Title: Looking for a good ww2 book
Post by: AHGOD on August 24, 2003, 01:27:24 PM
I am looking for a good ww2 book on the Germa Tiger Tank or Michael Wittman.  I have been going through Schiffers listings and wondered if anyone had any good advice?

'Panzer Battles of the Waffen-SS'.

It contains the actual platoon, company, and battalion AARs of the units. Lots of tactical detail with good coverage of the entire war. Wittman is in there - driver a Pz III at first (he wasn't in Pz VI until he'd 'earned his stripes' in a regular MBT).

Dago who are you?  Another wannabe that hides in here and never flies in AH?  Got a prob with the nic?  Deal with it.  And we all know what dagos true hidden meaning is you aren't fooling anyone closet boy...

And btw I have an extensive library, you might try that thing called reading rather interesting.

I have Panzer Aces by Franz Kurowski, but it's really all "I then killed the remaining 57 T-34's, it was my duty as a super duper German Officer."

 Some cool battle stuff though.

And weren't you going to  fight Raubvogel first instead of Dago? I'd really like to see you do your dry humping gay drunk routine with him.

hehehe, I can imagine your library, National Geographics cause you love the native pics, maybe some old Playboys, probably a couple Soldier of Fortune mags, and at least a half dozen Guns and Ammos to prove you are a tough guy.

Today is the day I just happen to feel like screwing with someone, and your ridiculous handle made you the perfect target.  No, you aren't a GOD in the game, truth be told, the best players prove it and don't act like a dork with some boastful handle.  Maybe you took AHGOD as some kinda joke, just seemed amazingly lame to me.

At least you were kind enough to raise to the bait and provide me with some good laughs.

Just shows how long u been in this game err lack of flying.  I have had this handle for quite sometime now and my old handle is out as well.  If ya wanna try and start something with me because of my oh sooo incredibly distasteful handle can i make a few suggestions?  I mean you know since you are trying to screw with me.

Lighten up frances.

Damn this has been fun, just tell me, was your handle a joke or do you really have that ego?

I am a big fan of ironic humor, and if you were just screwing around with that choice of a handle, then you have my apology, but you gotta admit that if someone took that handle seriously, they are a dork.  If its a joke, then I can relate.

As far as AH goes, I played for years, starting with the beta.  If you have been around very much, you should probably have recognized my handle.

I don't play anymore, just got tired of the game and needed a change, all I do now is visit the OT forum for the fun of it.

Lighten up,

dago

Geez Raub, those guys couldnt look any more gay if they dressed like the village people!

The guy on the left dyes his hair blonde, the other is holding his cigarrette like a chick. shudder.

The 'Panzer Battles of the Waffen-SS' is more of a tactical 'study/research' aide. They go into great detail about a number of crucial engagements. In some of them the Germans did well, in others they did much worse than they expected to. A really good book for aiding scenario design for wargames for instance.

There is an AAR near the end of the book that I still remember vividly though. Written by a platoon commander of Pz VIBs about a week before the end of WW2. Platoon commander describes German paratroopers crawling onto paved road between a pitched gunfight between the Pz VIBs and about 3x their number of Soviet MBTs (mostly T-34/85s, some IS-2s) to remove AT mines hastily thrown onto the road by Soviet infantry. Talk about nerve...
