http://www.callofduty.com (http://www.callofduty.com)
The demo was originally suppose to come out Sunday but they up'ed it to tonight. I don't know if it's still a FilePlanet exclusive demo or they will release it to all download sites.
The game is from the makers of Medal of Honor: Allied Assault. It looks incredible from the videos I've seen.
-
Thanks for the heads-up! Looking forward to seeing the demo.
Do you know if it's a mod for MOH or a new stand alone game? And is it multi-player? That website is slow with all the folks hitting is looking for the demo and I'm not able to get much info on it.
-
Looks like it might be interesting. I'm going to download it just to see how far they've taken the squad/realism aspect. I'll be pulling it off rather quickly if it turns out to be the same old health meter power up system that MoH had. I really hope they didn't keep that in... or at least made it an option for disabling.

Wow, amazing graphics, and it looks like amazing gameplay also. Westy, the site is working pretty good for me. I will definitely be getting this game for console if it will be for PS2
-
I'm assuming the demo will be multiplayer but not possitive. It's a brand new game and not an add-on for MoH:AA.
Check out the video on the website. The action looks intense. Also the Stalingrad they created looks incredible.
-
AHA! Finally finished seeing the teaser. Must be my connection is slow and not the host site in general.
But it does look awesome. I enjoyed playing the MOH:AA demo last year for quite some time. I hope this is at least as good.
I'm a bit tired of the DoD small scale maps. Wolfenstien:ET has too many playes taking advantage of some graphics driver bug and besides while it was fun it plays like an arcade and that got old. And I never bought BF:1942 for the same reason. Fun beta but the complete suspension of any reality turned me off.
Been looking forward to" DoD" on the HL-II engine next year (?) and also been keeping an eye on the "Invasion'44" Flashpoint mod (got to load that up again now that I have a better machine) but I'd forgotten all about this project and it's nice to get a nice surprise like this. :)
-
Ah the DOD killer is finally here.... been waiting for this. Good test for my system too.
-
the Russian and German snipers that hunted each other? The scene of the Stukas bombing the Russian soldiers in the ferry boats brought the movie to mind. I'd like to rent that one again this weekend.
Anyone recall?

I've played Wolfenstein for xBox and PS2 and have to say the graphics on the xBox were far, far superior.
CoD duty has all the look of MoH, I am a little hesitant about being excited about it although I do love MoH, I was just hoping for something a little less familiar.
We shall see...
-
Looking forward to this game but still think its soo cheesy and unoriginal when games copy movies, Call to Duty, MOH.
-
Ill DL the Beta. The multiplayer will make or break the game for me.
-
"By tonight"... you mean... ?
-
Its out now... and Fileplanet has 'stopped.' LOL
-
any have a mirror or is fileplanet it?
-
I think Fileplanet is it. Ive never seen a website so swamped before. I have yet to bring up the DL page.
-
Batz,
This site has a list of mirrors:

I'm getting 50k/sec from the Hard Wired link.

Just got in on fileplanet with no wait.

Yup, me too - about 10 minutes ago. I dunno what they changed, but Im a happy customer again. Only getting about 60 kbs though...
-
it's a single player only demo that's over 150meg.
Played it all the way through in about 10 minutes. There's some cool features in regards to squad movement and such, but it's still got the healthbar 10 shots to kill you unless you get a medic pack mentality to it.
I give it a 5 out of 10 and don't really think this is worth the download.
MiniD
-
IMO, its worth the download, but I dont think I'd buy it.
Concur with MiniD - squad 'feel' is good, weapons arent horrible, sounds and atmosphere is pretty good.
Default controls suck.
Fine game, better than MoHAA, but no DoD killer for sure.
-
DoD definately is better.
Its better then MoH by far but still arcady. 1 mission finished in about 8 min after a 19 min dl.
Not worth the dl just for that mission.
I bought MoH because I liked the offline stuff, online MoH sucks.
I am curious how this plays online. It most likely will have the Moh netcode that sucked. I wish there was a better demo to get a better feel. Everything looks good but I expected as much.
Up in the air over this one........
DoD is still king.......
-
Wish they'd realise that a bit more realism wouldn't hurt..
-
It probably would hurt sales Fishu...
But remember where DoD came from... its a mod.. MOH was and still is crippled in that there is no support for mods... perhaps COD will be different.. lets hope so..
My thoughts..
Awesome +)
atmosphere great
sounds good
gfx are lovely
shooting from sights at last... (well at least since HD...)
action seems realistic enough, seeing your squad facing an enemy squad across the road both sides hiding in whatever cover available, game does a decent job of that for sure
Controls, just about everythin you could ever need or want and easily configured how u like.
Yeah the 10 shots to kill you stuff takes alotta the "immersion" to a degree, though I only played through it on 2nd difficulty level. I imagine at higher levels you won't survive so many hits..
Sure I'd like to see something abit more realistic when taking hits but... that mod will come probably not long after the game goes on sale, perhaps final version will have a real damage mode who knows..
Worth the purchase IMO

