Netflix is great, Two Towers arrived in the mail a couple days after it was released. :)
Anyway, I couldn't understand a whoopee thing that Golan was saying, wtf is up with Hollywood? have to slur and obscure a characters voice similiar Golan to hide the poor script? I understood one word..."precious"...the rest was garble to me. Rant over.
(PS, movie was okay, but just more of the same "Travel thru the forest, mtns. Battle. Win. Travel thru the forest, mtns. Battle. Win...rince and repeat)
And Curval, your home-to-be looks nothing like Helms Deep. :)
-
Gollum,
Have you read the books Rip?
-
Hmmmm.... gollum was quite understandable. And... he was very close to the character defined in the book.

Huh..., what is your 2nd language? Hollywoodese?
-
I thought Gollum and Wormtongue were the 2 characters that most matched my personal expectations. Still think Aragorn is too wimpy.
-
yikes..I gotta agree with MiniD. I thought Gollum was amazing.
The house doesn't look exactly like Helm's Deep..thank goddness...I still like the name though.:)

My wife did too. She loved your house.

how was the sound on this release?
I bought the extended 4 disk version of the first release and the sound levels flucuated all over the place.
sometimes it was so quiet I couldn't hear anything... Jack up the volume on the receiver... Then...
POW!!!, I damn near get blown out of the water ... Jack down the volume on the receiver.
This went on thru the whole freaking set. Hope they got the mix right on this release...
-
I got the DVD today and I loved it. The extended version is going to see wonderful from what I have seen in the preview included in the second disk of this release.
And Return of the King... phew can't wait to see it.
Daniel
-
YOu should have waited to order it Cyrano, The "extended" version comes in November.
The sound was good, no severe sound fluctuation but then again, I had it cranked up pretty good on the stero speakers because I couldn't understand a whoopee word that Gollum was saying.
Edit: Added "Extended" by the proper name, as Diablo pointed out.
-
The Fellowship was a great movie but when they released the 'extended' version it became a COMPLETE movie. I will not buy the Two Towers until the extended version comes out, anything less is a crime.
-
no problem understanding gollum here...but i suppose reading the books helps a bit
aragorn and that other human were wimps
the ents wernt quite what i excpected
-
the problem is that the books are weak to begin with. They did a good job at dealing with the poor writeing though.

I had no problems understanding Gollum, and I've never read the books. I think it's time for an old man in WA to get his hearing checked. :)

Wife and kids were asking ME what he was saying. Nuff said. (Guess the educated masses may have a problem interpreting)
-
In Rip's defense (Cue snowfall in hell) I think that a fan of the books probably would have a much easier time understanding Gullom.
-
Or maybe it's the DVD's audio or Rip's sound system. I haven't seen the DVD yet, just in the theater. Gonna wait until the next release with the added footage.

Modas, the problem is one of compression. Your DVD player may have the solution to this -- check through the settings for a Compression or Audio Compression feature.
One of the big differences between broadcast television and a theater is that the television audio is more heavily compressed -- the range between the lowest and highest volume levels is reduced (and then on some channels you set the maximum volume to 80 percent of signal and the commercials at 100%). This way the television provides a constant chatter and a manageable volume in a house where other things are going on.
If you've got a good sound reproduction system, and are able to watch a movie like a movie rather than having it on while other things are transpiring, the full range is actually desirable. Moreover, if you've got a processor on the DVD player that's reading the audio, you can stick a compressor in there too, so DVDs have been mixed that way.

Two Towers the Movie was a slap in the face to Tolkien.
That guy is probably still rolling over in his grave.
the first installment was tolerable, in spite of the mess they made of Arwen. The second installment left me wondering if Peter Jackson ever read the books... I could go on for pages.... Elves at Helm's deep?

Sucks compared to...what?
Is it the genre you don't like or are you comparing Tolkein to better writers of fantasy fiction?

I just saw it tonite. I understood Gollum/Smashed(whatever, he sounded smashed) fine, like talking to a homeless vagrant - it excercises your ability to comprehend the words coming out of people's mouths.
Haven't read the books, they were before my time, but I liked the movie a lot.
Frogm4n is 12? Coulda fooled me, thought it was still an embryo.

Brillant film, just waiting on the Extended version to buy....

