Talk about sanctions that punish the innocent...
"Finland, which is the sole manufacturer of the computerized gas detection kits, will not sell the kits to Israel, claiming the EU forbids the export of "dual use equipment" to countries involved in conflict."
Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe we should thank Finland for single handedly thwarting the planned Israeli chemical warfare attacks against the Palestinian terrorists - you know - the ones who live amongst Israeli citizens.

Even if I didn't think they were up to the task, I'd never say so in public. :)

Aren't you the EU?
That's like Texas saying "Hey, it's not my fault, blame the United States".

The EU not Finland (must be really hard to understand) is responsible for these laws.

About as hard to understand as why the EU didn't self-police itself when members of the EU were breaking their own rules in dealings with Iraq.
But *please don't misunderstand me*. My post isn't about the Finns - only about their leaders/government. :)

I think I understand just fine. Apparently you should do a little reading.
The European Union (EU) is a family of democratic European countries, committed to working together for peace and prosperity. It is not a State intended to replace existing states, but it is more than any other international organisation. The EU is, in fact, unique. Its Member States have set up common institutions to which they delegate some of their sovereignty so that decisions on specific matters of joint interest can be made democratically at European level.

There were no modern French weapons in Iraq, No Never!!!! May their stomachs croast in hell on the gates of French arms factories as Jacques Chirac hits them with shoes!!!!

I hate to disappoint but expect no apology from me. Sarcasm from you is like the 'little boy who cried wolf'. When you are responsible for numerous posts that are so over-the-top that rational people would assume they are intended to be sarcastic and then learn that they aren't, there's no way I'm going to assume sarcasm from then on.
You Finns...you'll use any words you can to rationalize not selling defensive NBC warfare gear intended to protect innocent noncombatants who are definitely at risk so you don't have to admit your subconscious bias in favor of Palestinian terrorism.
It kind of helps to piece the puzzle together over your view on Iraq however.
Wait - that was maybe inappropriate - I 'went X-Files' and speculated on the motives of a government without the benefit of facts or research. Oh well - pretty much the standard for the O'Club since 12SEP01. The only thing different is the government that is being discussed.

Wulfie what you just wrote and especially the analogy is somewhat, oh what the hell, waaaaaay waaaay like up there in space, over his head... Just saying it before he responds. :)

Boo! Now go hide you French type person... :)

Im so glad that Norway is not part of the EU :)

To become a member nation of the EU it is required that your populace submit to a mass lobotomy, the result of which is seen here:
"Maurice Gourdault-Montagne, an advisor to French president Jacques Chirac(and obviously an amoral, spineless fool not to mention a pinhead), offered up this bit of Frenchery about the Bush push for the European Union to outlaw Islamic Jihad and Hamas, two terror groups behind last week's bus bombing in Jerusalem: "If we find that Hamas and Islamic Jihad are indeed terror groups opposed to peace, we may have to change the EU's stand. However, we must not limit ourselves to one, clear-cut, position."
Which often leads to aforementioned Lobotomized EU nations giving support to "political" organizations such as this:
"It is no longer a secret that the Zionists were behind the Nazi's murder of many Jews, and agreed to it, with the aim of intimidating (the Jews) and forcing them to immigrate to Palestine." "Every time they failed to persuade a group of Jews to immigrate to Palestine, they unhesitatingly sentenced them to death." "When we compare the Zionists to the Nazis," he concludes, "we insult the Nazis." -
Dr. Abd Al-Aziz Al-Rantisi - "political" leader of Hamas
Ahh, Europe. The world's fountain of "sophistication", "moral clarity", and "intellectualism"........

WOW What happened, is Finland allied with the Nazis again?
-
How does unwillingness to sell these kits translate into "Finland doesn't care if isreali children die"? It seems that the Finns are unwilling to sell equipment to Isreal that could have military uses (which seems fair enough to me given the current situation in Isreal and Palestine). While the inclusion of gas detection kits might be a bit over the top that doesn't mean the Finns are callous, heartless beasts. Afterall the country most likely to be involved in any such attack has undergone "regime change". I'm impressed with the propaganda value of the thread title, wulfie you should be in PR.

