My son was visiting and he told me that I am a Big block Chevelle snob... He said that in his area with his friends who are mostly gearheads to some degree... us old farts with big block Chevelles and GTO's and such are just rich old farts.
He thought it was funny cause he knows I don't have as much in my El Camino as a lot of the "kids" he hangs out with have in their hondas or whatever those cars are.
The prices for a good Chevelle have gone up tho. 10 grand for one that needs 10 grand worth of work is pretty common.

Pretty much all of them need 10 grand's work, don't they?
-
Technically, a chevelle snob is someone that only wants a '69 chevelle... or a 66 chevelle.
I love the Chevelle's from 65 up to 72. None of that sub-frame **** you see with the camaros, mustangs and mopar. All steel full frame big blocks. Drool.
BTW, a friend has a 67 malibu for sale with a 283. All original with 30,000 miles in show condition. It's got original paint that's thin from being waxed over the last 35 years, but it's flawless other than that. I'm pretty sure he'd let it go for around $10,000. All you'd have to do would be to drop a real engine in it and pull off those damn curb feelers.

I had a '73 Chevelle economy model (brand new), and that car hauled butt. Top end 90 mph, but it got there fast, and cornered well too. I loved that car:D

Completely agree. More of a GTO fan but the Chevelle's are a close second.

That's the thing I hate most about corners, they make you slow down.

Surprisingly, the engine never had any major repairs over a period of about 15 years. And I drove that car to hell. The body rusted out before the engine wore out. Sold it to the mechanic at the shop. He wanted it for his son. It needed some work...wouldn't be surprised if they planned on making a race car out of it, for the body.

The thing I love about corners is that if you gun it, you will tailfish:D ... something that a Civic pimp will never enjoy:p

Im used to the Chrysler B body snobs. They seem infinitely proud of having spent more money on their cars than the GM guys to achieve the same results.

I wish I had kept my "70" SuperBee

Not that they could ever enjoy the sweetness of getting loose in a corner...too busy jamming the latest MNM CD to even think about it.

Does anyone remember the dodge(or plymouth?) GLH? They put a 2.2 turbo in a little hatchback with front wheel drive. I was told GLH stood for goes like hell. I used to read stories about people taking a turn and punching the gas, because of the front wheel drive the car would go straight.

Yeah, I remember it. Car & Driver called it the Goes Like Hell car.

"All told, Dodge claims the GLH will develop 0.859g on the skidpad and will accelerate from 0 to 50 mph in 5.75 seconds. The car carries and EPA rating of 25 mpg in the city and this is a good indication of what could be achieved during spirited driving, with commensurately better fule economy when motoring more sedately. "
These are very respectable compact car numbers even today...

Guy I know has been driving his Buick Grand National for maybe 10 years or more. Runs pretty nicely with 3.8liter V-6 w/turbo.

A friend of mine owns and autocrosses a Dodge GLH, and that thing is a rocket. Neil Stephenson described it as a 'poor man's porsche' in Zodiac, and that's about right.

20th Anni. Trans Ams had this engine combo as well. Did they run as good as the GN's did? Never really heard one way or the other.
My 96 Camaro has the 3.8 normally aspirated and it has enough horses to keep me satisfied but not enough to get me in trouble. ;)

well... I think what the kids are saying these days is that like the Harley... the old muscle cars are all being bought up by us old farts.
deja gives a good example. the Chevelle he is talking about woulda been 2-3 grand 10 years ago... to get it to be a big block SS clone can cost an additional 10-30 grand...
Staga sent me some car mags from his country... it is different... younger set and they are having fun with their cars... driving them and such... the U.S. car scene is mostly about parades and lawn chairs. Just like Harley riding is about parades and designer clothing.

Well we do have lawn chairs (http://www.saunalahti.fi/~fma/tapahtumat/tap02pics/mm02_e15.jpg) in here too.
(btw reg-plate is HEM-1, that 'Cuda used to "live" in small town 30-40kmh NE from Helsinki, dunno if same guy still owns it).
Edit: Same 'Cuda (http://www.paalupaikka.com/oulu/2002/kuvat/hemicuda.jpg) at carshow. I don't think too many guys are only showing their cars; most are also driving them in our (short) summers.

Hey Laz, how do you carry lawn chairs on a Harley? Sounds like a cool idea, you know, ride till your tired then break out the lawn chairs for some rest...:D
-
staga... that is what I meant... those guys taking a trip in the cuda. I use mine for everyday transportantion. If I pull in at a rest stop people ask me what "event" I'm going to. Then they get a little closer and see that my car is far from a show car.
mark... never did lawnchairs but extended wide glides will work in a pinch.. if it is raining you have to decide on whether to use your coat for a tent half or to keep warm... especially if you are allready using your t shirt for a front fender.

Staga:
Can you post a cockpit-cam film of your muscle car driving around Helsinki at 200+ KMH (note to lazs: 200+ KMH means fast). I really enjoyed the motorcycle film and am looking forward to the 4 wheel version.
