Oh crap I can't...

WW2OL now needs 1Gb of RAM per hour to run (no I'm serious)

Are computer games clocked at gigabytes per hour these days? Extraordinary.

Umm yeah... it goes:
bloatware + bad coding + memoryleak = 1Gb RAM/hour :D

Hey, that's like distance = speed * time :D

Perhaps there is a whole new mechanics to this game. I'm off to write a paper - this could be the biggest thing since quantum mechanics!

Rumour is the new flight model is that "high fidelity real world physics" one Zeroace was always telling us about.

Only problem is you need that NASA Mainframe to run it on.

:D

Its kinda scary in there at the moment, lotsa of rabid user posts. CRS are diving for cover, even the fanboys are scared to be human-shields this time.

"Rumour is the new flight model..."

Which new flight model?

This years?  Last years?  The one before that? ;)

Lol, pop on over for some entertaining reading. Forget about posting unless you have an account though.

You guys are missing out on some real fun.  The mem leak will be fixed i'm sure.  It doesn't take a gig of ram either.  I've got 512 and it runs fine for me on the ground or in the air all options maxed out (no shadows) on my amd 1200.

Kind of funny to see the rabid responses here when somebody says WW2ol...

My personal favorite from the WW2OL faithfull was the "WWIIOL uses real physics for the flight model and then compares that data to the tabular values... and if it doesn't match, they adjust for it."  What do you adjust in the "real physics" world?  The laws of physics?

I'm playing over there udie, you Allied or Axis?

The memory leak is bad, most Axis players can't be bothered flying, and on the ground they resort to rebooting their PCs every hour or so. I have 1Gb and I gave up pretty quickly.

I'm allied right now.   Joined a squad of a bunch of WB players and we've been having a blast.   I guess I'm lucky,  the mem leak hasn't hit me at all.  The only problem I have is that the occasional stutters while flying are back.  But they clear up after a few seconds.  Heck with the new patch I was able to go up to 1280x1024x32 and still have avg. fps over 30, even with everything maxed out but shadows.

they'll fix the mem leak this week I bet.

just read this at AGW....

Another patch (1.9.7) due out this week, Maybe a fix is in there..along with the Destroyers

From Gophur:
-----------------------------------

V197 Today in beta.

We’ve got v197 going into beta today and the good news is performance appears to be much improved. Here’s a rundown of the changes.

Memory Reduction

We have gotten texture compression properly functioning under OpenGl, which in itself has helped reduce stutters in the engine. Initial load in lag is remarkably down for aircraft and vehicles. There remains post spawn in lag for infantry that we are working to address today. It is much improved over the current version and we plan to release it this week. We hope to squash the remaining lag before this goes out but what we don’t get in the next day or two will remain our top priority. Over all memory savings from this are about 40%.

Destroyers

The destroyer weapons are completed and ready for testing. With this next live patch the destroyers will be added to the live game at the following ports:

Britain:
Dover
Dunkirk

France:
Le Crotoy
Antwerp

Germany:
Willemstad
heckevoetsluis

We will initially be adding 8 destroyers to each port facility. They will be L3 vehicles meaning that only Captains will have access to them. Due to the high relative cost of these vehicles they will not be able to be affected by the current RDP rule set. Beginning with the next map we will be allowing the CnC to use the RDP cycle to change the deployment locations of both fleets and bombers. In addition to the aforementioned towns the following towns will be able to have fleets deployed to them by their owner:

Deal
Berck-Plage
Le Crotoy
Oostende

Redeploying fleets or bomber groups does not increase the number available it is merely a change in location of the group.

Well thats just squealing bizzare! I have an Athlon 2100XP+ with 1Gb of RAM, and I can't fly, the stutters hit constantly. Maybe it is a bug thats hittng Axis.

What I can't understand is the way CRS are understating it all. Until 1.9.3-1.9.6 there was no lag/stutter. All of a sudden WHAM its turned to custard.

If they don't fix it by the end of the week a LOT of players (onthe Axis side) will walk.

Do us a favour Udie, if you have spare time, can you switch sides and fly a 109 for an hour (take it into combat and all), see if theres a difference?

yeah I always can find time to fly a 109 :)  best plane in the game now.  I heard on their board about the "axis" bug  but I don't think it is.  We had a squad night on Sunday and we had to stop the mission because everybody (but me) was having the stutters.  Gopher posted about v1.67  that got rid of the stutters (they think) and a 40% saving in memory.

I was always one of the lucky ones.  I've had 2 CTD's in 3+ years even in alpha and beta.  (the ctd's were V. 1.4 or so)  The only problem I ever had with the game was with frame rates.  But they've been getting better and better.  The port to opengl was awesome!  Oh yeah,  I sometimes have a problem with boredome :D  waiting for a fight can take a while sometimes.  Then BLAMMO!!! all hell breaks loose for 5 minutes, then crickets with the occassional sniper's shot.  Flights can be a bit long too but near the front I usually am rtb in 15-20 min.   I've had some last for over an hour though :)

vulcan, although i dont play WW2OL anymore I used to experience the same thing you did.

I tracked the problem down to my sound card.

If you have an SBLIVE, that thing is like a WINMODEM..it hogs cpu processes for some reason. I actually took the card out of my PC and tried the game and voila! No stuttering anymore. Of course, no more sound either.

But since WW2OL was the only game that had this problem I opted for the wiser of the options and plugged the card back in and erased WW2OL.

Nirvana!

LOL thanks OIO, its not a sound problem though. The entire WW2OL community has it. Theres a memory leak related to Open GL. The stutters appear when your PC (even with 1Gb of RAM) starts paging to hard drive as it loads new textures.

I don't have it.  Runs fine, no stutters and FPS is good.  But then, I never had any problem running the software, from June 6 when it came out.  Not to say that I played it constantly, but that had nothing to do with the way it ran.

Duron 700, 512m RAM, GF2, no prob.  AMD running at 1800, 1 Gig RAM, GF4, no problem.

Umm Gadfly, you running 1.9.6?

Everyone has it, from the mouths of CRS themselves:

We are aware of the recent issues with the 1.9x patches. We also know that those issues are quite annoying.
We would like to remind you that we have a full time development team working on the game. 2 patches were already released to fix some of the issues. And our developers are still working on fixing the others.

Fixing those issues are our current priority so everything should go back in order shortly. We just need a little more time.

Of course this will not prevent our Art team to move forward on the vehicules modelization and LMGs at the same time.

We would like to thank you in advance for your patience.

And...

Vulcan,

I don't have it either, thankfully.  Oh and I forgot to go fly the 109 last night, got busy working up rank in the French A.F. (shut up Straffo and Freedomy :D) I want that p40!
