Title: Anti Aircraft Artilery

How about making all ack manned. In real life if someone has not manning the gun the gun was not shooting.

 In WWII, bombers could dive right down on a fteet and go right by,alot of the time untuched because it was people and not computers shooting at you.

This will also help people realize the importance of good gunnery skills.

So what do you think of this idea, be honest:D .

With manned ack at field once I got a 4.5k kill on a furballing zeke. It was just some poor n00b in a 109 against this zeke. I was eating lunch so I was squeezing out occasional bursts at the two planes. When "did I just see a flash?" off goes the zekes wing.

in h2h that would certainly suck, almost nobody likes to spend all of their expensive time on manning a gun

If we could man the 88s, I'd love that.  In fact, I think we should have a variety of acks:  twin 40mm bofors, 88s, 5" mounts, 20mm single and quad mounts and single and twin/quad .5os.  This would supplement the 37mms.  That all ack is 37mm is kind of whacky since ther ewas a variety of weaponry launched at planes.  Also, there is no penalty ofr mindless ack shooting.  In RL the falling, unexploded AA could be quite detrimental to your town, etc.  They should model that as well.

Not enough players IMO to do that....

Well not enough players would do it thats for sure.  Its rare to find all mannable acks filled at a field now.


More manned ack... btw you do realize there are no tracers for player mannable ack don't you?


More different playable acks fine, but not all of them.


A fighter can dive on the fleet and escape ....

A single fighter can deack any field in AH......  More manned ack would complicate matters a tad...

I don't think it would work if all ack had to be player manned, the milkrunners would have a field day though thats for sure.

I don't think that the ack should be all-manned. I do think that it should be mannable, though.

I also think that it should also depend (in the proper sense) on the state of the local factory. ie if the factory is dead, so is the ack.

SKurJ, flak in real life didn't have tracers like on the battel ships.


 asfor the other gunns then just shoot them befor they get you or just ovoid ack.:rolleyes:

You don't seem to understand obviously...

In RL (which is not what we are playing)  there was at least some indication that AA guns were firing.  Read some anecdotes of actual pilots... tracer was used in some AA guns some of the time.  And even if it wasn't there would still be muzzle flash, smoke etc from the firing gun.  (which we have none of in AH)


The only people that would benefit from all guns having to be manned would be vulchers and milkrunners.  Both would likely get all the ack nice and quick by sneaking in when noone was paying attention to the map (which we would have to do at all times with no AI ack...  if we were concerned about the landgrab)

I can take all the ack down at a small field when its firing at me in under 5 minutes... How long do you think it would take you to get that many people to man AA guns?  By the time you had ONE person to help you all the ack would be down and you would be in the tower.


The computer ack is a bad shot...  humans are better, I'm starting to think having ALL ack AI but also player mannable would be a better solution.

The current fleets should have likely 5x the number of AA guns they currently have (guessing)

We are here to play a flight sim, just like in real life... the pilots didn't man the AA guns...

Well if HiTech is paying attention to this post you just may have given him an idea, making the ack guns have flashes or smoke when firing:D

All I ask for is that HTC take note use a lot of these great ideas posted in this thread and give my GV squadron the one vehicle that is so desperatly needed
