I found a house.
Really excited about moving out of the condominium I'm currently in and finally being able to have my children run around without worrying about noise downstairs.
Houses here are numbered as to street address, as you can see from the shots of the front, but more importantly from a postal perspective they need to know the "name" of the house.
The name it now has means "Aviary" (translated from the Spanish)..like a "birdhouse"...which is apt given that Geoffrey Bird is the former owner. :)
I have given it a name...one I really like. Swoop called me a "nerd" when I told him what it was.
Outside front Gate:

Just inside front gate:

Looking down and to right from walkway to front door...very castle like..or fortress-like...hint hint

More if interested.

I could tell Dicky was a good guy and all, but he gave you his house? ;) How'd that one come about?
Beautiful place, congrats.
-
You named it Wolfenstein? or "The Death StarHouse" :)
-
Looks beautiful, I wish you and your family good health, happiness and long lives in it.
dago
-
Does it have an ocean view? Kinda looks like it through some of the trees there.
MiniD

Curv, I didn't call you a nerd.
I called you a NEEEEEERRRRRRD!
But I do like the house

You're not thinking nerdy enough.

Look at the thread title.
And think real nerdy.

No he didn't "give" it to anyone.
It was a complicated arrangement between Dickey and an interested 3rd party entity. A deal that, once the dust settles, will be mutually beneficial to all parties.
:)
One thing is for sure. My wife doesn't complain nearly as much about my flying time. My sister shook her head and said "You ALWAYS land on your feet.....I thought that flying game was just a big waste of time and effort. It actually paid off for you, I'm impressed."
:D
As far as the name goes...Swoop would probably want me to call it Ganja Gardens, or something...and then he'd want to turn it into that. ;)
Fortress is more of a hint than Castle is...I must say.
The "other" name I was thinking about is funny if you know what movie I was thinking of:
Elsinor.
:D
No Ocean view..but there is a Ferry Stop right at the end of the street, the ocean is that close. I will be getting to work via ferry from the moment I move in.
The house is over 100 years old, but Dickey put alot of work and money into upgrading it, because he planned on living there. (inside walls are up to 15 inches of solid concrete...I fear not any hurricane less than category 4). He then got the opportunity to buy the place he lives in now which is UNBELIVEABLE. He wants me to buy THAT from him in five years, but it is too big. It used to be the home of the governor who had eight full time staff!!

Excellent! Now the wife really wants to go to Bermuda! :D Say, that bathroom shot...I think you'll be able to utilize that second toilet, as it seems someones always on your donut in Aces High! ;)
Hopefully the water is heated so its not too much of a shock on your backside! :p

Sigh...I'm never going to hear the end of that one.
:(
Gotta love the extra "toilet". ;)
Rude..will do. I think we will hold off for a bit. Stress levels are kinda high right now trying to move and get my old place rented for the new owners.
We have now started haggling over the "small stuff" - airconditioners, blinds, screen doors etc. I have ALOT to do in a very short time.

Means nothing to me. Must be from a game I don't play. What's the relevance?
-
The people of Rohan fought the Orcs under Saurauman from their fortress called Helms Deep.
The Lord of the Rings.

Helm's Deep - Great Name!!
NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRR RDDDDDDD!!!
(beautiful house btw.... looks more like Minas Tirith though)
:D

Why do I get the feeling that there was something less than above-board involved in this transaction?

I like to see old homes renovated and restored to their potential. Its like an archeological study of recent history. Here in Florida, most of the homes built in the 40's and 50's are bulldozed down and replaced with "McMansions" because (a) the land is worth more than the house and (b) insurance on a small 2 bedroom/1 bath built in the '40s is more difficult to find than it is for a 3/2 built in the New Millenium. :(

its a beauty Curval....congrats :)

Nothing was done "below-board" at all.
The details just don't concern anyone else except the parties involved.

It involves rum, certain quantities of white power and a boat called "The black swan". And a parrot. And on the 3rd sunday of every month, a dog called Harold.

"Helm's Deep Target" ?? :D
Just kidding! I hope you don't take offense to our (http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/images/smilies/stickpoke.gif) you about the gun range.
-
:D Of course he doesn't. Missing the target is better than shooting blanks ;) ;) ;).

lol...don't even joke about white powder and boats.
NOTHING like that was involved...and never would be.