I agree that they should have a realistic mode. One with realistic leathality, no silly health packs and realistic weapon/ammo carrying capacity (though CoD is slightly better that the standard FPS in this regard).
However, I recognize that it could only be a mode, not default as too many sales would be lost if it didn't have the standard first person shooter stuff.
Still, unlike DoD this is a single player game and nicely atomosphereis and I will probably pick it up.
Skurj,
CoD is being done by mostly the same people who did MoH, though it is a new company and a different publisher.
I am personally looking forward to the mods dome with HL2's Source engine. Valve knows how big a role the mod community played in HL's success and are working to continue that tradition.
-
Good atmosphere, great sounds/Fx..
I liked the AI.. the germans I felt used cover very well (how much was scripted?) and often ran to behind cover when caught out of the open...
Finished it fairly quickly, not sure about buying...perhaps a little too much like MOHAA. Needs a realistic mode (more like DOD)

What tronski said, and the battle flashes in the sky really added to the feeling of being in battle. TOO much like MOHAA, but good. Not great from what I was anticipating, but again, worth the download.
Attacking the quad AA gun was pretty great gameplay/grafix work. The muzzle flashes were awesome. What a AA rig that is.
If it would support squad vs. squad human players with AI on each side to fill the gaps, this would be terrific multiplayer.
-
PS: I tried the game on the hardest difficulty level last night.
As far as I can tell, it allows for 1 shot, one kill on you - I dunno how many shots to teh enemy on this level as I couldnt get passed the 'cow field.'
The gunners dont miss. :D
-
Just played it again. I love the shell-shock type effects of a near miss mortar or grenade.

Veteran settings are ok. 2 hits usually kills ya.
the kar is badass, the Fug isnt that good, mp40 sux like it should, the thompson is cool, the carbine is accurrate. the 45 is deadly, the ruger is crap.
Grenade tossing is strange in the animation but they arent the hand helds tactical nukes like in DoD.
-
"perhaps a little too much like MOHAA. Needs a realistic mode (more like DOD)"
Played this at E3 - for those who aren't familiar with the backroom politics - these guys were origional design team for MOHAA when EA shafted them after release.
From the gameplay - its a lot more immersive then MOHAA - but still has much of the linear gameplay.

Red Orchestra is going to be the DoD killer, until they release DoD 2.0 using the HL2 engine.

It looks like the AI is scripted just as much as the AI was scripted in MOH. again no suprise since most of the guys working on CoD worked on MOH.

Ack-Ack,
I had never heard of Red Orchestra (http://www.unrealwarfarex.com/redorchestra) . I looked it up and it looks pretty darn impressive. Thanks for mentioning it. I can never get enough quality WWII games. :)
-
RO looks pretty promising, but what game are they modding? UT2004? Im not big on the Unreal games, but Ive never heard of UT2004.
Reading forums now... (yes work is slow) :D
-
Red Ochestra looks amazing.
UT2003 came out earlier this year (last year?). I guess the next installment is on its way.
I like how they have included iron sights. IMO, the shooting from the hip should mean just that - no cross hairs at all.

Like Vietcong, no crosshairs..only ironsights

I liked this game very much and I will buy the game when it comes out!
I think one of the coolest things it the fact when you get up close to a enemy you can Malee with him an go for a silet kill!
-
What is DoD?
-
Hiya Aztec. DoD is "Day of Defeat." A fantastic WWII infantry "mod" that you install onto of Sierra's "Half Life" game. It's getting a bit long in the tooth and when Half Life II comes out there will supposedly be a new DoD version too.

They're modding UT2003 which will carry over to UT2004 when it's released later on this winter.

Here's another WW2 themed online first person shooter. Like Red Orchestra, it's also for UT2003/2004.

Hey Westy! Thx for the info and
! old friend.:)
-
thanks! im DL it now im getting 46.9k/sec on the HELL site.
This game looks awsome!
-
WOW
That was awsome!!!! Feels like the action in Band of Brothers.
Those MG are a beatch! I like watching those mortors blow my squad up in the start of the game! (very cool)
THANKS Makarov9 for letting us know about the demo i forgot about this game.

Try this IP address for some great DoD play - its the main server for the squad Im in - 4th Wehrmacht: 69.41.238.74:27020
Just plug that into the 'add server' option. More mature players - great teamwork - very vocal, etc.
I keep going back to that RO mod... it looks absoluetly amazing. Is it true they are considering using two buttons to operate bolt action rifles? One click to fire and another to operate the bolt? This is gonna be nuts - will hold me over until DoD2 at least.
Going back to read more... :D
