To make a movie based upon a comic book or video game, what brilliance! :)

Of the two movies, I like Alien best, though I have both of them recorded on the same tape.

Yeah, but the sequel to "Alien" is even better.

I never played the video game nor read the comic book or gave it much attention.  Seemed more like an excuse to shoot stuff and blow things up, with gore and flash for "sizzle".

Not sure I like the storyline.  Seems too much like a rip-off of John Carpenter's "The Thing".  I think it would've played better if they'd made "Predator" race as the protagonist, who is transporting the "Aliens" on a cargo ship, sort of a lead-in to the first "Alien" film, where the human astronauts find the wrecked ship on the planet.

I'm thinking I might save my money and watch "Catwoman" instead.

No it isn't. The last movie for each theme did dismally at the box office.  Alien Ressurection was especially thick-witted and insipid.  Combining them will create one of the greatest bombs of collosal proportion since Waterworld or The Postman.

Predator 2 tanked?  I was too young to see it when it came out so I don't know how it did in theaters, but I always enjoy watching the Predator movies on TV.  I'll watch Aliens vs Predator when it's on TV, too.

Game?

Comic?

edit - I need to read what I post sometimes. :)

Really?

The comic books and video games with the same concept pluralize the first word in the title so it's 'Aliens Vs. Predator,' but this movie will keep it singular

This franchise blending kinda pisses me off. Too much like "Dracula meets the Wolfman." which makes it harder to suspend disbelief (at least with the game series), especially since I'm a huge fan of the Alien series and a lukewarm fan of the Predator series. I imagine the movie will be the same.

Well, I don't know about the movie, nor do I ultimately care at this point.

I will say that the first Aliens vs. Predator game (and the second, though not as much) was the first game to literally make me jump out of my chair and cuss out loud at the screen.  What did this?  Simple, the facehugger.  whoopee those little ****ers are scary.

Also, the atmosphere when playing as the marine is very similar to the feel in the movie Aliens.  Pretty creepy, even more so with that damn motion tracker going off all the time.

and no, I don't think that b/c a game/comic/tv show is good means that a movie is going to be good, just letting you know that the game was more than just quake with aliens and predators.

Preds won in the comic. Hopefully they'll stick fairly close to that story line. If they do, it should be a decent story. If they "Hollywoodify" it like so many other movies lately *cough Daredevil cough* then it'll just suck as usual.

There are too many inconsistancies in the movie.  One in particular:

Costner meets up with the kids who, by taking him as an example, become postal carriers and leads them in their duties.  They all take off for their pickup/dropoff points and costner's character rides by a house, where a kid of about 10 or so comes out to give his letter, and passes halfway, turns, looks undecidedly, undecidely some more, takes a step, looks undecidedly again, then rides back to grab the letter to the cheering of the orchastra(it had to have been the orchastra cheering cause it wasn't me).  Personally I thought the point of his decision to do a full duty was decided when he took on the postal kids.

Movies generally don't present degrees of acceptance of duty/loss because it's difficult to portray, as we can see in The Postman.  It's either a go or a no go.

You’re right, but it still didn’t stop me from liking it.  I have a rather large ability to engage in the “willful suspension of disbelief” if I like what I’m reading/watching.  Let me put it this way – I watch, and enjoy, Dr. Who.

Obviously, I don’t nitpick.  If someone turned "The Fountainhead" or "Atlas Shrugged" into a movie, I would be a lot more demanding I suppose.

The Postman was a “feel good” movie and I left the theatre feeling good.  Sometimes that's all I want from my six bucks.

Well, I either like it or I don't. If I don't, I pick it apart to find out why.  Sometimes it's equally effective to analyze why something doesn't work, as well as why is does.

Oh I could also go a long way to say I don't watch much television anymore, because it's all crap. I read, I write, and I surf a little.

I have to disagree Mac. I think Costner's character was reluctant to take up and keep responsibilty for the kids throughout the movie. That was sorta the theme, a reluctant leader and hero.

Anyhow, I liked it and have watched it twice.

Dr. Who is good stuff. Though I'm not familiar with all the different actors who played the Doctor on the BBC series, I did like the one with the dark brown, curly hair. What ever his name is.  Did you happen to see any of the movies starring Peter Cushing as the Doctor?

I am completely unfamilair with those titles. I am even farther behind in my books than I am in my movies.  My Into to English Studies class is utilizing three books I've never read before, but am quite familiar with: Catcher in the Rye(most of you may have read this, I never did, until now), Uncle Ben's Cabin and The Sound and the Fury.  Should be a good four months of reading.

Fortunately I waited until it was on HBO. I liked it, but I don't think it was all you guys say.  And there simply is no denying it was another nail in the coffin of costner's carreer because just didn't make the profit it should have.

THAT'S HIM!!! In fact, that is the show's title scene when he played the Doctor.

I know only of three.  Tom Baker being one of them. His characterization was the best of all of them, but this is a very subjective opinion.

I abso sweet lutely do NOT believe this!  I've gone through years of living in the closet, watching my Dr Who in secret and shame only to find out I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE.

I would have bet real US folding cash that no one here had even heard of the good Doctor, let alone watched it . . .

Tom Baker made an excellent Doctor, but I started with Jon Pertwee and he's still my favorite

I've known about Dr. Who since before 1982. Shortly after graduation I began hanging around with a few people who were very big on Dr. Who. I myself had seen the Cushing movie before that.  The Pertwee actor is another familiar face, and one other that came after Tom Baker.  A young man with blond hair. I believe he wore a coat with a question mark on it.

Regardless, I liked it, but not enough to follow seriously.  Though I did like K-9, Sarah, and I believe her name was Teela. Sarah  complimented Baker especially well.

Do they still make the show? What has become of the actors?

I wanna see Robocop Vs Terminator. I loved the comic/ and video games in the early 90's. That's how I spent many of my 2 dollar allowances back in the day (I speak as an old man yet I know most have underwear older than me  :D )

How about Todd McFarlane vs Frank Miller.

I think just about everyone in the UK grew up watching Doctor Who and I began watching it in around 1976/77.  I've seen many episodes since but the Doctors I like are Tom Baker, Jon Pertwee and Peter Davison, in that order.

The first Doctor, played by William Hartnell (1963-1966)

The second Doctor, played by Patrick Troughton (1966-1969)

The third Doctor, played by Jon Pertwee (1970-1974)

The fourth Doctor, played by Tom Baker (1974-1981)

The fifth Doctor, played by Peter Davison (1982-1984)

The sixth Doctor, played by Colin Baker (1984-1986)

The seventh Doctor, played by Sylvester McCoy (1987-1989)

The eighth Doctor, played by Paul McGann (1996)

Also, Doctor Who films spin off - Dr Who and the Daleks, and Daleks Invasion Earth 2150AD, played by Peter Cushing