That's right. Since the USCG siezed 2 tons of cocain over the weekend, the cartels have lost their shipping. Nowadays its just some basic "foreign investing" and offshore bank accounts. ;)
-
Wow Curval! thats a damn nice looking home. Congrats on the purchase.
-
Nice!
-
I'm sure Rip will help you out when it comes to carpetting the garage :) ;)
Nerd huh? LOL....you can have my crown...my R2 D2 is coming along nicely, thank you :p

You will need to put a zero on the end of that figure before you could even think about it.
Homes here are separated between ones available for locals only and those available for non-Bermudians.
Condos start at about 700k for those that a non-local could buy. Houses start at 1M in that case, but even 1M would be iffy. Probably 2M is the cheapest you would pay.
That is the purchase price.
Then you would pay 22.75% duty to the govt for the priviledge of owning here.
It is why we only get guys like Bloomberg or Perot buying here.
Now, Bermuda is not a Carribean island, so I can't comment on those islands.
lol Box.

Curval that Rocks !!!
wtg man!
make sure those jet skis are tuned up by next year
though ok? :)

Look forward in the future to a handsome Puertorican making a beer siege on Helm's Deep.

Beautiful home Curval. Congratulations!

My wife will be thrilled. ;)
What she doesn't realise is that you look more Orcish than Rican. :p
-
I'm telling dude !!!
that is unless I get the FAST jet ski ! :)
-
WTG Curval.. please post more.
-
Thanks all...I really can't wait to move in.
Dickey actually had plans for a pool to go in at the front of the house. The design shows the pool running underneath the walkway which leads to the front door. Really interesting and stunning design which will give the front an even greater "moat" feeling. He has estimated a cost of over 100k to put it in..and the plans actually cost 11k to have done.
He handed me the plans free of charge.
He also had planning permission to build it which now goes to me.
Of course I don't have the 100k for the pool now, but it is definately something to work towards.
-
Wlfgng...I rent jetskis..I don't own them. Boat and jet-skis are "holes in the water" into which you pour money. It costs me $100 to rent a ski for an hour...expensive...maybe...bu t when I'm done I hand it back to the rental place and never have to give it another thought.
Some friends of mine bought a boat. They claim that the word actually is an acronym for Break Out Another Thousand.:D
-
Curval,
WTG! Congratulations and Good Luck!!
I would have thought you'd have named it Super Jizz's Money Shot :D
-
LMAO !!! I totally agree..especially in salt water !
-
Very nice house curval... congrats. Hope you and your family are very happy in it.

You know, the more I look at that house, the more I get images of 17th century fighting ships, Maureen O'Hara in a low-cut gown, and Erroll Flynn with a sabre clenched in his teeth. I gotta admit - its a well-preserved/restored residence with fantastic landscaping. A pool would be nice, but would it cockle-up the overall design?
Could use a few cannons scattered about, too.

hehe true Gofaster...I could dedicate it to my great-great-great Granfather, Captain Cooper.
He was a privateer...polite name for Pirate.
I could call the house,
HARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!
:D
-
Curval ... WOW ... Very Nice !!! Congrats and Good Luck.
You must break (out) a bottle of that rum on the house for luck.
I liked the pictures of the guest quarters ... now show us the pictures of the main house ... :D

How did you know about that? Or did you?
It is like a 200 year old tradition here to pour a bottle of rum on the roof of a newly constructed house. The party is called a "Roof Wetting."
Seriously.
In my case I may do it even though it isn't a new construct....good idea man.
Party at my place!
-
I am a logical man ... great bermuda rum .... new house ... all adds up.
In Jamaica, they slaughter a goat, paint parts of the house with the blood and then have a great feast. Much Jamaican "Overproof" rum is also part of the celebration too ... good stuff. Our house was not new construction either .. renovation, but we had the party anyway.
Can you pencil me in for the 1st week in December ? ... :D
-
Chris, you're going to have more people than you can manage :)
I suggest a ski vacation !
-
looks like a nice place:) i think you should dig a mote around it and fill it full of oil ,,so you can light it on fire just like the beastmaster,,lol,,jk
