Title: I buy flight jackets
Post by: 2stony on September 07, 2003, 12:55:33 PM
If you know of or have a flight jacket for sale, I collect them. When I say flight jackets, I mean original ones. Not repros, only military issue. Please contact me if you have one or know of one.

Thank you
:)

Jacket, Flyer's: Lightweight
[expandable wrists and waist]

Large Regular
Chest: 41 to 45 Inches
Height: 67 to 71 Inches
Stock No. 8415 00-217-7229
NATO Size: 7080/0414

Issued by USA CIF at Schofield Barracks in 1987.

Nothing fancy, no patches or insignia, and with a minor tear on back.

I haven't worn it in years.

Army CIF charged me $73.80 when it was "missing" during a turn-in inventory.

Is this the Olive Drab light flight jacket worn by helicopter pilot's or is it the CWU 36/P nomex flight jacket?

Thanks

The helo jacket.  I'm under the impression that it is NOMEX, but all it says is that it is flame resistant.

The Nomex jacket is a thicker, slightly coarser material and the Army flight jacket is much softer. Hope this helps.

My great uncle was a pilot or flight crew in ww2.  When my grandfather died, I was cleaning up his stuff and I found a box with my great uncles name on it.  There was mostly junk in there, but there was a leather jacket, I guess it was a flight jacket, with some weird crap on the back, and a pair of leather mittens with a thumb AND finger, and were fur lined.  I kept it, but don't know if it's worth anything.

I doubt I'd sell it anyway, it's neat.  None of my family knows much about him, since he died young.  Not in combat, though, after the war.

Martlet,
I sent you an email via your website that you had listed in your profile. I am interested in the flight jacket if you want to sell it. If not, I can at least tell you what it's worth. As for the gloves, they are gunner's gloves, hence the "trigger" finger.