Disgusting

Finland must be the only memberstate which takes EU directives by the book. There is only 2 exceptions to this, vehicle and alcohol taxation.
Anyway if a finnish company tries to sell anything even remotely military to Israel, then the PC crowd will have a field day. And the PC folks are the ones that run this country...It's much worse than in the States here...

I don't see anyone selling super-duper bullet proof vests to palestinian civillians that have nothing to do with the terrorists either.
I condemn any terrorist attacks no matter if they are done by palestinian terrorists or Israel's army.
I'm glad that Finland takes no sides on wars like these.
What comes to your country's politics concerning Iraq...
Well, because of it there are right now tens or hundreds little new Osama Bin Ladens growing up in Iraq. Have fun living in the shadow of terror. With the way your country is handling it right now...it will never end.

Yep, Funked has this habit of calling people nazis if they don't agree with him. Just search the "aircraft and vehicles-forum".

With all due respect Wmaker the only reason Finland is able not to take sides in such conflics is frankly because on a world stage Finland is utterly irrelevant, just like my little old country of Croatia. The USA and honestly the EU as a body must not be neutral..
So with that fact in mind do tell me what you think the USA should have done concering Terror and the Mid East after 911?
-
hmm kinda like U.S doesn't care if Palestinian childrens, elders & all will be killed by U.S made helicopters, fighters and APCs ?
IMHO E.U should stop all trading with Israel; There's no reason to help 'em to buy weapons with money the get from selling their goods.
Same goes with every nation which is hostile against its neighbours.
-
Hmm.... If Finland is utterly irrelevant, why even bother to comment then?....It should be utterly irrelvant what they do shouldnt it? :D
In our so called modern world where we trade and travel etc across borders no country is irrelevant. If it was irrelevant then iraq, kuwait and all other conflicts that involve small "irrelevant" countries would just be forgotten and nobody would bother to do anything.... But hey ! in all of those conflicts it seems that someone interfers in some way or another.

Trust me Finland is not important, most are not important, sure as a trading state they are like all others with goods to sell but in the real hard core ploitical/military/historic sense most countries are irrelevant unless the important ones make a fuss about them in some way...

True. Israel has no right to defend itself from suicide bombers now, other terror attacks or countless arab armies for the past 55 years or so. Man if those darned Jews werent so damn evil maybe Hamas would see some hope for peace and be able to to stop its brave resistance against the mongol hordes of Israeli schoolchildren and grandmothers on city busses...

That's the general opinion in Europe too.

No the rules are that a thread cannot be closed until Grunz mentions the words "Nazi" and "America" in the same sentence.
Carry on Poindexter...

I think that Wulf and Funked need to check and make sure they aren't over-limit. The fines can be pretty hefty.

Education is most often a great liberator. Sometimes though, it instills an arrogance that only breeds the ignorance it would alleviate.

W000T !
Raison de plus de venir (au moins pour moi :))

Yeah were so irrelevant country, that nobody cares if we dont sell some rubbish NBC suits to Israelis. :D
Personally i think protective equipment should be legally sold to all who are interested in buying. Whether its a friend or foe. You have to understand, that EU is still big into sosialistic governing and the guys who are currently in charge (meaning the media and top EU leaders) are Palestinian lovers. You could pretty much simulate EU if you'd put Hilary Clinton in charge with unlimited powers. This aint going to change in long long long time, too many people depend on government money.
Nothing i can do about it, you should just see the news we get from our local (50% government) newschannels about Palestinian/Israeli crisis. Israelis are presented always as blowing up innocent peoples houses and Palestinians are retaliating with sticks and stones against tanks. I think they use that same newsclip with tank on the hill and kids throwing stones on it every time. It has something to do with Reuters, which dominates our newscasts.

Sorry, but this is not a discussion, it is a lambasting. I hope that most would know the difference.
