Which one of these planes would you take to the air?
-
g6 30mm or 3 20mm always do well
I always do bad in the g2 dunno why
-
ummmmmmm g2 for me.
-
G-6 for me.
I can turn "inside" against every fighter except spits, P-38s, and 109E4/F4s.
BTW how many rounds of MK-108s do i need to fire to "blow up" a fighter?
-
G-2 here. Usually with gunpods. If I want the 30mm, I'll take the G10.
Ike, if you think the G-6 turns well, give the G-2 a shot.
The 30mm almost always knocks off something essential with a single hit. Hit them anywhere near the cockpit, and they'll blow up in one shot. With the 30mm, concentrate on firing 2-3 round bursts from a position that you can't miss.
Here's a great link about G-6 info from Soda's aircraft evaluations.

Well I always liked the G6 over the G2 because I think the firepower of the MG131 was useful over the MG17 and of course the MK108 option though I almost always now take G6 with a single 20mm. I never take pods. But recently I have run up a string of 10 kill sorties in the G2 without pods, so maybe its not so bad. But I will agree with Citabria that for me the G2 has also been a bad luck plane while the G6 is more lucky, I donno.
-
It's interesting the decision to make between these two aircraft. The G2 is actually the better performer/handler while the G6 has a clear firepower advantage (even without the 30mm). I like the G2 because it still offers turn-rate that can catch people offguard (they think all 109's can't turn) but I think a lot of people pick the G6 so they can have 13mm cowl guns and 30mm spinner cannon.
I tend to go G2, no gondolas, when I want a change from the G10.
I have some new pages to put up on my website for the 109's but simply haven't had the time.... maybe this week.

Neither, grab the Franz w/ out the gondolas, what a ride...
-
G-2, if there are Spitfires and N1K2s around.
G-6, if otherwise.

a poor man's spit 14 (in turnfights):D
-
I have very little experience with the g6 and i find it hard to hit a moving plane w/ the 30mm. The other day i was fiting a spit V in a g6 w/ 30mm and i could never get a shot on the plane Luckily he couldnt either so i disengaged and headed home. How do i shoot down a spit V w/ the 30mms in a 1v1 fight?

Get closer D=300 and shoot ONLY if he's flying horizontal for 1 or 2 secs
-
don't forget that the G6 has the nicer cockpit glass. It's called the Galland hood isn't it?
It's not a huge difference but it's somthing to consider. Never underestimate visibility.
-
I prefer the G2, but no 30mm so I take gondolas, dweeb that I am!
Devourer. In this *game*, I have found the best way to get kills 1-v-1 is to tempt your quarry into thinking he's going to get a cheap HO shot, then rope him upwards. He loses E and stalls, and that's when you pounce. If you like, I can send you a film or two.
Doh! I mentioned the four letter BBS F-word - FILM. I do apologise, dear Moderator, and will fly 100 LA7 sorties as penance. ;)

Was Galland fat as Goering?:D
-
G-2... it looks nicer ;)
If I need firepower I take G-10.
Galland panzer (armour) = glass head armour behind pilots head
Erla haube (hood) = "the" hood with thinner frames and more visibility.
Galland armor was also used at first with old hoods.

yep, it looks nicer without that blue swastika.;)

Von Rosen's cross, technically.
The term 'swastika', nowadays tends to specifically describe the Nazi cross.
-
no plane should have baby blue on it.
g6.

You forgot the FM-2, F4F-4, F6F-5, Zeros, Nikis, Hurricanes, C.202 and probably the C.205 too. I don't believe the G-6 can hang with either Yak for that matter, and it's doubtful it has any edge on either Lavochkin. I should mention the P-51B too, as I've had a few 1v1s with G6s flown by good sticks, and the Mustang was more than a match for it. If you fight against a P-51B like it was a P-51D, you will be in for a shock. It's significantly more agile than the D model. I can't say why that is, because it weighs only 300 pounds less than the P-51D. However, the margin in terms of overall maneuverability is greater than the weight difference would seem to indicate.
As for me, I prefer the 109G-2 over the G-6, even if the G-2 has gondolas. A good stick in a G-2 can slug it out with anything and have a better than fair chance of winning. The G-6, I'm afraid, isn't as confidence inspiring as the G-2. Better guns, yes. But, those guns don't shoot backwards.
My regards,
Widewing

Kwaessa, IMO, it is still a swastika.
"Von Rosen cross" is a term that has been born only lately, withing few years" on the BBS discussions. In finnish the same word "hakaristi" is used for all hooked cross symbols... (ger. hakenkreuz, eng. swastika.. a hooked cross) The nazi version is simply called a nazi swastika :)
Naturally the first impression of swastika is nazis, but it is not the symbols fault :) Before nazis it was used in Jew altars, by Edmonton women's ice hockey team, in Coca Cola bottles, etc etc.
I dont think every 5 pointed star is evil even though a particular red one was not so pleasant during last century ;)

109F4 or 109G10. Everything else is in the spectrum between these two planes.
I use the gondolas on both planes. The 109F4 actually turns ok even with the gondolas, and they make it possible to land multiple kills per sortie (assuming you don't get shot in the back while rtb'ing, which has happened to me the last half-dozen times I've flown the 109F).
For the G10, I use the 30mm and gondolas. I call it my "gorilla package". The 30mm is very useful for high-speed bomber intercepts as well as popping armour (just watch out for compression when you're close to the ground).
For the F4, I use gondolas with tracers turned on so that I can use the light MGs to get the target to turn and slow down. Then I can bring the 20mms to bear. The gondolas make a nice addition to firepower and lets me extend the life of my guns by requiring a shorter firing window. If I consider flying a 109F without gondolas, then I usually just grab a Yak9U instead.

G6 all the way baby!
-
I woke up this morning all excited to get in a quick 109F4 flight before leaving for work, but the Bish had porked all the front line bases to 25% fuel and there weren't enough Knights logged on to make it worth the effort. :(
So I took an M3 to a Bish VH base and captured it. :D
