Capt. Clarence Kay "Pete" West
1918-2003
82nd/101st/11th ABN 1941-1945
Gonna miss my grandad.

If it weren't for you gramps, all of Europe would be a giant human slaughterhouse.
-
He was one of the first paratroopers, in the 502nd Parachute Battalion in 1941. He served in the 101st and then the 82nd. Before D-Day he was badly injured in a practice jump in England and spent most of 1944 and 1945 training paratroopers stateside while he recuperated. He was cleared again for combat duty around VE day and joined the 11th to prepare for the invasion of Japan. Lucky for our family they dropped the bombs and he didn't have to make a combat jump into Japan. The 11th was a big part of the occupation force in Japan and he served there until 1946. He was transferred to reserves after that and was discharged sometime after the Korean War.

GERONIMO!
If you send him a thought in the near future, tell him to contact me via dreams and let me know if American warriors go to Valhalla in the afterlife or if they just go there for weekend visits. Toad (Amphibious, USASF, Bad-Assed Toad - who by the way was 82nd AB early in his career) would love to know as well.

Funk. Sorry for your loss bud.

very sorry to hear that funked. I know how u feel, i lost my grandfather on 5th july 2003 and it has pretty much devastated the whole family.
He served aboard the HMS Tay and saw a lot of action in the battle of the atlantic, including the 2 biggest battles, also taking convoys up to russia and served in the pacific theatre.
Among his many funny stories he used to tell us, were drinking the Royal navy rum supplies, pissing in the empty bottles then selling it on to the americans ;) :D

Captain Clarence Kay West. Thank you for fighting for my Country.
And condolences to you and yours Funked.

Sorry to hear about your granddad, funked. It probably won't be long before I lose my grandfather, who was born in 1917, and served as a waist gunner on a B-17 in '44-45.
Sure hope everyone realizes the sacrifices that generation made for all of us.
-
My condolences. When his country called he was there and did what was asked.

And if you ever see any scum degrading what you and your like did for us, Just ask the "boss" to send a lightening bolt up their 6
