Try this, go into the TA, select a 109 G10, 30mm cannon, sit on runway, and fire. Observe dispersion WITHOOUT prollonged fire, without a hot barrel.

Hi Zig.
As you know I have found the 108 to be mostly useless in AH. I have had 3 kill Buff sorties in a 109 G10 with only the nose 108. but on other sorties the whole mag emptied and nothing. In the 190 I find it really useless cause it is not only inaccurate itself but it has very differnt ballistics to the 151s that have to fire with it. This makes targeting it very hard.
But the disperion and ballistics of the gun should certainly be calculatable?

I'd think that an engine mounted cannon would be pretty rigid and not subject to dispersion. However keep in mind that dispersion also probably represents things (like turbulence) that keep a real pilot from holding his nose as perfectly still as we can.

thing is i read about these expert marksmen, but problem is no way you can be expert marksmen in AH, scatter is simply too high. How did the german aces do it? I heard they could aim for the pilot, i doubt you could hit a pilot sized target from 200 yards in here, shells just scatter too much.

Umm I have no problem making deflection shots from 500 yards. Not spray and pray, just a short tap and boom. I haven't heard any WW2 pilots describe being able to do something like that. Maybe Marseille?

Yes well thats who im talking about (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) He got like 12 kills with 20 cannon rounds or some other such amazing feat. Doesn't seem possible in here.
Additionally, Saburu Sakai says he made 65% of his A2A combat victories using only the 2 7.7 mm guns on his zeke. Seems that would be near impossible in here..
Just some stuff ive read that doesn't seem repeatable.

Well, on a good day, I can get 4 enemies with 150 rounds of cannons. Usually I average 2-3.
I think that they quite literally let the enemy fill the windscreen before opening up.
Have read several anecdotes about it. One said he was fairly good at maneuvering, but a lousy shot, so really got close.

Look at this:

It's kinda relative, this pictures simulate how the plane's weight and guns effect dispersion.

Were ww2 cannon manufacturers really so incompetant?
..they can't hold a candle to the guys they got boltin' pony wings on.

hi all:
i would really like to know where you guys get your planes, it does not matter what i fly, a couple of pings and im smoking or missing a wing, couple more pings and im dead. i know i have lite up planes when i get on there 6 and it does not seem to hurt them at all, or very little as far as what it takes to knock me down. so if you could tell me where you get these planes your talking about i would be very happy.

Yup, thats what I end up doing in the 109's...I won't even bother firing the cannon until under 200 yards. 13mm is a lil different tho, if I don't dump it intially I use it to make a runner turn (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) (G10 being the exception)
I believe alot of the German aces liked 50 yards and less...I've heard accounts where they got as close as 20 yards to fire a single 20mm round.
Where as with the US boys, alot of their kills were from 400 yards and back. Good precentage of Chuck Yeager and Bud Anderson's kills were a little further then 600 yards.

In AH I don't like 30mm alot, it feels too ineffective against bombers.
As I have flown alot Bf109s, I have got alot kills in sortie with 20mm, but just rare with 30mm (and usually half of total sortie kills comes by 13mm after 30mm used up)
two 13mm are pretty much lethal in AH, you should not question power from those.
That gun can give you several kills after you have emptied your cannon (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

I flew the g10 for about a month, with only the 30mm. That gun simply rocks. It seems to lose it's punch over about 300 yrds though. So I never used it over about 150 yrds. I would just shoot 1 or 2 shells at a time too. The trick is to manuver to the bandits six (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) close, REAL close then use the cannon.
I got a p51 in a snap shot once in the SEA (HA) 1 ping took off his starboard wing (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

I fly in front of 109's and throw my wings at 'em.
The surprised look on their faces when they catch a wing panel in the chops is priceless.
