.
I'm thinking about doing cables next. After that it's MB
I disconnectted all the other drives, HD and CDs, still same thing.
Bios boot order is set fine.
I reversed the IDE cable for floppy ( i've been known to have it reversed in the past ) but it didn't help either.
I'm fricking lost Any ideas ?
Wife's PC:
Booted up fine. But while loading XP ( booted 98 disk with CD support and started winnt in i386 directory on CD ) it failes while copying files. Just stops.
I tried copying files via xcopy but it failed as well. Two different CDs. Copying took forever and doing dir /s on CD is much faster then HD, which is weird. I'm running scandisk on it now to check out the HD, i'm starting to think that it's failing on me.
This HD was reformatted fully , fdisk and whole 9.
Can't get XP to install and HD performance is dismal.
Any suggestions would be greatly appriciated.

update. Looks like Windows XP install does not like nVidia cards. Swapped to Matrox and are rolling now. I might be ok after all. Floppy still shot but i can do without it once setup starts.
