Title: Started My DVD Collection
Post by: narsus on August 28, 2003, 11:43:39 AM
I have had a few (less than 10) lying around that family and friends have bought me...Spiderman, Matrix, Army of Darkness, etc.

I bought 4 DVD's the other day.

The Day the Earth Stood Still
Young Frankenstein
History of the World Part I
Forbidden Planet

Watched Forbidden Planet last night with some friends who hadn't seen it yet (I haven't in several years), very cool movie for 1956 or even now for that matter.

"Amélie" SOB?  I have a wife... I have to.  Of course you make up for it with "Yatta By Happatai: Limited Edition".  It certifies you as the gayest FDB ever.

Though... I must covet these:

Who Framed Roger Rabbit: Vista Series
Cabin Boy (one of the top 100 worst movies ever made)
Jason X: Platinum Series
The Complete Monty Python's Flying Circus: Box Set
Freeway
Cop Land (though you don't have "get carter")
The Cannonball Run
2 Days In The Valley

The rest of your collection (at least the ones I don't have) is ass.  Much like your love for japanese boy bands.

OK...

"Pollack"  OK movie, semi-over rated, but Ed Harris was great

"Rounders"  Great movie, really good script

"Dazed and Confused"  I am biased, this movie WAS my childhood, 5 stars

"Fight Club"  Holy crap, whatta screenplay

"American Beauty"  The single most OVER RATED PIECE OF **** of the last 10 years.  No, that goes to "The Crying Game", AB is second

"Band of Brothers"  Best mini series ever.  Period.  Nuff said

"From The Earth To The Moon"  Second best mini series ever

"Amelie"  Plot? who cares! Photgraphed, acted, and directed beautifully.

"Y Tu Mama Tambien"  Achingly honest portrayal of two teen friends in Mexico.  Like nothing I have ever seen, incredibly original

"My Cousin Vinny"  One of the funniest movies ever made, Joe Pesci's performance is stellar, Marissa Tomei looks great, acts even better

"Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back"   Laughed so hard the first time I saw it I hit "play" again and watched immediately afterwards

"The Godfather, Pts I & II"  My favorite 2 movies ever made.  Nothing even comes close to how much I love Pacino's performance in this masterpiece

"Saving Private Ryan"  Honest.  Brutal.  Tom Hanks.  Haven't sat through a movie that made my palms sweat since I was 10 years old.  The ending with the 51 was typical Spielberg, but loved the moive as a whole

....more titles coming later.

Diablo... get DvD Profiler.  It's actually a pretty neet utility for tracking what you've purchased... and it provides a means to publish it to the web.

That way we don't have to read through your gay commentary as you list only the "gems" of your collection in an attempt to look sophisticated.

gayest reply of all times.  I think before I stop calling you gay you should probably stop acting it.  Now get the profiler... upload your movies and STFU.

BTW... it uses UPC codes, so you could do all 60 movies in about 3 minutes.

I guess I'm one of the very few who likes the movie Captain Ron.  I bought it soon after it came out on DVD.  It's cheesy, but I can watch it over and over.

Don't worry MT... you're too old and bald to be attractive.  Besides... as long as SOB is within 200 miles, I'm happy.

This does nothing to dismiss the fact that diablo is a little girly man that is too afraid of someone criticizing his movie choices to post them in a non-narated environment.  His panzy bellybutton politically correct super sensitivity beliefs are about as gay as SOB's right hand.

Wow... there's not much in that collection but there's so much to talk about.

Do you keep the Slayer DvD and the Joe Satriani DvD in separate cabinets?  I think they'd explode if you stored them together.

I see you didn't see "Ghosts of Mars" in the theater either and figured "what the hell... it's only $9" just like me.

As for the punisher... it just occured to me that I might not have a single Dolf Lundgren movie.  I must rectify that.

MiniD

WineMan and I were both at that Slayer show.

Both Satariani and Slayer are favorite bands of mine , they sit in the cabinet nicely together.

Ghost of Mars was a bomb but John Carpenter is my favorite Director ,and yes I snagged it for 7.99.

I love his DVDs because of the Director comentary. So I will grab all the Carpenter bombs I can find.

Punisher was a great movie hands down.

You can deduce all you want, that is all you will get.  DVDprofiler or not my list is my list.  If you weren't so gay yourself you wouldn't be so interested in what I have in my DVD closet as I have already posted some of the ones that I have.  But, if you insist on this, its fine with me.  This is a land of diversity and there are plenty of areas for your colorful queer remarks on this BBS or others.  Go ahead, post away, no one has and no one will ever stop your posts.  ;)

Porky's II
History of the World Part I(So bad no one would pony up for Part II)
The Man who Knew too Little(seen it, but it is borderline)
THE POSTMAN! Gawd!
Sixteen Candles?

If I find any Van Damme movies in your collection, I'm really gonna point and laugh...And invite others to do the same:)

Spaceballs

The 10th Kingdom?  Never heard of it. Good?

Rockstar:eek:

Awesome, ya got "Used Cars" I've refound my respect for you.

"Dude, Where's my car?" Respect gone.

A Fish called Wanda.  Alright, I guess your ok :)

I have plenty of bad movies in my collection, but your list really aint none of them (except Porkys II, but that came with Porky's).

Bad movies on my list:
Just to name a few.  I do have some other bad movies I'm gonna have to buy:  Cabin Boy (spotted it in Tronski's collection), Dumb and Dumberer (Will surpass Get Carter as the worst movie in my collection) and Charlies Angels II.  And... since you've challenged me... I'm gonna have to get Universal Soldier just to cover the absence of both Dolf Lundgren and VanDam.

But let me adress the movies you singled out:

The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai:History of the World Part I:  Not Great but definately had it's moments.  Tossing the pissboy's tip into the piss bucket had me rolling on the floor.  Lot's of other really subtle stuff in it that was just too hilarious.

The man who knew too little: A very fun movie.  Bill Murry's part was a little dry, but the rest made up for it.  Plus it has a chase scene with a mini and that's a good thing in any movie.

The Postman: Not a horrible movie, but not a great one either.  We have it mostly cause the wife likes Kevin Costner.

Sixteen Candles:  Holy Crap!  I cannot believe you listed this as a bad movie.  I must deduce that you have either no clue or no sense of humor.  This is one of the most classic films ever.  The quotable quotes are second only to those found in Princess Bride.  Hardly a day goes by where I don't utter the words "The donger needs food!" to the wife.

Teh 10th Kingdom was a made for TV mini series.  It's pretty good.

  • The Crow II and II (A box set with I which makes it all worth while)

Don't forget Caddyshack II.  A friend at work loves CS but thinks CSII was some exec's gift to his director wannabe kid.

But let me adress the movies you singled out:

The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai:
  • The only movie I've ever liked that had Peter Weller in it
  • The movie is worth the price of admission just for John Lithgow's performance
  • I simply never get tired of the John Smallberries, John BigBootie (THAT'S BIGBOUTAAAA!), John YaYa and the rest of the Yoyodine production boys.

The clicheic stereotypes(or is it stereotypical cliches) in that movie really disowned me.  I cannot recommend it because of that.

Oh yeah! Dong! The Korean exchange student. Somehow I remembered his name as Wang.  I would have thought, for you, the movie too chick.  I'm surprised at this new side of you.  You should talk to Silat about the requirements for sensitivity officer.
