Hi ya,

Last year I made the tank for my son, this year, it's something a little different:

I'm curious to hear what y'all think.

That's pretty damn cool.  Can't wait for finished pics, or (even better), a vid of it in operation.

ed: you deleted the talking to yourself post :)

I'm not crazy, I started working on the legs today!

Oh wait...  I guess that doesn't invalidate the crazy claim.  It might, in fact, bolster it....

Well since SOB is not doing his job:

NERD!!!!!!!

J/K, that is a cool costume and a cool project.  Just one question.  What are you going to do with after?  May i suggest wearing it on "casual Fridays" at the office.  Or maybe convert it to a bird bath for the backyard.

If you haven't discovered this yet, you might look at artist's foam board, which is used by architects and the like for building mock-ups of buildings.  Its a layer foam sandwiched between two pieces of cardboard.  This makes for lightweight "skin" for the missile launcher boxes, and you can cut it into the circles for mounting the PVC launch tubes.

As for supporting the weight of your son, I would suggest you solve this problem first before getting too much farther along in your design phase.  If you can't solve that problem, then the rest of it won't matter.

no way dude, a mech would be able to move faster than a tank and has acces to rougher terrain

Thanks for the foamboard suggestions, I'll try it out.  I have a few big pieces of foamboard left from my stargate project (I used it to mock up my dialing Stargate), I'll give it a go.  My only worry about foamboard is that when I go to paint it, what if the Krylon melts the foam?

I'll check it out.

Use acrylic (water-based paint) instead of the oil-based enamel.  Not sure about adhesion, but it should solve any problems with the foam dissolving.

Or you could put a coat of resin (as in fibreglass resin, but without the fiberglass) as a protective coat before painting.
