Well, Winston Churchill I am not. More like General Custer at the battle of Little Big Horn. Circle the wagons Haus cause its gonna get ugly!
It appears that the Allies had too many Bostons and too few fighters. The ones we had did a great job though. I was not sure of the participation #'s of the two new squads, so I put them in Bostons, which in hind sight, I should have placed them in fighters. Also, the speed of the Bostons was fast enough to leave our escorts, but not fast enough to escape the LW. The idea was to get the LW over the channel, and use our largest combined force of SpitV's to move south between A12 and A10 and mow down anything in the area. Then the Bostons which took a longer approach would be free to hit A9 and A8 from the north with a full escort to cover. However, it seems that the LW didn't move over the channel, the Bostons were too early, and when the escorts engaged the intercepting 190's, the Bostons just left the escorts behind. It appears also that even though we combined our two largest squads, they didn't have a numerical advantage over the swarm of LW planes, so it came down to an attrition game that we lost because we had bombers that we could not protect. I hope everyone had fun regardless, and we live (or die in this case) and learn.
to all the LW squads. Don't get too comfortable in those French country houses though, we will be sending you eviction notices in the next frame.

Well when I got my orders from command I smiled. I knew this was gonna be easy and the axis was gonna come out on top. With only 2 targets to protect I massed my fighters in a rotating screen aporx 15 miles from each base. We were only about halfway across our first waypoint when the first contacts were called out. I think my own group was the first to engage. A group of about 8 spits passed under my group of aprox 10 109s. We turned in and the spit put their noses down. I let my group follow them for a min but I could see a massive swarm of hurri closing in from above and told my group to get back on top. From there one of the biggest furballs I have ever seen any any event took place. I was calling in support groups and range channel was a constant babble of check 6 break right coming to help hes down etc etc. Wish I had rolled film darn it.
It was not long before I was out of ammo and rtbing for rearm. Thats when the first calls of a20s high and low came in. Support groups of 190 were called up. While I was sitting on the rearm pad a group of noe bostons and spits came in I was lucky to get airborn. By then support had arrived and it was a slaughter. Looking out the top of my canopy I could see groups of support 190's tearing the bostons up. Only a couple ack's and a BH went down at a9. Bostons were spiraling down everywhere. Then NOE spits put up a tremendious fight around a9 one taking my tail off on a HO shot. I knew I should have rolled instead of meeting the HO I know dumb but what the heck.
The NOE raid supprised me we got lucky in spotting it otherwise the low a20's might have gotten to the field unopposed exept for me on the rearm pad. Whew sometimes you get lucky. A group of a20's made it to a8 but they were not able to make any kind of attack. The squads I assigned to a8 took them down pretty quickly from what I could see from the tower.
Had the timing been a little better that NOE raid would have been devastating. But they arrived at the same time the high raid did so the NOE suprise was negated as cap came in with the high group. Had the NOE part arrived a couple mins before the high group they would have caught us with our pants down and with the axis CO sitting on the rearm pad.
All in all a fun frame tremendious fight over the channel allies =S=. I am sure we wont be so lucky next week.

I never fired my guns!! But Ghosth and I kept about 8-10 109s and 190 busy for about 5 minutes. We were initially tangling with about 4-6. I mean Ghosth and I can handle 4-6 109s and 190s with our Spit Vs, but then more came in from the coast. Our strategy for shooting down the the half dozen enemies went out the window.
Even though I did not fire my guns, I had a great time! I always have a great time flying in these things.
Salute to the LW for you did a great job.
Some sharpshooter picked me off with a great shot! I heard 1 ping and I was in the tower. I can only think it was an instant pilot kill. Nice shooting whoever that was.

Ooops :o OK..... I'm definitely brain-dead. Knew this job would get to me some day.....
I think Sling has been very busy lately and probably forgot to run them.... I'll see to it in a few minutes. Apologies for the delay. ;)
-
Right, they're up.... :)
-
Thanks Flossy....I went right to bed after last night's frame and then was up at 7 for work this morning.
-
NP Sling, I know how busy you are with work. :)

tracerx those were excellent orders. You put a "lot" more time into then than I ever have.
Mongrels only had about 3 land. We were overwhelmed by 109's and 190's. I personally never fired a shot. Was jumped by a 190 that I never saw. I know my squadies were very busy over A9 and then west of A9 for about 10 minutes giving about as good as they got. :)
-
Wow just saw the logs. We did much worse than I thought.
Also the numbers were surprising. Only 93 Allied and 115 Axis. It is usually the other way around even after the Admin CM gives the Axis an extra 10 pilots or so. :)

Thanks for the nice comments Daddog, I need something to boost my spirits. Before the event, I felt that the plans were pretty solid, but now in hind sight, I can't help wishing we had another squad of Spit V's or Hurrricanes. I feel bad for the bomber groups that got massacared, and the fighters that were way outnumbered.
to the Luftwaffe who found us, and were in position to prevent the raid. It is comforting to know that the Allied participation numbers were down, I know it wasn't the skill of our pilots which was to blame for the heavy casualties we suffered.
-
No tracerx you just got a bad deal was all. Like my AAR said I had to smile when I read the orders. With only 2 targets to defend it was going to be a massacare no matter what you did. I beleave your only hope would have been to run us out of fuel before the bostons got to target. When I am tasked with bomber attacks I normally make them go a long way coming in towards the end of frame when fighters numbers have been reduced and they are getting low on fuel. It was a simple matter for me just mass my fighters 15 or 20 miles out and wait for the allies to come into my web.

Actually the group I was engaged with wasn't outnumbered, in fact for a large part of the engagement it was me and snafu vs about 15+ spits. But they were all on the deck (I think they followed some 109s down), and the results of high 190s over low Spits was not pleasant.
I believe several 190 squads never saw much action at all.

"it was going to be a massacare no matter what you did."
Truer words were never spoken. I hope we at least get cigs and blindfolds for frame 2.

LOL Squire. I knew I forgot to pass out something.

Vulcan those spits low over the water were the Nightmares. It was something else.
Basically the Shills, under Sikboy, vectored toward A10 while the Nightmares (23 of us) vectored toward the port just to the west of them. Sikboy called out they were engaged and we turned to the east and ran into a large force of 109s at 26K and lower tangling with the Shills.
It was one of the most intense furballs I have been in for a while. We shot down 13 109s without a loss. But according to the battle plan were suppose to try to sucker the LW to the west and pull you guys down. It worked but we now know that icemaw kept feeding more squads into the fray. We kept having 190s and a few 109s show up with alt on us and BnZ us.
We also ran low and ammo and fuel and kept trying to break north back to england as you guys kept coming in with alt on us. We lost 16 trying to fight our way back to England on low alt while only bagging another 3 LW. 190s are a b@tch with alt is all I have to say.
Nice job and next time we will try to be a bigger nuisance to draw more of you guys quicker from where we don't want you. :)