Quite frankly anyone who thinks PJ "butchered" LOTR, or wasn't "faithfull" had better just stick to reading the books, and knowing..they could've done better themselves!
The fact Peter Jackson made that convoluted mess of a storyline accessible to the masses is an accomplishment itself.
Just be glad George Lucas didn't get a hold of it!

Ok I'm one of those old fashioned book reader types. I've been reading & rereading LOTR since I was 16.
Every 5 years or less without fail I've gladly turned my thoughts to an old dear friend who has a marvolous story to tell.
Fact of the matter is there is WAY too much material for ANY Nine 3 hour moves to put it all in, much less in 3.
So they have to make choices.
Done deal, deal with it.
Ok so parts of it arn't exactly correct, parts of it are so close to the image in my brain that its freaky! And I mean FREAKY! It's like Jackson has a mind machine & he's been looking in my head!
FYI we did a LOTR theme day on tues.
Started with #1 in extended version, quick break for supper then on to the two towers.
Was one of the very best days of my life, it was awesome. (The theaters don't let you wave "sting" about & yell"
If that makes me a dweeb & less than a LOTR purist, cool, so be it.
-
Y'all should watch Bad Taste. Peter Jackson is a GENIUS! :D
SOB

Okay, so just finished watching it. Decent, but not nearly as good as the book. Some of the things that were changed, didn't need to be for the sake of cinema, but whatever.
Ghost, I gotta tell ya, I had the same feeling with some scenes. Exactly as I pictured them.
Others, well...
Still a good movie, can't wait for ROTK.
BTW, those elephants were a wee bit bigger than I imagined.

did you make it through the whole movie?
not a bad movie for a $12 budget
-
Well ok there was "one" thing that did tick me off that Jackson COULD have fixed easily.
Eudoras the city in the middle of the "Plains" of Rohan perched up on the top of a New Zealand Rock was kinda funky.
I suppose all the available "plains" had houses or phone wires or something in the way. Next time tell em to come to North Dakota, we still got plains up here.

Penthouse letters are fantasy fiction, and they don't have trolls and goblins.... {at least not many.}

I know, what a crock, they were there studmuffingoting up the place with their stupid trees singing Kumbaya all the time and complaining about the food. No wonder Aaragon is stuch a wuss, after hanging out with those funboys for so long.

Same here.
I do have a couple of bones to pick with PJ though.
1. Faramir is SUPPOSED to represent the good in mankind. Showing him capturing frodo and taking him to Osgiliath was STUPID!!!! Remember he does help Eowyn forget Aragorn later on. He should be a pretty good guy.
2. WTF is this crap about Arwen going off to the Grey Havens? Huh???? Paaleeez!
-
You mean you guys would be pissed if the greatest story teller ever got his hands on the rights to LOTR? Just think, Aragorn could have looked something like this:

About to watch it again ...
When I saw Two Towers at the theater, it blew me away. MUCH more spectacular than the first movie. And much less boring IMO too.
Rip when you get the chance to see this movie in the theater .. do it! Even a projection screen and surround sound can't do it justice...

I thought the movies were great. Just watched Two Towers again last night.
Although I like Dennis L McKiernan's Iron Tower trilogy better. ;)

Actually, his writing is considered quite literary. It doesn't invoke the sentiment given to Stienbeck, Hemmingway, or Twain because of the fantasy theme, thus the idea that it was intended for children but his writing is well regarded.

I sense a reference to Volo in Baldur's Gate with tones of bardic behaviour. How do you really feel Sik?

I gotta question about the movie - what is Smeagol talking about at the end when he's talking to himself about killing the hobbits, he says, "We could let her do it" "Yes she could kill them". Or something like that - Will "she" be something revealed in the third film, or is it already known who "she" is and I missed the explanation?

"She" is key to the story I heard, so yes, "she" will make an appearance. So, do you want a spoiler?

I saw it for the second time on Wed. I liked a lot more than I did the first time I saw it in the theater. The differences from the book were a lot less jarring, I suspect because I knew they were there. Still, they didn't seem to take up nearly as much of the movie as I recalled.
I enjoyed it. Oh, Gollum definately speaks in an odd voice, but it is understandable.
The Two Towers is supposed to be the biggest deviation from the books. They say The Return of the King is going to be the best of the three, We shall see in Dec.
